An electric school bus burst into flames in Los Angeles on Wednesday morning, prompting a massive emergency response and shutting down a stretch of the 210 Freeway in Sylmar, authorities said. The fire was reported around 9:20 a.m. at 11460 W. Foothill Blvd., directly under the 210 Freeway overpass in the San Fernando Valley, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Sky5 was over the scene as heavy flames and thick black smoke poured from the fully involved bus. No children were on board at the time of the fire, officials said. The driver, whose age and gender have not been released, was transported to a local hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

What genius in LA decided to buy these electric schoolbuses with the deadly Li-ion batteries? I'm afraid there's no cure for stupidity. When these vehicles burn, they don't burn at 1,500 F like an ICE car with a gasoline fire--they burn at about 5,000 F, hot enough to melt reinforcing steel and concrete. Now there are modern structures ten floors high, built on top of four levels of parking. Some of these places won't even allow hybrid vehicles, let alone e-cars, in their parking lots. Too dangerous. The same is true for underground parking garages. The owners just don't want to have to deal with these uncontrollable fires. Finally, overseas shipping companies, having lost entire ships with thousands of new cars onboard, are shying away fromtransporting anything with Li-ion batteries. Too damned dangerous. E-everything has got to go, including "renewable" wind and solar electricity. Total waste. No more windmills, no more solar farms, no more electric transportation. It's all a racket. End it. (Elon Musk, this generation's Benjamin Franklin, can build ICE vehicles. If he does, his will probably be the best.)

#3 is correct. These vehicles will burn underwater, whether in fresh water or seawater! If these li-ion batteries even touch saltwater, they will burst into flames that can't be put out. Fire departments hate hate hate dealing with these things when they burn. In the video below, a car submerged in a tank of fresh water burns for hours and actually boils the water in the tank! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h_E-yi0hcg&t=3s (SUBMERGED ⚡️electric vehicle 🔥 BURNS in water-filled tank! | MGUY Australia)

Side note - why would I care about the driver's age or gender? Are they contributing factors to the cause of the incident? As to the fire, all the environmental benefits alledgedly contributed by this electric vehicle just went up in smoke. Literally.

Addendum to #4: The car submerged in the tank of fresh water boiled for thirteen (13) hours! The fire department had to keep adding water so the car would be completely submerged. The water that was added quickly got to 212 F, creating steam and more water lossage. Another video shows some Tesla owner trying to launch a jet ski in Hollywood, Florida (near Ft. Lauderdale). For some unknown reason, the Tesla lost power while backing down the ramp, the car rolled into the (salt) water, burst into flames, and burned for hours. During Hurricane Helene coastal flooding, there is a video of an e-car in a garage catching fire when seawater reaches its battery. Even though the car was not charging, it burned the house down. Producing one 1,000 pound Li-ion battery that powers one e-car requires a half million pounds of earth to be moved. (The regular ICE Hummer weighs a hefty 6,000 pounds; the e-Hummer weighs 9,000 pounds, including its 3,000 pound Li-ion battery. My whole ICE car ('03 Honda S2000) with me sitting in it with a trunk full of drinking water weighs less than 3,000#.)

Thank you #8 as i thought same thing. Now if there was shady behavior prior to bursting of flames, the details of the individual are important. Unfortunately, in this case, if the individual was a non-white man they wouldn't even point out age, gender or race is lacking.

Re #6. I have been retired from the insurance business for some 15 years and I don't know what the vehicle market is like now but I heard that some companies had started putting a large surcharge on ev policies. You could buy a policy but the insurance would cost you more. Maybe someone here knows the current situation. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy an ev without checking with their agent first. I know ICE vehicles can burn also but at least extinguishing a fire in those can be handled a lot quicker. but as of now, I wouldn't want my child to be riding one to school.

Inextinguishable lithium battery fires are an unavoidable certainty with EVs. Not all EVs that use lithium batteries will burn, but all the fires in EVs are lithium batteries. Lithium batteries are too dangerous, should be banned.

Great idea #18! Use the tires on ICE buses. The brake drums can be used for fire pits. The seats can be used as beds and also put around the fire pits for community gatherings. The engine parts can be sold for scrap or someone can weld pieces together to make wonderful yard decorations. So many possibilities!

One’s first impulse is to say: of course! Everything that Americans like is racist. More specifically, defrocked MSNBC host Joy Reid is alleging that the song “Jingle Bells” is racist: In the video she shared to her 1.3 million Instagram followers, a man in a Christmas sweater and Santa hat stands on the streets of Medford, Massachusetts near a plaque [that] marks the site where James Lord Pierpont is believed to have penned the song in 1850. He takes off his hat disapprovingly and scowls at the plaque, the video caption reading “this is where a racist Confederate soldier wrote ‘Jingle Bells’ to make fun of black people, and has its origins

For Christ and Country: The Martyrdom of Charlie Kirk is the first book to confront the assassination of Charlie Kirk with the moral seriousness the moment demands. But it is also the first book to ask a question so explosive that no major media outlet, no politician, and no academic has dared to touch it. If a U.S. citizen like Anwar al-Awlaki could be killed in a drone strike because his propaganda inspired jihadists…why is there zero accountability for the politicians, journalists, and media figures whose propaganda inspired Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin? That question—bold, morally precise, and unavoidably logical—is the beating heart of Drew Thomas Allen’s book.

Ernest Hemingway famously wrote when describing bankruptcy: It happens “gradually, then suddenly.” The same is true of dictatorships. They project an illusion of permanence—until the moment the façade shatters and decades of repression give way to rapid collapse. Nowhere is this dynamic more evident than in the Islamic Republic of Iran, a theocracy that has ruled for 46 years through corruption, brutality, and systemic mismanagement. In recent weeks, a severe water crisis has pushed Iran into international headlines. President Masoud Pezeshkian himself warned that it is very feasible that water rationing in Tehran may follow.
