More Satisfying Than Being Number One

There was a moment this week—brief, unassuming, and barely covered in the blaring swirl of press microphones and boom cameras—when one of the most dominant athletes in the world offered a sermon disguised as a shrug. Scottie Scheffler, the current World No. 1 in golf, sat before a packed room of reporters ahead of the 153rd Open Championship in Northern Ireland. As expected, the questions were incessant: what does it mean to be No. 1, what drives him to win, how does he stay so mentally sharp? Sports journalists, trained to extract sound bites, wanted a narrative. Scheffler gave them something far more meaningful. “There’s a theme,” he said early on.

Comments:

WOW!! I'm even more impressed with Scottie Scheffler!!

Family before golf: Scottie Scheffler's priorities are in perfect order. My greatest hero in golf, Jack Nicklaus, has always been the same way as Scottie, completely devoted to his family. It's why our respect for them is so great. Being a devoted husband and father never seems to hurt one's career. In fact, that devotion probably helps one's career.

Ugh! I don't know anything about this man, but I HOPE this article missed it by a mile. It seems to imply that Scheffler believes: "it’s not about what you accomplish but who you become in the eyes of your wife, your children, and your God." and then it goes on to say about this man: "He’s aiming at faithfulness in things that outlast it all." As noble sounding as those goals appear to be, I hope they aren't what inspires Scheffler--or anyone else reading this. After all, what happens if in spite of all you do, your children rebel or your marriage goes to hell in a hand basket? What if, in the end, you're NOT the roaring success in life that you thought you were going to be? Those are lousy goals--for Scheffler or anyone to have--because he (and you) can't control a large part of the equation that makes him (or you) "successful." The bottom line is that any time you get your identity from accomplishments, sooner or later you WILL be severely disappointed. No, what should motivate us, including this man, is that God loves for us. And He doesn't love us any more when we're successful, nor does He love us any less when we're a failure.

Authorities in Bermuda said Tuesday that they arrested four U.S. cruise ship passengers accused of drug possession. Police said in a statement that the suspects had a “significant quantity of illegal drugs” including cannabis and carfentanil, which experts say is 100 times more potent than fentanyl and is used to tranquilize elephants. “This seizure may have prevented a potential tragedy,” said acting Detective Superintendent Derricka Burns. The suspects also were accused of possessing vape pens and suspected THC gummies. Bermuda police said security officers aboard a Carnival cruise ship had detained the suspects.

California’s new $20-per-hour minimum wage for fast food workers has resulted in a significant decline in employment in that sector, leading to 18,000 fewer jobs than would have been the case otherwise. That’s according to a new paper released by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) this month, which said: We analyze the effect of California’s $20 fast food minimum wage, which was enacted in September 2023 and went into effect in April 2024, on employment in the fast food sector. In unadjusted data from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, we find that employment in California’s fast food sector declined by 2.7 percent

An appeals court has overturned a New Jersey sanctuary law that attempted to ban state and local agencies, as well as private contractors, from partnering with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain illegal aliens in detention centers. On Tuesday, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in a 2-1 decision that New Jersey’s law, known as AB 5207, “interferes with the federal government’s core power to enforce immigration laws” by banning state and local agencies and private contractors from working with ICE to operate detention centers for illegal aliens. “New Jersey is on the wrong side of that line. It dislikes some of the federal government’s immigration tools,

Here's a common tactic of the legacy media: Find an activist with credentials in a field they haven't worked with in years, someone with a laundry list of made-up grievances, someone fundamentally bitter and angry, and have them speculate on some personal aspect of a person they've never met or spoken with. Case in point: CNN recently trotted out a Dr. Chris Pernell, a left-wing activist who hasn't practiced medicine since her residency, to remote-diagnose President Trump's chronic venous insufficiency. It should come as no surprise that she immediately started crying the president's doom.

It’s always amusing to me who Democrats view as being their “star” at any given moment. That the person the party has chosen to elevate changes daily tells you just how screwed they know they are. As such, I figured I’d highlight who they’re flying as a test candidate from time to time, as they pop up like a cold sore on a hooker. This week it’s Secretary Mayor Pete Buttigieg. That Pete Buttigieg was ever a serious candidate, let alone the winner of the 2020 Iowa Caucuses, is a testament to the power of identity politics in the Democratic Party.

In a statement, Newsom said: The women and men of the California National Guard deserve more than to continue serving as puppets in Trump and Stephen Miller’s performative political theater. There was never a need for the military to deploy against civilians in Los Angeles. The damage is done, however. Stephen Colbert wants you to believe he's some kind of martyred truth-teller, canceled by the evil corporate overlords for daring to speak truth to power about Donald Trump. He’s not. It's a compelling narrative, if you're the type who still thinks late-night comedy hosts are brave crusaders rather than overpaid establishment mouthpieces. But, rather than accept reality, he’s leaning into the preferred narrative that he’s being silenced and that it’s President Trump’s fault.

Hunter Biden really walked smack into it when he “crashed out” during a YouTube interview with Andrew Callaghan that was released today. And, if you were to remove all the blacks and Hispanics included in those “white” crime statistics, that number no doubt falls drastically. However, in one sense, Hunter is right on the money: White men are significantly more likely to commit a crime…if you’re a white man like a Biden. If you’re a “white man” with the last name Biden,
