Tensions between the United States and Canada have rapidly escalated this week after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered a rousing speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday, declaring a “rupture” in the old world order and calling on “middle powers” to unite. The once jovial public relationship between Carney and President Trump has descended into a barbed back-and-forth, with Trump on Friday disinviting Canada from his Board of Peace, which Ottawa was already hesitant to join.

MaineCare spending records (snip) show that the five MaineCare agencies (snip) have increased their combined annual billing from $901, 126.85 in 2019 to $4,057,917.75 in 2024. The building houses a branch of Dahabshiil, the largest money transfer business in Africa, founded in Somalia and now based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It allows for the easy transfer of funds back into African nations, including Somalia.

President Trump’s remarks at Davos have caused a chorus of howls. Some of that howling is understandable. But some of it is makes as much sense as howling at the moon. WASHINGTON -- Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder from Canada who was among the FBI's top fugitives and faces charges related to multinational drug trafficking and the killing of a federal witness, has been arrested in Mexico, top Justice Department officials said Friday. Wedding, 44, is accused of running a drug trafficking operation, and officials say he orchestrated several killings to further the drug crimes. He was on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, and authorities had offered a $15 million reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction. William Kelly, one of the anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agitators who disrupted a service at Cities Church in Saint Paul, Minn., on Sunday, has been arrested. "A THIRD subject has now been arrested connected to targeting Cities Church in Minneapolis Sunday. William Kelly is now in custody," FBI Director Kash Patel declared in a Thursday post on X. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem noted in a post, "William Kelly is being charged with conspiracy to deprive rights, a federal crime, for his involvement in the St. Paul church riots. What's playing out in Minneapolis (snip) controlled by Democrats is as simple as this: That party willfully ignored our nation's laws to import millions of destitute foreigners for the purpose of loading them up with welfare and earning their political support, and now that they're out of power, they're trying to keep their new constituents here by any means necessary. Some of us are old enough to remember Matthew Lesko, the lanky, fast-talking late-night TV pitchman who promised people free government money to those who bought his books. There are, Lesko said in one of his countless ads decades ago, “15,000 programs you can use to get a better job, get an education, or start your own business. Those who know about the programs are the ones who get the money!” Lesko was right about how easy it is to get taxpayer money. What Lesko didn’t say is that it’s easy to do even when it violates the law — especially if you live in a state run by Democrats.

Iran claimed this week to have successfully tested its first long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), a capability that would enable Tehran to strike the eastern seaboard of the United States, according to regime-controlled outlets. The regime purportedly conducted its missile launch from an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps base in the city of Semnan, firing toward Siberia with the approval of the Russian government. TikTok has finalized a deal to create a new American entity, avoiding the looming threat of a ban in the United States that has been in discussion for years on the platform now used by more than 200 million Americans. The social video platform company signed agreements with major investors including Oracle, Silver Lake and the Emirati investment firm MGX to form the new TikTok U.S. joint venture. The new version will operate under “defined safeguards that protect national security through comprehensive data protections, algorithm security, content moderation and software assurances for U.S. users,” the company said in a statement Thursday.
