A construction crew working on a bridge in Alaska’s Denali National Park was ordered to remove their American flag from their equipment. The park official said it “detracted” from the park experience.
Alaska Watchman reported:
The crew working on a 475-foot-long bridge in Alaska’s Denali National Park was recently told that they could no longer fly the American flag from their trucks or heavy equipment, which are being used in the $207 million Federal Highway Administration project.
The bridge is being built by Granite Construction, after a 2021 rockslide took out a portion of the popular Denali Park Road

Obviously. Merrell is a dim and concluded she/it must appease the complainers.

Sigh... another "strongly worded letter" instead of a swift and unambiguous dismissal of the park official.

Pride, BLM, AntiFa - those are permitted. I have always despised and objected to the practice of permitting the destruction or disbarment of the American Flag. It stands for FREEDOM!!
Everyone seems to protect every other flag, no matter how offensive, divisive or antagonistic the narrative it stands for. You can be arrested for damaging them if you find them objectionable.
I demand any Federal Employee who misuses his authority to infringe on the Peoples Rights - and this is a free speech issue - to be immediately terminated from Federal Service! I strongly suggest that any elected official who violates the People's rights be recalled and barred from further government service.
I have no patience with Anti-American "Public Servants" who don't serve and steal our money and Liberty! There are BIG changes coming to this country addressing this!!

If indeed someone complained I would guess that it was one of her fellow Park Service employees that complained. In my few visits to a National Park it was a Park Service employee that detracted from my park experience. They seem to employ control compulsive individuals.

The American taxpayers are paying for the bridge. I am 99.9% sure we would not find the flag distracting.

Flew back in to DFW airport yesterday on American from Frankfurt, Germany. I think at the South end of the airport tarmac, there is a US flag about 100' x 40' - damn impressive.

For those of you with older history books this is where Mount McKinley is located. Denali is an Injun word meaning Mule Muffin.

Denali is a beautiful place but is run by idiots. You can and will interact with bears but its a crime to carry any sort of sidearm. The rangers have rifles but they are locked in an armory and not accessible in a hurry. The second you get off the float plane you are completely at nature's mercy, and you are defenseless.
I frequently had trouble with rangers at parks, writing tickets and telling everyone what they can't do. Best time I ever had there was a stunning American Indian looking girl at a ticket booth. All the other rangers surrounded her the whole weekend and they didnt bother anyone else.

Actually, you can carry handguns in ANY National Park where the state laws permit carrying a gun. This changed about 15 years ago, and I have open carried a .44 Mag handgun on popular hiking trails in Yellowstone with hundreds of other hikers, nary a word. Now, admittedly, the holster is on my right side, just
behind the midline, and I have a small daypack on which may partially obscure the gun and holster, but they
are visible. Two issues, first people are AMAZINGLY unobservant, and two, it's legal.
When I was last in McKinley park in the 1970s, it was still illegal to carry and that was very uncomfortable when hiking and camping in the back country. Today, the laws of Alaska control, and Alaska has no problem with you being armed, openly or concealed.

I spent a week camping in Denali last summer. I carried my concealed 40 cal everywhere and my wife carried the bear spray. The shuttle bus drivers asked all their riders with bear spray to leave it inside backpacks while on the bus. No other problems or hassles.
The bridge they are building is way out on the portion of the road that is closed to the public. A few tourists might see the construction from a paid tour bus trip. Anyone complaining about American flags out there should be given a free ride down the landslide.

Re #18, technically INSIDE the park buildings is considered a federal building and CCW isn't legal. When I concealed carry, I ignore it in Nat Parks now days.
A recent court ruling which was specifically about post offices, which have the same "federal building, no guns" policy has stated that the post office restriction is unconstitutional. This is one court, one town, and not yet fully adjudicated up through the courts. You probably don't want to become a test case.
So, I don't carry in post offices or other federal buildings. I always carry in National Parks....all sorts of dangerous varmints there, two and four legged.
Be very careful to understand the state laws in the state that the National Park is in. Those STATE laws rule the legality of concealed or open carry in the National Park.....except inside the buildings.

Someone needs to be fired and fast. If the company that's building the bridge is involved, get rid of them. We will find someone else who will do the job. Perhaps the co. is Commie Chinese?

Visitors to the park should call Merrell and complain that the lack of an American flag on the construction site is detracting from the park experience.
