Kirk's assassin's gun doesn't have a serial
number. Oh no!

Original Article

On September 14 in The Media, Charlie Kirk and guns, I engaged in a bit of informed speculation about the reported Mauser 98 rifle alleged to have been used in the assassination of Charlie Kirk. I also suggested that if the assassin had never fired the rifle, if it was not properly zeroed for him, it’s likely hitting Kirk in the neck was an indication that he nearly missed. This assumes the killer was aiming for a chest or head shot. Now we know the rifle was a Mauser 98, apparently “sporterized” by adding a modern polymer stock and what appears to be a relatively low-powered, inexpensive scope.

Comments:

Serial numbers are essentially NEVER important in solving a crime. And tens of millions of legally owned guns have never had a serial number. SNs are another one of those "gun control" myths that are absolutely not true in the real world.

Almost all I know about solving gun crimes I learned about on NCIS. Ever rifle puts a unique signature on the bullets it fires. Ballistics can match the bullets to the gun. Fingerprints on the gun identifies who fired it. Gunshot residue on the alleged perp will indicate he recently fired it. No serial number necessary. QED

Re #1, a lot of that is real, but with rifle bullets, frequently they are so destroyed from the high velocity impact that no ballistic comparison can be made. PIstol bullets, much lower velocity, much more useful as evidence. A bolt action rifle would not leak any gunshot residue, likely no indication of gunshot in that case. Semi-auto rifles or handguns and expecially revolvers, splatter powder gases all over the place, onto the hands of the shooter. I have talked to a cop friend who ran the ballistics lab in an adjacent city. He said that if you used a somewhat abrasive gun cleaner, or a stainless steel bore brush on your gun it will totally change the scratch patterns and mess up any attempt to match micro scratches on barrel with a bullet.

Dumb clickbait headline on article that tells us serial numbers are not important in crime solving. An article here just after we found out it was grandpa's Mauser informed us that these are imported in the "hundreds of thousands". Importers are supposed to mark them but probably doesn't happen...

Re #3, prior to 1968, there was no requirement for any gun to have a serial number or to mark guns when imported. Many tens of millions of surplus rifles and handguns were imported in the early to middle 20th century and sold legally thru the mails. I bought several Mauser rifles thru the mail as a teen, prior to 1968. Tens of thousands were sold out of barrels in Sears, Montgomery Wards and other stores for well under $100, no particular sales records were required. I paid $36 for a nearly mint Mauser in 1966, mailed to me. I earned money for guns and ammo on my paper route after school.

One of the biggest problems with protecting our a second amendment rights is that so few people today have Any knowledge about firearms. And halfway decent shooter could make that shot with a rifle like he used, even without using a scope.

Yep, #5. I have a stock Israeli surplus Mauser 98 that will put 5 shots in 4-5" group at 200 yards with the original open sights. Or I could do it ten years ago. My eyes aren't that crisp any more.

#4 is right. Millions flowed in and you could order them by mail. No FFL holder required to buy it through back then. Oswald used a 6.5×52mm Carcano. The shot was only about 250-300 feet. Not much of a trick for a man who earned "Marksman" designation in the Marine Corps. There are millions of ex-military rifles in the US. Mausers, M1s etc. The left can push "gun control" all they want but it wouldn't make any difference. An evil, determined person will find a way...bombs, airplanes. It's the world we live in.

That’s funny, most military rifles have serial numbers. The K98k rifle I had, had a serial number, a 4 digit number with a letter. They usually had a manufacturer code. I can’t believe it the serial number was polished off when sporterized .

The author's reference to Robinson's rifle's scope as "apparently" cheap and low powered jogged my memory. According to an article on the rifle by Addy Baird in the Salt Lake Tribune, 2:59 pm September 16, 2025 Robinson wrote "with two winking emojis" that the scope on the gun was a "$2k scope." I have no idea what the "two winking emojis" meant but if the $2K figure is at all accurate the scope would qualify as "high end" according to Brave's "Leo" AI assistant.

I can't see the furry gay Robinson going anywhere near that rifle other than to pull the trigger. His "practice" would have come from video games. Grandpa would have done the modifications and I suspect it was zeroed in just fine. A cheap scope in the $200-$400 range could easily have accomplished an accurate shot at the distance involved.

In his latest book, Lions & Scavengers, Ben Shapiro’s general thesis is that the people of the world can be placed into one of two groups: Lions and Scavengers. Conveying this theory using shorthand, Lions align with the typical American Thinker reader; they revel in the spirit of productivity, of creation, of success, of responsibility, of moral duty. Lions have merciful hearts. They have a healthy respect for tradition but are also great innovators. Scavengers, by contrast, are too angry and envious to be innovative. They are eternally revolting against nature, against authority, against the norms that make healthy civilizations function.

Her bravery has inspired the world. But in her hometown, her actions have met a muted response. To find out the truth, I visited the exact place in Dundee where the now-famous video of the Scottish lassie defending herself and her sister was taken. What I saw left me deeply shaken. Dundee, a port city north of Edinburgh in Scotland, has been in slow-motion decline since the late 19th century. The intricately carved sandstone facades of its historic buildings are the only reminder of its glory days, when it was the world’s centre of jute fabric production.

Britain is being roiled by protests against its government’s feckless immigration policies. Enormous numbers of “asylum seekers” have been welcomed into that country, fed and housed. A disproportionate number of those migrants are single men, and many native Britons understandably see their presence as an invasion that is being abetted by their own government. The commission of many sex crimes by these migrants has been the chief source of unrest.

To be clear, it is not a ban on mRNA, but the changes carry significant repercussions for mRNA vaccine research. The decision affects 22 federal vaccine projects and nearly $500 million in research and development contracts. It follows what HHS described as a “comprehensive review” of data from mRNA-related initiatives launched during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

One of the places I visited during a trip to the Balkans in June was a large nuclear bunker complex on the outskirts of Tiranë, the capital of Albania. It’s a massive underground structure—five stories, 106 rooms, and a two-story-high assembly hall, all covering 32,000 square feet—and was built in the 1970s during the height of the Cold War to shelter Albania’s Stalinist leader Enver Hoxha and his inner circle. Dug by hand, the bunker claimed the lives of many laborers. One could see it as the culmination of the many smaller domed concrete bunkers scattered across Albania’s landscape, cities, and beaches.

A computer is only as good as the data you put into it. That warning from the early days of computing -- garbage in, garbage out -- has never been more relevant than in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). AI now drives everything from search engines to image generators, yet instead of providing objective, data-backed insights, it too often parrots progressive narratives, twisting facts to match feelings. Case in point: despite U.S. Census Bureau data indicating that over 75% of Americans identify as white, AI-generated images of “typical Americans” often show mostly non-white groups. This isn’t intelligence. It’s indoctrination, built into algorithms by ideologues in Silicon Valley.

Three years ago Patrick Adamiak was an E-6 in the Navy, on his way to finishing a military career. At 28, he had a private business selling popular gun parts and replica, non-firing weapons. Today, he’s nearing his third year in a federal prison, serving a 20-year sentence. His life fell apart when the ATF decided to take an interest in him. They raided his home and found nothing illegal, just gun parts and entirely legal, semiautomatic guns. But these were the Biden/Garland years and guns of any kind, and gun owners, were in their crosshairs.

Our South Carolina neighborhood has green cans for garbage and blue cans for recycling. All our neighbors dutifully separate their garbage. We don’t, and we don’t for a very specific reason. What I discovered a couple of years ago is that, while different trucks drive around collecting blue and green cans on garbage day, at the end of the shift, the trucks dump all the garbage into the same landfill. It’s a scam that, according to my local representative, makes people feel good about themselves. When I lived in Marin County, California, we also had to separate our garbage. In December 2009, the Endangerment Finding was born when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under then-president Obama ruled that carbon dioxide (CO2) endangered human health and thus could be regulated as a pollutant. The EPA’s action flowed from an expansive and unjustified decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that CO2 was a pollutant simply because it was emitted into the air, and if the agency found it endangered human health or welfare, it could regulate it. VOX has referred to the court’s decision as the Roe v. Wade of climate policy, and VOX is right.[snip] CO2 is not listed as a pollutant or hazardous chemical under the 1970 Clean Air Act

According to his research, there is a statistically significant chance of a war breaking out in the next five years in a Western state, and given Europe’s interconnected nature, it could spark similar conflicts in neighbouring nations.
