Drivers report being stranded for hours on the 15 Freeway - which snakes from Los Angeles to Las Vegas - after a truck hauling industrial lithium-ion batteries caught fire. Officials shut down northbound lanes after the fire was first reported by the county's fire department near Baker around 6 a.m. Friday. Firefighters said they struggled to contain the truck's fire because of its lithium-ion batteries and were unable to contain the harmful chemicals and fumes. "Due to the lithium-ion, water cannot be added to the fire, the batteries must burn out on their own," the San Bernardino County Fire Department said. "Lithium-ion

Just wait till it happens (and it will) in the Tri State area of Chicago or NYC.

Wow! Imagine having to evacuate a wildfire and this happens a couple miles out of town.

Reminds me a little of Wyatt's Torch in Atlas Shrugged. When Wyatt joined the strike, he set his largest oil well on fire as a parting shot. Government could not put it out.

Gee - - isn't there a way to hook up the burning batteries to the stranded EV cars?
I mean - - why waste all that good charging energy?

Somewhat of a scare headline. Could have been any flammable hazardous material, although lithium does make extinguishing it more of a challenge. Coincidental, too, that one of the few (if not the only) lithium mines in the country is located just a few miles up the road from Baker, "the Gateway to Death Valley" and site of the world's tallest thermometer.

Wait until it happens in a long tunnel. Even after the fire, burnt vehicles will have to be dragged out, the tunnel examined, and possibly closed for repairs.

Just this morning a saw a video of a guy carrying his E-bike battery into an elevator, the door closed and then the battery exploded into an inferno and horribly barbequing him. NO GREEN NEW DEAL.

When are we going to realize that we need to ban all lithium-ion batteries as too dangerous a technology to permit ? These loons are planning and starting to build "grid scale" gigantic, literal multiple city block sized warehouse type lithium ion battery packs.
One of these caught fire in the San Diego area and last I heard, had burned for 10 days and they were still trying to figure out what to do with it. Water does not put out the fire, and it spreads toxic waste everywhere.

Our politicians have been well compensated for promoting battery vehicles, and destroying the power grid that was working so well....so it is doubtful that anything will change.

I saw a video someone posted on one of the sites I go to. A young man walks into an elevator carrying a battery, I'm thinking it might be a hotel elevator. Doors close, he starts to set the battery on the floor and it starts exploding as the doors are closing. Next thing you see is people pulling his burned body from the elevator.

There is an lithium-ion battery power storage facility approved for construction in a residential area in the Escondido/San Marcos area of north San Diego county. Three ion-lithium battery facilities in rural areas of the county have recently experienced uncontrolled fires that were left to burn-off over several days. Harmful chemicals and fumes were released during fire burn-off with the potential for thermal runaway. Fortunately these lithium fires were not in populated areas. The proposed new site is within a short distance of populated areas. A disaster just waiting to happen.

Kalifornia needs to build these lithium-ion battery storage places in the hollywood hills area, near Meathead, Cher, Streisand and Clooneys homes.
