How feral chickens rule the roost in Key West

Key West, Florida — In quirky Key West, Florida, it's not just tourists flocking to town, feral chickens have found their tropical paradise. And Key West City Commissioner Clayton Lopez has got a beef. They're "everywhere," he says, with entire chicken families often seen crossing roads. A resolution introduced by Lopez, which is now law, bans feeding chickens on public property. "What I am looking to do is to try and address the health issues of humans, as well as the chickens," Lopez said. The chickens can cause property damage and their droppings can spread disease. The chickens are sometimes run over by cars, and chicks can fall into storm drains.

Comments:

If you have been to Florida's southernmost city, you would remember the cats at Hemingway House and the chickens all around town.

The first time I made the drive all the way down US 1 to the party city, I stayed in a motel in just into town. At dawn the neighborhood got serenaded. "Ur-ur-ur-rurrr!" Some people wouldn't want to be woken by a rooster in the early AM. I loved it and quietly complimented the rooster for doing his job well. Pretty neat for a visitor. If it happened a lot around here, I'd have me some fresh chicken for supper.

These are amusing until a rooster sets up shop outside your hotel room when you've gotten to bed a couple hours beforehand.

I lived in Key West, but long ago when it was a relatively sleepy little city mostly taken up with the USN bases there and tourists down for sport fishing, sailfish, sharks and huge Jewfish. Of course today, you can't say that old name for these giant sea bass, 300-600 lbs. They have been renamed "Goliath groupers". Nothing survives the whiny perpetually offended. In those days, feral chickens were not apparent. Cubans kept chickens, probably let them escape.

A scrawny island chicken probably doesn't have enough meat on him to justify all the work plucking and gutting. We live on a farm so roosters come standard. Ours are big dual purpose boys who hang with our egg flock. They have their purpose and a good one will lay down his life for his hens. I don't mind the crowing, which happens periodically all day long. Every spring we have a rooster problem (nature's way is 50/50 and you only need maybe one rooster per 10 hens for fertility) but a problem rooster is not really a problem, he's just one step away from being a meal.

Three people have been arrested and two others are being sought for the ambush killing of Florida rapper Julio Foolio last month, officials said. The 26-year-old victim, whose legal name was Charles Jones, died on 23 June after his vehicle came under a barrage of gunfire in a car park of a hotel in Tampa. Hotel surveillance footage released by police shows the attackers dressed in black wearing masks as they take up their positions in the car park, opening fire with two semi-automatic rifles and one pistol. The rapper was killed during a weekend of birthday events that he had previously announced on social media. Isaiah Chance, 21, Alicia Andrews, 21,

Venezuelan Dictator Nicolas Maduro was declared the "winner" of the presidential election by the nation's election council on Monday morning. That came after exit polls showed him losing by as much as 30 points. Reports of Maduro's armed thugs closing down polling sites and stealing ballot boxes were prevalent throughout the process, all but confirming that the election was indeed stolen. What happens next is clear. Maduro will strengthen his grip on power instead of stepping down peacefully. As the saying goes, you can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out. Want to see the dichotomy of the media on display? Consider how, over the course of 2024, there has been no shortage of energetic coverage of Donald Trump and his lawfare trials. Not just the courtroom antics either, as Trump’s mugshot was blasted across every broadcast for the better part of a week. For at least two of the indictments, we were granted live coverage of Trump commuting to the airport to fly to the destination of his court appearance. Despite the hyperventilating coverage of the former president’s legal wranglings, other court cases involving the media are receiving scant attention; this is for obvious reasons.

It's been a week since Joe Biden left the presidential race, and he's barely been seen in public. After a fumbling Oval Office address on Thursday in which he failed to offer any explanation for his sudden departure, the president headed off to Camp David. That would be the same Camp David he hid out at before the debate performance that exposed his worsening mental and physical condition. In other words, his heading back to hunker down there is a pretty big sign of how bad off he is. Biden just suffered the most embarrassing moment of his career, clearly due to worsening health.

Democrats and their compliant media were trying to spread the narrative that former President Donald Trump was backing out of debates with Kamala Harris. What the Trump team actually said was that because of all the machinations that the Democrats had put on with shoving Joe Biden to the side and then some trying to anoint Kamala Harris without even a primary vote for the position, it wasn't officially clear yet who the nominee of the party is, and that they shouldn't be wasting their time setting up anything until there was an official nominee. (X) That's not "backing out." But that shows the bias of the media once again.

First of all, some perspective on polls. I have had some experience with polls and pollsters during my time in the media. The results of any poll are dependent on, among other things, the demographic contacted, the number of people polled, the questions that pollsters ask, and the way they phrase those questions. And it is not unheard of for organizations to conduct polls to obtain a desired result. So it is always wise to take the results of any poll with a few shakers of salt. Be that as it may, if the information about a recent poll that the Daily Mail highlighted is at all indicative of the

It has since been shown that Shepard and one of the perps were in the drug business together. Shepard was due to receive a $10,000 shipment of meth. The perp himself was gay and had been in a gay relationship with Shepard.
