Senate Democrats proposed a constitutional amendment on Dec. 16 that would abolish the Electoral College and ensure the country’s presidential elections were determined by the popular vote. “It is time to retire this 18th-century invention that disenfranchises millions of Americans,” Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said in a press release. He and Sens. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.) proposed the legislation after another proposal emerged in the House last week.

The Trump admin and his GOP majorities in congress need to make election integrity a major focus. We need to put the kibosh on all the dimocrat shenanigans. Its easily doable, the dimocrats just don't want it. Next we need to merge DC back into Maryland and give PuertoRico their independence. I am OK with Canada joining the USA as #51, but NOT DC or PuertoRico.

Dim Dick Durbin..... Does this moron know that 3/4 of all state legislatures must ratify an amendment? The smaller states will NEVER vote to weaken their power. The EC is never going away because it is a genius thing, preventing the most populous states from steamrolling the smaller states.

The truth is that Ronald Reagan killed the Demon-Rat Party when he won 49 states in the 1984 election. The Communist Party USA then scavenged the name "Democrat Party" from the dead corpse and used it for a cover. They were smart enough to not play all their cards at one time, and it has taken them until now to no longer hide their true intentions: Absolute dictatorial power and the destruction of our republic!!!!! And if Donald Trump hadn't come along, and the Hilldebeast had won in 2016, they probably would have already accomplished their nefarious goals!!!!!

The smaller states entered the union partly because the Electoral College protected their interests. If the EC were abolished, the smaller states would have the moral right to withdraw from the union, based on the contract principle of failure of consideration.

The Founding Fathers never imagined career politicians who stayed in office for decades. Talk about being disenfranchised. If the conservatives controlled the urban centers, this guy would be singing the praises of the Electoral College. As a test, ask Durbin is he still wants to get rid of the filibuster.

The whole reason there is an Electoral College is to keep the big populations states from ALWAYS dictating to the other STATES what the national policy should be. Originally, New York state had 1 million residents while the other 12 'colony' STATES would never have been able to stop that state from ruling EVERYTHING. That allowed the other 12 to have a voice in keeping New York from being a BULLY STATE over the interests of the others. It is even MORE important now, as certain states will almost alway pick demonrat socialists. New Yourk joined with California, and Illinois also with a few states NOT on the East and West Coasts can dictate to the others what policy will be. It will take an Amendment to to this little scheme because a law of stature cannot over rule a current Constitutional Amendment. Prohibition came and went this way, and the it was removed. The Founders KNEW a charlatan would come some day to UNDO what they had wrought, and that joker came in 2008 in NoBama who has systematically tried to "transform" (read:DESTROY) the moral, governmental and societal norms into some sore of weird melange like we have witnesses when RINOs McPain and Mittens did little of nothing to stand against it. No thanks, demonrat socialist Marxists!

the Democrats only support this because they are the likely beneficiaries. If they usually got a majority of the electoral vote but less than half the popular vote, they'd think the Electoral College was the greatest thing ever. Same with the Supreme Court--they only want to pack it because a majority of the justices don't vote their way. They care only about partisan politics, not what's best for the country.

Look at what happened in Atlanta when they threw the Republican Poll watchers out of the building while they were still counting ballots. The Founders of our country knew what they were doing. 20 Republican senators are up for re-election in 2026. It is time to shake some of them up because they have forgotten for whom they work. The Republican leadership allowed party senators (the caucus) to vote to impeach Trump in 2021. Seven did. While some of the names in leadership have changed the attitude remains the same as many Republican senators try to block Trump’s appointees to the Cabinet. Given that most Republican senators represent one of the 31 states that went for Trump, that is a big FU to the voters.
