So far, President Donald Trump has been piloting his second term like Maverick from “Top Gun.” With one exception. The tariff rollout has been FUBAR, which is troubling since it’s Trump’s signature economic policy issue.
There have been glaring missteps along the way, repeated pauses, confused and conflicting messaging, turf wars. It’s draining public support and causing real economic problems as businesses can’t make plans while all this is in flux.
We aren’t privy to insider gossip to speculate why this is. But we can say that Trump needs to get his tariff act together, and fast.

I wonder how successful this editorial board has been in business? The old saying goes: "If you so smart, why ain't you rich?"
Yeah, Trump needs to get his act together because Brandon is about to "return to the national stage".

Over 90% of Non Chinese GDP in the world has come to the table to negotiate. How is that a FUBAR? The key goal of this policy is to isolate China and decouple it's economy from ours. That it seems to me is succeeding with the Chinese foolishly helping.

Negotiations take time. Its why Trump put a 90 day pause on the tariffs. The only FUBAR is the media reporting of tariffs.

The only FUBAR that happened is the crime and corruption that is allowed to occur in government. We the people can only be deceived for so long and it is about time correction or discipline occurs.

The article is correct. The rollout has been a disaster for many companies, including ours, because those making these decisions have little knowledge of the actual economy. For our company, we sell custom designed industrial machines which requires contracts to purchase 6 months in advance of when the customer needs the item. The machines are made to order. So we have 6 months of contracts to purchase and sell 6 months old with a tariff of 125% that was implemented on a whim of petulance at April 9, 2025 at 12:01AM for any shipment after that time. The money to purchase and sell had already been exchanged before that date by contracted terms, only the shipping dates to be determined, which are beginning to occur, after that date. There should have been a warning and phase out of tariff terms, rather than overnight decisions to implement even reciprocal tariffs, as businesses cannot change their supply lines in a microsecond.

What a stupid headline. We are now in negotiations with most of the countries and China is now going to be unable to sell their cheap crap here without paying big penalties.
That sounds like a big win to me.

Good grief. I can’t even pretend to be an economist or a trade expert but even I can see a clear strategy here. China is the target. In the meantime 130 countries have approached Trump to renegotiate tariffs. The cat and mouse tactics prevent China from forming coalitions against the US. And members of Trump’s team are not in lockstep? So what? They’re not Democrats. This ‘editorial board’ is made up of cowardly pearl clutchers.

Don't kid yourselves folks. The fix is going to hurt. Decades of government mismanagement, incompetence, and corruption has brought us to the point we are at today, and it was both parties. If there is a better solution, by all means, enact it. Personally, I don't see it. Will the tariffs work? Time will tell. Same goes with DOGE. Heard a secondhand story that a relative of mine who served in Iraq now has PTSD. He doesn't live in the US. Apparently, he lost his doctor because of DOGE. I don't know if it's true. If it is, I hope he finds a new doctor soon.

Is "FUBAR" the new talking point word, now that the Democrats and their minions have overused "chaos" to the point of comedy?

There are 75 Countries at least in line.
Has anyone ever watched the way DJT negotiates and does deals? If they're off balance, that's the goal! He's got these folks jumping all over the place. Some might say like 'American' jumping beans!

#11’s experience reflects what businesses will have to navigate and the old saying goes that businesses hate uncertainty. We must not dismiss the pains and fears that employers and workers will feel but must help and encourage them if Trump’s plan can succeed. Hang in there, #11, we need you to persevere and then thrive. Trump’s work won’t take long in the big scheme of things. Best of luck.
