President-elect Donald Trump is considering replacing Pete Hegseth, his controversial pick to lead the Pentagon, with one-time 2024 rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, people familiar with the discussions told The Wall Street Journal Tuesday.
The move comes as Hegseth, a 44-year-old Army veteran and former Fox News personality, faces increasing scrutiny over allegations of sexual misconduct and financial mismanagement. The defense secretary post requires Senate confirmation and Hegseth faces an increasingly uphill battle to win over GOP members with concerns about his past.

Hegseth must have a gap in his brain, not to have advised the Trump team that he had a slew of woman issues. Politics is a nasty business. Apparently, 6 Rino's are going to determine Trump's nominees, and I wouldn't hold my breath on that, as the team will not be in place before the end of 2025. We have elected Republicans over and over, and they have stabbed us in the back every time.

I have nothing against Hegseth but would feel comfortable knowing DeSantis was SecDef. Our military leadership has gone adrift and needs the attention and direction by strong, competent leadership. This pre-transition drama, regarding the incoming president's nominations to lead various departments and agencies within the federal government, is not as damaging to an administration hoping to hit the ground running, as post-transition drama.

DeSantis is certainly a capable administrator, but why would he want to leave his chief executive job in Florida? Also, DeSantis had six years as a Navy lawyer. Hegseth did fourteen years in the Army including two combat tours and wrote a book on what's wring with our military. He would get my vote, but President Trump will decide, and whomever he decides should get EVERY Republican vote in the Senate.
I would hate to see qualified candidates shot down by the relentless media smear machine and spineless RINOs in the Senate.

If allegations of sexual misconduct and financial mismanagement disqualified one from government service who would be left? He's a warrior with combat experience. Please leave Ron deSantis alone. He's the best governor in the USA.

#1 What do you mean by ‘a slew of woman issues’? I’ve heard of one case where Pete was cleared of any charges. The comments here sound like the mainstream media has taken over your brains.

If Hegseth is not to be, the only good scenario is if he withdraws himself, like Gaetz did.

Trump, of all people, should know the lies that can be told about someone.
The fact that the media is putting a full court press on Hegseth, tells me that he is the one they are most worried about.
I expect the same treatment is coming for Kash Patel.

The same old hags and their fellow male hags in the Senate - mucking things up as usual. What is with them that every R nominee has to be as pure as fresh snow but for Dems - whatever the Dem President wants, he gets.
I am curious about the vetting process this time, especially in light of the nominee for DEA who withdrew. I wonder if Pam Bondi recommended him....
I think DeSantis would do well as SECDEF, but Florida would miss him and I don't now if he (and wife and family) wnat the job. He has three young children.

Allegations, not facts! Anyone can say anything and the press will run with the allegations of whatever by some mystery person at some unknown place and time. Just made up BS with no facts by the opposition to take down someone the fear and oppose.

Waving the white flag this soon is unsettling to me as it is not Trump-like. Please let this nomination go to a vote so we can identify the real Republican Senators--that would support a Republican President, from the sewer rat RINO's immediately.
Then find out if our "Republican" senate leader does anything to punish them (i.e.: Remove from committees) because they resist being team members.
There are a lot of great TEAM BUILDING facilitators out there. The US Senate Republicans need to spend a weekend with them to learn about the value of teamwork, and how it is essential for group success.
Say what you will about the democrats, but you have to admire them for sticking together to maximize the democrat initiatives.
Also, President Trump needs to get involved in the primary election when US Senate seats are on the ballot in Maine, Alaska and perhaps some states yet to be identified.

This appears to be a trial balloon of the lead variety. Pete Hegseth is a good and honorable man who has been subjected to a vicious whisper campaign of a thousand cuts from the legacy media. Trump, who knows a thing or two about witch hunts, realizes the hysterical opposition from the Pentagon, the military industrial complex and sundry Swamp critters comes from abject fear that the corrupt gravy train and pervert freak show will be derailed by Hegseth to be replaced by a warrior culture. The DeSantis gambit is a non-starter, as Trump wants him right where he is in Florida. Hegseth will be confirmed — the usual senate RINO suspects will be smacked up side the head with the bully pulpit and Elon Musk's threat of financing opposition primaries.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, arguably the most successful governor in the United States, still has two years to go in his second term. I (who voted for him both times) would prefer that he stay where he is. He's only 45, and has plenty of time for other things after he has served his two terms in Tallahassee. He shouldn't cut his term short.

I agree with # 9 that comment
#1 displays the very kind of blind acceptance of liberal "reporting" and denial of the presumption of innocence which is a bedrock fooundation of our Rule of Law. It is also the process which is leading these RINOs to decide without proper evidence that this woman ("slew of women?") is to be believed without giving Hegseth the opportunity to be heard, another bedrock principle of our legal system. It is the same kind of spineless mindset which caused the withdrawal of Matt Gaetz-- no favorite of mine for sure but as an Amerian citizen he was entitled to be treated much more fairly--based on reports of an account by two "witnesses" of, to put it mildly, questionable veracity which caused him to be presumed guilty until proven innocent, exactly the reverse of the way it is supposed to apply. The media is one of the most dangerous forces in America today and spineless RINOs are right up there with them. By the way, in what world are Murkowski and Collins actually Republicans?

My guess is that Sens. Collins and Murkowski have drawn a line in the sand. They will not confirm womanizing politicians. Not because they're bad for the nation necessarily, but because they are a huge waste of time. The opposition will create a whisper campaign, which will create innuendo that will be leaked to the press, and then come the hearings, and impeachment buzz. President Trump's fix-it list is long, and his new administration has to hit the ground running on January 20th because there's so much work to be done. Pres. Trump doesn't have the time.

Hegseth was in the military where a pointed rifle at you called for action...he doesn't back down and is just the muscle needed at the pentagon...but will the rino senators confirm him because of problems in years gone by...let's remember Justice Kavanaugh and what he endured at the hands of the senate...all lies...but I don't recall an apology given to him and his family...only senator chuckie schummer threatening him and his family.....from the steps of the Supreme Court....

While I appreciate Hegseth's service to our country and his defense and advocacy on behalf of veterans, I was initially shocked at his nomination. I told my husband, he is a totally hound dog when it comes to women...so I'm not sure why he didn't get a closer vetting. Years ago, I was interested in his background after seeing some segment he did on Fox. I googled him and was SHOCKED to learn the sordid details of his personal history. I don't know about alcohol abuse, but at one point in time, he had a very hard time keep his pants on. I hope he is a changed man, but there's a lot there to be concerned about. If he makes it through, I'll support him 100% but hard to believe there are not better choices out there...DeSantis and Elbridge Colby comes to mind.

The biggest reason why 'Horny' Hegseth was a TERRIBLE PICK as one who would NEVER work out was the fact that he was A) Enlisted and B) National Guard. Those 4-Stars will be lighting fires under his chair every chance they get and making it look like he himself set them when the news cameras came around.
Why isn't General Flynn not being floated by Trump for ANYTHING?

the ppl who know and work with hegseth denounce the media lies as false, and stand for him.
the politics of personal destruction disguises the 1 goal of the swamp: money, money, money.
they won't get it from hegseth.

Both Hegseth and DeSantis are more than well qualified to do this job. That's why the democrats are complaining as usual. Keep fighting Hegseth, and I hope DeSantis finishes his term as governor. There will be good things in his future in 2028. Maybe a Vance DeSantis, or DeSantis Vance run as president, vice-president?

Pete Hegseth is the President's first choice and with good reason. We need someone to head the Department of Defense who has the courage and integrity to make our men and women in the armed services proud to be serving our country. Maybe we won't have such a problem with recruitment when he is in charge. He knows what has to be done. He is a soldier, besides being a graduate of Princeton and Harvard, and a wonderful father.
