Thanksgiving: America’s Forgotten Religious Holiday

Original Article

Thanksgiving is America’s forgotten religious holiday. Not simply a holiday, it was meant to be a true holy day. That it is forgotten as such runs counter to the original Thanksgiving. It also runs counter to logic. And it also runs right into those who seek to imbue it with their own cultural causes. America has many holidays that have nothing to do with “holy days,” from whence the word came. Labor Day is a holiday but not a holy day. Arbor Day is on the calendar but hardly holy — perhaps, unless you are a druid. “Holiday” has become just a secularized term

I've never heard that Thanksgiving was a religious holy day. I'm not convinced.

I thought this was a great article. I grew up knowing before old enough to go to school and was reinforced in school the Thanksgiving was about giving thank to God. It isn't a holy day as in Easter or Christmas, but it is all about thanking God so it is holy in that sense. To those who are not fortunate enough to accept God, it is just another excuse for a day off work.

Lefties have been howling about “decolonizing” and/or eliminating Thanksgiving. If you want to shut them up tell them since it is no longer a holiday they don’t get the day off.

Christians are not the only people capable of being thankful. Thanksgiving is a national holiday and can be celebrated by all Americans regardless of religious beliefs. Leave it alone.

Thanksgiving is my favorite of holidays. It is all about family gathering with no pressure to give the right present. This year we had a 103 year old uncle and a 97 year old aunt at our gathering! Giving thanks to our God is what my family does. Some just thank the people who did the cooking. Thankfulness is something that we need to practice. (as opposed to taking offense over every little thing)

Convicted killer Bryan Kohberger was recently accused of throwing a tantrum over the fruit selection at a maximum-security Idaho prison where he is serving multiple life sentences for the murders of four University of Idaho students in 2022. The 31-year-old, housed at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, has reportedly been "complaining about the type of bananas he’s being served," according to Chris McDonough, a retired homicide detective employed by the Cold Case Foundation. "They’re not the kind that he likes," McDonough told the Daily Mail.

In the contention over the United States’ peace plan for Ukraine, the Europeans are in their accustomed role — carping from the sidelines. Not only can the once-great European powers no longer dictate the fate of far-flung parts of the world, they can’t even dictate the end of a war involving a European country whose fate they deem crucial to their own future. We’re a long way from the British controlling about a quarter of the globe’s territory in the early 20th century; a long way from British and French diplomats, Mark Sykes and François Georges-Picot respectively, drawing the lines in 1916 to divide up the Ottoman Empire;

You have to be careful with a country. Even a nation as vast in size and huge in population as the United States cannot be endlessly experimented upon. You cannot just leave borders open, or allow in large numbers of people with totally different value systems from your own. That is the mistake many European countries have committed in recent years. They have opened their homes up to people from almost every part of the world where there is civil strife, war or just a lower standard of living. The results can be seen everywhere. It is the reason why a country like Sweden

The Trump administration has successfully addressed the “three I’s” that he said were devastating working-class Americans: immigration, interest rates, and inflation, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an exclusive interview with Breitbart Business Digest co-authors Alex Marlow and John Carney released Monday. Bessent pointed to a March 2024 article he wrote for Fox Digital titled “How the Three I’s Are Eviscerating Working Americans” as the framework for understanding the administration’s economic progress.

Democrats are seeking to put limits on private donations to foot the bill for President Donald Trump's new White House ballroom amid what they say are bribery concerns. Trump announced in October that construction had started on the ballroom — leading to the demolition of the White House’s historic East Wing — and would be privately funded at an estimated cost of $300 million. That was up from the $200 million estimate first provided in July when the project was unveiled. But Democrats are concerned the donors — including individuals and other organizations — are footing the bill for the project because they are seeking

The fictitious Hollywood insurrectionist, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, “James Mattoon Scott” (Burt Lancaster), who in the 1964 film Seven Days in May attempted to overthrow the presidency? Or perhaps Jefferson Davis? He ultimately ordered the attack by South Carolina state forces against the federal garrison at Fort Sumter, which ignited the Civil War. Or is the better inspiration the “Stand in the Schoolhouse Door?” Alabama Governor George Wallace likewise vowed to use his state’s law enforcement to nullify a federal law. Yet how odd that the left, which had lectured us so often about a January 6th “insurrection”—a charge that not even the Javert-like

My close friends blame me for everything that Donald Trump does. One year ago I, a lifelong Democrat, wrote in The Free Press that I had just voted for Trump. I realized that my party had turned its back on working-class families like my own—in favor of identity politics, free trade, and open borders. Many people warned me about publishing the essay. They told me the reaction would be brutal, and they were right. Strangers on the internet relentlessly harassed me. Death threats flooded my inboxes. People accused me of being a Russian asset. They also told me that the left would use it against me when

A new investigation found that Minnesota taxpayer dollars were going far beyond the North Star State's borders and ending up in the hands of Al-Shabaab, an al Qaeda-linked terror group. Ryan Thorpe and Christopher F. Rufo of the Manhattan Institute uncovered a web of fraud involving Minnesota’s Medicaid Housing Stabilization Services program, Feeding Our Future and other organizations in a bombshell report. Thorpe and Rufo noted that, in many cases, members of Minnesota's Somali community were perpetrators of fraud. They added that federal counterterrorism sources confirmed that millions of dollars in stolen funds were sent back to Somalia, which is how Al-Shabaab got the cash

If you have a TV or social media, chances are you’ve seen Scott Jennings in his element: when he’s owning the libs. No one does it better. The CNN senior political commentator and Republican strategist has become one of the leading voices for conservatives around the country. He’s often the only Republican at the table, and he deftly takes on his liberal counterparts with rationality and humor. Jennings’ meme-perfect expressions of amused disbelief at what progressives say often speak for themselves. Leading up to Donald Trump’s second term, Jennings was able to break down the president’s appeal to many conservatives for CNN viewers,

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its website with a new stance on the potential link between vaccines and autism. The new wording on the CDC’s site states, "The claim 'vaccines do not cause autism' is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism. "Studies supporting a link have been ignored by health authorities." The agency noted that the statement "vaccines do not cause autism" has been "historically disseminated" by the CDC and other federal health agencies in an effort to prevent vaccine hesitancy.
