The car industry is racing to replace

How Chinese is your car? Automakers are racing to work it out. Modern cars are packed with internet-connected widgets, many of them containing Chinese technology. Now, the car industry is scrambling to root out that tech ahead of a looming deadline, a test case for America’s ability to decouple from Chinese supply chains. New U.S. rules will soon ban Chinese software in vehicle systems that connect to the cloud, part of an effort to prevent cameras, microphones and GPS tracking in cars from being exploited by foreign adversaries. The move is “one of the most consequential and complex auto regulations in decades,”

Comments:

The Chinese owned BYD Corp made a deal to supply electric cars to Canada. They also manufacture and sell buses to US transportation districts, agencies, and business districts. Any outstanding US bus contracts and deliveries should be cancelled immediately. Perhaps Canada will pick up cancelled US sales to help out their newest best friend, China.

Forget tariffs on Chinese goods imported into the US. Strictly ban all Chinese imports, plus any imports that have any Chinese components as well as everything that passes through a 3rd country on its way to the US. China might talk sweet, but it is at war with the US in fact. Also, all Chinese nationals in the US must leave, immediately, especially those working anywhere in any R&D departments, whether civilian, government, or military.

After debugging and cleaning up cars, the focus should go to Smart TVs, phones, your refrigerator, surveillance camera systems, Alexa and Siri and the operating system in your computer. It's not AI that's bringing you all of those targeted ads, it's direct connections.

The Brandeis Center lawsuit against the organizations that conspired to engineer the pro-Hamas UCLA encampments that terrorized Jewish students scored a big victory recently when a federal judge allowed claims against two of the groups to proceed. United States District Court Judge Mark Scarsi that “Plaintiffs have pleaded sufficient facts to raise an inference that [National Students for Justice in Palestine] and [People’s City Council] acted with the requisite discriminatory animus” to establish plausible claims of discrimination and conspiracy. “Plaintiffs have plausibly alleged that NSJP and PCC acted at least in part to deprive Plaintiffs of their Thirteenth Amendment rights to be free from race-based violence and exclusion. “

San Francisco could be in hot water over a plan to pay reparations to black residents. Two San Francisco taxpayers, activist Richie Greenberg and resident Arthur Ritchie, have sued the city over the controversial plan to hand out benefits to “individuals who are black and/or descendants of a chattel enslaved person and have experienced a proven harm in San Francisco,” according to a bill quietly signed by Mayor Daniel Lurie in December. The plaintiffs, including the Californians for Equal Rights Foundation, slammed the reparations plan as a “sordid and unconstitutional enterprise” amounting to a “racial spoils system” in a fiery complaint filed Thursday in San Francisco Superior Court.

The FBI and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department provided an update on the investigation into an alleged illegal biological lab found in a northeast Las Vegas home on Saturday. During a press conference on Monday, Metro confirmed the house was owned by the same individual, Jia Bei Zhu, connected to a prior investigation of the alleged illegal biological lab in Reedley, California, in 2023. The second suspect arrested is 55-year-old Ori Solomon, the property manager of the house. More than 1,000 samples were collected. On Monday morning, all samples were loaded onto an FBI aircraft and transported to the National Bioforensic Analysis Center in Maryland for testing.

Employees of a man arrested in connection with what authorities say was an illegal biological laboratory became “deathly ill” after entering a garage containing beakers with “reddish liquid” at a property linked to the investigation, according to an arrest report. Ori Solomon, 55, appeared in federal court in Las Vegas on Tuesday. He has been charged with a count of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Authorities have identified him as the property manager for an east Las Vegas Valley house that law enforcement entities have investigated since the weekend and that is connected to Chinese citizens facing their own federal case in California.

A pro-ICE billboard appeared in a heavily trafficked part of San Francisco this week ahead of the Super Bowl, prompting an outcry from immigrant rights advocates in the city. The digital billboard, at Mason and Jefferson streets near Fisherman’s Wharf, displayed images of what appeared to be Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and messages that say “Cheering because the home team finally started investing in defense,” “Defensive player of the year: ICE,” and “They can’t win without defense. Neither can America.” American Sovereignty, a conservative group, said that it had placed the sign.

The United States is pushing Bolivia to kick suspected Iranian spies out of the South American country and designate Tehran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as a terrorist group, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the matter. Washington also wants the government in La Paz to designate Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah and Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas - both of which the United States considers to be proxies of Tehran - as terrorist organizations, said the sources. The private diplomatic push comes amid a broader US effort to deepen its geopolitical influence in Latin America and diminish that of its adversaries in the region.

Mexico sent 37 people accused of being criminal operatives to the United States on Tuesday, the latest apparent bid to alleviate pressure from President Trump to do more to combat the powerful groups smuggling drugs across the border. It was the first such transfer this year, when Mr. Trump’s threats of military action against Mexico have grown more direct, but the third since he took office. Mexican authorities have now sent nearly 100 people accused of being key criminals to the United States. The transfers are part of a larger effort by Mexican authorities to appease Mr. Trump as he threatens unilateral strikes inside Mexican territory

A long-running effort to help disadvantaged students of color in Los Angeles schools is under legal challenge by a group that claims the nation’s second-largest school system is discriminating against white students. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in federal court, targets efforts to bring resources to underserved schools going back decades and rooted in battles over forced and voluntary integration. Filed in the Central District of California by the 1776 Project Foundation, the suit alleges that L.A. A radical left-wing group in Los Angeles has published a shocking 40-page roadmap to transform the nation’s second-largest city into a bizarre socialist experiment. The Democratic Socialists of America’s LA chapter wants to straight-up seize private property through a “creative use of eminent domain,” take control of your neighborhood grocery store, and replace cops with unarmed social workers while shutting down jails. Their Communist fever dream wishlist includes banning Airbnbs, grabbing golf courses for public housing, allowing non-citizen immigrants to vote in local elections, enforce a school curriculum that supports social justice and eliminating all fossil fuel use by 2035. The attention of those less politically minded is focused on the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy -- always fodder for the would-be Colombos and Miss Marples -- and the Olympics. Yet this week saw some victories for the administration along with some serious unfinished business. The ousted dictator Nicolás Maduro seems isolated, depressed, and devoid of funds sufficient to hire teams of lawyers to defend him. Any claims he might have for immunity seem destined to fail. The evidence establishes he was born in Colombia; his claim falls because only a native Venezuelan is entitled to hold the office of president.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The Seattle Seahawks used a dominant defense and the strong running of game MVP Kenneth Walker III on Sunday to crush the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX. It was the Seahawks’ second Super Bowl title in four appearances. It came 12 years after Seattle defeated Denver 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII -- a fitting nod to the 12th man that has fueled the energy at Seahawks’ home games. The game, before 70,823 fans at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, showcased a punishing, opportunistic defense by the Seahawks that rendered Patriots quarterback Drake Maye mostly ineffective all night.

Democrats push hard for every possible advantage in elections, but courts sometimes draw a line. U.S. District Judge William L. Osteen Jr. delivered a ruling that defined those lines by rejecting a Democratic demand for early voting sites on three North Carolina university campuses. His ruling carried an unmistakable tone of impatience toward a case that tried to dress political convenience as constitutional necessity. The College Democrats of North Carolina argued that without on-campus sites, students would need to travel off campus to vote, imposing time and transportation burdens on young voters. That's the premise Judge Osteen rejected, making clear that elections aren't built to require perfect comfort;

The uproar over the Trump video tells you more about the left’s narrative machine than it does about what actually happened. What they want you to see is “Trump posts racist monkey video about the Obamas.” What they do not want you to see is context, intent, or basic honesty about how the clip ended up on his Truth Social feed in the first place. Let’s get something out of the way: the post should never have been made, and whoever was responsible was careless for not previewing the entire video first. The original post from Trump’s Truth Social account was about voter fraud and election integrity, not about the Obamas.
