Lining Up For Gas In California

California has the trendiest, and most foolish, energy policies in the U.S. The result is a return to the early ’70s, when drivers lined up around the block, hoping and praying the gasoline wouldn’t run out before they got to the pumps.
“California’s oil industry now sits at the precipice of complete collapse,” says Edward Ring, director of water and energy policy at the California Policy Center, “and if that happens, more imports will not prevent lines at the pumps.”
How could California, which has the sixth most proved crude reserves in the country, be looking over the edge of a gasoline crisis?

The hilarious thing about this is that California has legislated itself into a corner. They require unique gasoline blends for "environmental" reasons. As anyone knows, "boutique" service is expensive. It is also difficult to make all the required blends. With the state's attitude toward energy, the gas processors that the state NEEDS are also repellant to them and the gas companies KNOW it. So the companies are shutting down.
The funny thing is, once that happens, California will not be able to get it's special mixes or will pay even more astronomical prices for them, making California even more economically uncompetitive with the rest of the US. I would bet that the state will decide that regular, affordable gas blends may be OK after all. That will probably start as emergency legislation to deal with the self inflicted crisis but after a while the requirements will quietly fade away and the liberals will studiously attempt to ignore the whole embarrassing issue as, yet again, economic reality trumps Leftist posturing.

It's a good thing they can still plug in their Teslas anywhere they please.

FTA: ''How could California, which has the sixth most proved crude reserves in the country, be looking over the edge of a gasoline crisis?''
Why? Because of the most idiotic, left-wing politicians in the country! ''We will regulate you into complete poverty and you will like it! Now shut up, you are stupid and WE know it all!''
BTW, how is that secession coming along in northern Cali?

With the exception of earthquakes, any crisis in California is self inflicted.
water, gas, electricity, fire response....
They want everyone in electric cars so they can control all movement by shutting down electric power.
(same strategy on these smart meters they want to put on your house, by the way)
So making gas scarce is just a part of the liberal plan.

California is a full fledged socialist dictatorship now with the installation of PROP 50. Democrats have driven the final nail in their coffin. California is headed for bad times. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Hey Californians, as with Prop 50 and all of the looney leftwing politicians like Gavin Newsome and Karen Bass just like the old commercial said. You asked for it you got it, Toyota. Also speaking of Toyota. Good luck filling them up along with other vehicles with gas in your state.

I have often thought that car manufacturers should have stopped building cars for California.
Why should the rest of us have to pay more for cars that meet California standards jus so they can be sold in Kalifornia.

Perhaps the Army Corps of Engineers could build a canal running the length of Kalifornia on its eastern border. Then they could treat Kalifornia as a hostile, third world country and deny entry to the rest of the country. Just a random thought.

Frightening thought -- given the length of time Californians have witnessed this destruction of their once-pardisical state, their voters collectively may be stupider than the New Yorkers who voted for Mandami

Pull up the 2024 Wikipedia Presidential election map. Note the blue areas. The blue areas are conveniently separated from the red by a coastal range of mountains. Build your wall there. There are more Republicans in California than the population of most of your states. And as far as voting overwhelmingly Democrat, only the ballots ultimately counted seem to reflect that. In 2024 there were ten Republican house victories on election night that disappeared after Nancy Pelosi's daughter and her fellow travelers "curated" the ballots over the course of weeks. As I recall the Democrats ultimately "won" every contested district. As usual. Get behind Trump's push for proof of citizenship and existence for all ballots cast (and counted).

Carefully planned shortages and high prices, part of the Demonrat program to make internal combustion cars (normal cars) impossible to drive.

I think that #14 is right, but CA is flirting with disaster and more of an outflow of taxpayers then currently happening now. I was in Tucson a few years ago and talked to my Uber driver. He said he had to move his family to Tucson because they couldn't make it in San Diego even with both working.
Keep it up and the "Golden State" will turn to the **** state.

In California, gasoline will soon be like fine champagne or wine; available only for the wealthy. Meanwhile, the government expects everyone to purchase an EV, and they expect PG&E to produce that electricity with wind turbines, solar farms, and unicorn farts.
