Trump’s Arctic Policy Is No Folly

Original Article

On Sunday, December 22, President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his desire for America to take control of Greenland, saying it is an “absolute necessity.” The very next day, Greenland’s prime minister, Mute Egede, said the autonomous island, part of the Danish kingdom, was not for sale. But Trump’s plan—like that of William H. Seward, who, as secretary of state, oversaw the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867—is not without tremendous geopolitical advantage to America. It’s all about gaining greater American control over the Arctic, where Russia and China are cooperating to build a strong presence. Fears that such cooperation will extend to include North Korea and Iran are not unfounded.

Comments:

We should buy Greenland. Immediately.

I have no idea why the US needs to control Greenland. I imagine Denmark spends much more to support Greenland than Greenland produces. If the US owned Greenland it would become a no drill and no mine area. See information about Pebble Creek, Alaska.

A quick look at a globe will reveal Greenland's importance in Arctic navigation and trade, as well as defense. The Arctic route is becoming more navigable in winter due to modern ice breakers, which is also opening up the vast area for precious mineral mining. The Arctic route offers faster shipping between Asia, Europe and North America than transiting the Atlantic or Pacific oceans, increasing trade revenues. Greenland is a key and vital asset on many fronts. Denmark is too tiny to control or exploit Greenland's assets. If the USA does nothing, then Greenland is left to Russia and China to control and exploit. Power voids are always filled. Let's fill it with American Power. President Trump is a genius. MAGA!

The Louisiana Purchase was the acquisition of the territory of Louisiana by the United States from the French First Republic in 1803. This consisted of most of the land in the Mississippi River's drainage basin west of the river, in return for fifteen million dollars. Who still thinks that was a bad idea? The Alaska Purchase was the purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire by the United States for a sum of $7.2 million in 1867. Who still thinks that was a bad idea {Seward's Folly")? The purchase of Greenland is likewise a brilliant idea. Not sure if it can be done, but the concept has real merit and is serious strategic thinking.

Greenland should wake up and smell the geopolitical coffee. Russia and China are licking their chops over the Artic. Their statement of "not for sale" may turn into a cry for help in a few years.

As everyone knows, one of the Democrats' main guiding principles is Rahm Emanuel's infamous line, "Never let a crisis go to waste." The Dems' overwhelming Number One guiding principle, however, is, "Never let a crisis go without reminding everyone that you're a loathsome human being." The Climate Church dullards are an international embarrassment whose only real skill is the ability to move goal posts in order to help them sell their latest load of ideological horse dung. It is a movement devoid of any intellectual rigor because they constantly just make up the rules as they go. Whenever it is pointed out that they were wrong about something,

The Biden administration has pushed a regulation that would effectively ban cigarettes on the market as tobacco users have flocked to Trump during the 2024 presidential election. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is finalizing a rule that would lower the levels of nicotine to lower the potential addictiveness of the tobacco products. While Biden administrators believe it may attempt to reduce tobacco use, others believe that it may only boost criminals’ money by incentivizing a black market for cigarettes. “Biden’s ban is a gift with a bow and balloons to organized crime cartels with it, whether it’s cartels, Chinese organized crime, or Russian mafia. Susan Page was granted what was to be a 45-minute interview by our outgoing alleged president who cannot shuffle off the stage fast enough. The interview is pathetically unilluminating. Page’s story on it is here along with a transcript here. Biden shows no awareness of his present incapacity and Page isn’t inclined to press him on it. This was the best she could do: “Do you think you would’ve had the vigor to serve another four years in office?” Given the time Biden has spent on vacation over the past four years, this must be a some kind of a joke. Biden responds: "I don’t know. That’s why I thought when I

Bubonic plague is a severe infectious and potentially fatal disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. It is the most common form of plague and is primarily spread through the bite of infected fleas that typically live on rodents. The disease, also known infamously as the Black Death, ravaged Europe from 1347 to 1351, causing between 75 million and 200 million deaths (which included about 50% of the total population in Europe at the time). Those horrifying numbers still grip the imagination. Now, in an intriguing development, COVID-19 vaccine scientists have developed a new shot that would protect against Yersinia pestis infections.

I still haven't seen any confirmation after several hours of watching, so it might be eager beavers jumping the gun. However, it does seem pretty clear that Don Trump, Jr., Trump's oldest son, is making the trip -- and will hop off his plane tomorrow. According to Euractiv, a pan-European news site that is owned by the Brussels-based Mediahuis: Donald Trump Jr travelled to Greenland on Monday amid his father’s renewed interest in “ownership” of the island, and days after the leader of the autonomous territory of Denmark issued a push

I’m not sure that mass murderers Nidal Hasan and Shamsud-Din Jabbar are not more deserving of Presidential Medals of Freedom than George Soros. With the award to Soros, Biden has gone unspeakably low. E.E. Cummings (e.e. cummings) asked in one of his poems: “how numb can an unworld get?” He answered: “number.” By the same token, we might ask, “How low can an unpresident go?” Answer: I’m afraid we will find out before January 20 if we haven’t already. Vice president-elect J.D. Vance is thinking along the same lines. (X) Soros was “in good company,” of course. (X) So let it be written. So let it be done.

We can’t be sure, since his alleged presidency still has 16 days to go. But Biden’s awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to George Soros is likely to stand as his final insult to America. In honoring Soros, Biden said: “Born into a Jewish family in Hungary, George Soros escaped Nazi occupation to build a life of freedom for himself and countless others around the world,” reads the Soros citation. Soros has been a relentless enemy of freedom throughout his adult life. “His inspiring generosity reminds us all of our capacity and our obligation to stand up to the abuse of power and to be guardians of democracy and all people yearning to be

According to the federal government, the main terror threat to the U.S. now is lone actors inspired by extremism ideology. Those ideologies range widely. The majority of attackers are on the far right, as in the 2022 Buffalo supermarket shooting. But sometimes, as in the New Orleans attack, the driving ideology is radical Islamism.

President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday called for Judge Juan Merchan to be disbarred after he rejected Trump's bid to toss out his conviction in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's hush money case. "The judge should be disbarred!" Trump wrote in a lengthy TRUTH Social post. "This is why people, and companies, are FLEEING New York - A corrupt court system." Judge Merchan on Friday rejected Trump's bid to toss out the conviction in his New York hush money trial. He is expected to be sentenced on Jan. 10. The judge indicated Friday he was unlikely to impose jail time, and that he intends instead to sentence Trump to an "unconditional discharge."

So, we’ll contemplate the events of the past year or so through the lens of this passage from Matthew: “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” We begin with that human colossus overshadowing the entire globe: Donald Trump. We all know the story, even as it transmutes into legend, something that will be told, retold, analyzed, disparaged, and rekindled for generations to come. Los Angeles' budget is in the spotlight as multiple wildfires rage around the city amid revelations that Mayor Karen Bass slashed the fire department's budget last year while prioritizing spending on the city's homeless population. For the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Los Angeles budgeted $837 million for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), which was roughly 65% the size of the homeless budget of $1.3 billion. An analysis by L.A.'s city comptroller last year found that roughly half the budget for homelessness went unspent.
