So What Is This ‘Come to Pete’ Meeting, Exactly?

Original Article

Some really big news in the American military community broke this week, as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is convening an unprecedented meeting of his senior generals and admirals in Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday, September 30th. As the proprietor of a somewhat prolific X account that largely focuses on military matters, many people have been asking me what I think this meeting is all about, as the meeting is currently shrouded in mystery. So what do I think?

The only thing that troubles me about his scenario is that back in the 80's, every time President Reagan went on TV and gave a speech, within hours our base was put on full alert and we practiced full blow war, with the first shift 24 hours and 12-16 thereafter. Sleep was on the ground, in a corner or a chair if you were lucky. Chow for the first few days was what you squirreled away in your duffel bag. Sometimes it lasted for a week or more. It got to where I dreaded those speeches. Can you imagine the alerts a speech like this might cause? Glad I'm retired.

Personally, I feel like he's not going to wait for some of these people to resign. I think the purpose of the meeting has been kept secret so as to not give the DEI appointees a chance to coordinate a response to save their butts. I would not be at all surprised to see those people fired right there and then as an example to the rest. We'll see.

I am with #2 and hope that SecWar will call out a few names during the meeting, telling them they can pick up their labeled retirement packets from the table in the corner. Public firings have a way of focusing the minds of other wannabes.

The authors imagined scenario sounds like Pete is laying down the law. It’s sounds like he’s drawn al line in the sand. But i am hoping it’s more harsh and that “those whom Pete’s giving one last chance” are NOT given that chance and that they are fired on the spot and humiliated in front of all the others. They have had a year since the election and if they still are acting like politicians, it’s over for them.

A fun and entertaining proposal for what may happen on September 30th. I just realized the meeting conveniently falls on the last day of this fiscal quarter. Is this a portent? I agree with this author's assessment that the room will be filled with both warfighters and fat bureaucrats that get to wear spiffy uniforms. I believe there will be a lot of fat cut away on that day.

How many of today’s be medaled Admirals and Generals have ever won a real war? That’s an easy one, none of them. So why are they wearing up to ten rows of ribbons and all sorts of other badges on their uniforms that put the old Second World War Soviet Marshals who commanded the Red Army against the Nazis to shame? Take a look at the real admirals and Generals who won the Second World War, like General Eisenhower, who was the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, after that war he wore only two or three rows of ribbons on his uniform. Hopefully Hegseth knows full well that today’s Admirals and Generals, for the most part, are politicians in uniform, and do not think that any US elected civilian should dare to tell them how they should operate.

Whateveer SecDef Hegseth does, the goal is to bring EVERYONE in the military together under one common mindset. And that terrifies the enemoes of the US like nothing else. Our enemies know they cannot defeat us in a straight up fight so they inflitrate our society to divide us. An America that is united is an America that is unbeatable. I hope SefDef Hegseth all the best luck and pray he will weed out the miscreants who have forgotten they serve at the pleasure of the POTUS.

As someone pointed out on another thread yesterday, if Hegseth wanted to just give a speech, he could have done it via electronic links and all those generals and admirals could have stayed at their duty stations. Since he’s called them all to Quantico, to one place, it’s my sincere hope that scores of them will not return to active duty, but will be summarily cashiered (a great word!) and sent away.

Vindictive former FBI Director James Comey’s power trip is finally over as he has learned the “rule of law” he so often speaks of applies to him too. A federal grand jury has indicted Comey for obstructing a congressional investigation into the disclosure of sensitive information and with making false statements to the federal government, according to a DOJ statement. The false statements charge carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, which means Comey may be fitted for the prison jumpsuit he so dearly wanted to see President Donald Trump wear.

The Justice Department’s announcement that former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of making a false statement and obstruction of a congressional proceeding is all but a fait accompli. Pious, sanctimonious self-righteousness and hypocritical moralizing had long ago cost him his professional reputation. With charges of perjury and obstruction, Comey could face imprisonment.

The pain of a government shutdown won’t just be political: Millions of low-income women and children could be left hungry as soon as next week if congressional Democrats and the White House do not come to a deal. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children will soon run out of funding. If they don’t cut a deal to keep the government open, a senior White House official told RealClearPolitics, “Democrats would be turning their back on WIC recipients.” Called WIC for short, the program provides vouchers for healthy food to low-income pregnant and postpartum women,

Kamala Harris’s book 107 Days confirms two truths: Joe Biden never should have sought re-election and she did not belong on a national ticket. Biden was snared by Father Time and hubris. The 46th president was not the transformational figure he saw in the mirror. More than half the US rated him a failure. “People hate Joe Biden,” Harris quotes David Plouffe, her senior strategist and an Obama White House veteran, as saying. What’s unstated is that Harris was never a vote-magnet.

The White House is telling federal agencies to prepare large-scale firings of workers if the government shuts down next week in a partisan fight over spending plans – prompting the Democrats to accuse Donald Trump of intimidation tactics. In a memo released on Wednesday night, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said agencies should consider a reduction in force for federal programs whose funding would lapse next week, is not otherwise funded and is “not consistent with the president’s priorities.” That would be a much more aggressive step than in previous shutdowns, when federal workers not deemed essential were furloughed but returned to their

Common wisdom holds that Democrats are likely to retake the House in next year’s midterms. Perhaps — that’s what history would suggest. But a recent poll shows that Republicans retain relative strength on important core issues. CNN’s Harry Enten summarized those data well in a recent appearance: Looking at the Washington Post/IPSOS poll, Enten found that Republicans retained a lead over Democrats on which party voters trust more to handle the economy, crime and immigration.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned California on Friday that his department would withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in federal highway funding from California if it continues issuing commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) to illegal aliens and other ineligible foreigners. Duffy's threat stems from an emergency rule the Department of Transportation rolled out imposing stricter rules on states regarding CDLs, prohibiting them from issuing the licenses to foreigners unless they hold employment-based visas and can pass a federal immigration status check. The rule came in response to an ongoing audit that revealed "a catastrophic pattern of states issuing licenses illegally to foreign drivers"—particularly in California—

On September 14 in The Media, Charlie Kirk and guns, I engaged in a bit of informed speculation about the reported Mauser 98 rifle alleged to have been used in the assassination of Charlie Kirk. I also suggested that if the assassin had never fired the rifle, if it was not properly zeroed for him, it’s likely hitting Kirk in the neck was an indication that he nearly missed. This assumes the killer was aiming for a chest or head shot. Now we know the rifle was a Mauser 98, apparently “sporterized” by adding a modern polymer stock and what appears to be a relatively low-powered, inexpensive scope.

Ukrainian sources confirm that the country was only able to survive Russia’s original onslaught, when the world expected Kyiv to fall in days, because President Donald Trump had provided it with Javelin missiles in his first term. Now he can end the war by arming Ukraine with game-changing Tomahawk long-range missiles and other munitions. Reportedly, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky made that ask in his Tuesday sitdown with Trump. Trump now says Ukraine can win the war and retake land captured by Russia — perhaps even Crimea, which President Barack Obama passively let Vladimir Putin seize in 2014.
