Solar's Been Taking a Beating Lately

There have been some spectacular flameouts in the land of solar cells lately. Actually, there was one today. Couldn't have made a bigger splash if it tried as it fried. Yes, you read that right. In the middle of a big swim meet with thousands of school kids and parents gathered in Australia under the roof of the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Center, that solar panel-encrusted roof lit off. All the "carnival" attendees and staff had to hotfoot it out of the building. A massive blaze plunged a swimming carnival into chaos with hundreds of school children forced to evacuate a busy aquatic centre. The solar panels

Lots of tornadoes in OK lately. They are usually preceded by hail. Hail will beat the heck out of those panels. Didn't know about the fire issue.

Above poster is correct. A few months ago a 3,300-acre solar installation near Houston, Texas was decimated by a heavy hailstorm. A cracked panel can still produce electricity, but it's output is reduced. Many buyers don't realize that solar panels relentlessly degrade over time even if undamaged, as do the batteries of electric vehicles, such that every passing decade or so will halve their capacity.

Solar is not economically viable. Proof - it requires taxpayer subsidies. You are not helping anybody if you install solar., you're taking money from other people.

The linked article explains that HRR means Heat Release Rate. Fighting electrical fires with water can be shocking! Photovoltaic panels cannot be simply turned off to stop the electricity.

The solar power industry is literally going up in flames. Fast-talking salesmen get you into a contract that is heavily government subsidized then disappear with their commission as amateurs install the array. You pay the installation bill as you would pay a mortgage because it's not cheap and never pays for itself. Only as time passes do you find out that there are not enough sunny days in your area to do much other than run a few lights. Before you know it, the panels need to be replaced. The Sun does a much better job on its' own.

Those panels must have been made out of soy, like the eco-friendly wiring squirrels and rats love. It got overcooked and lit up like dinner on the stove.

Because they do not exist in nature, solar panels are Satan's energy. Converting the sun's energy through plants into coal, petroleum and natural gas is God's way. And proof that He loves us and wants us to be comfortable. Guess which side the Left works for?

In most places, solar makes zero economic sense. In remote areas, too far for mains power, yes, anywhere that power lines go....NO, stupid, expensive, unreliable idea.

Actually, #2 it was totally destroyed, no decimated. "Decimated" means 10% destroyed, literally... the base word is from the Latin for "ten". This was punishment for Roman units who ran in battle....they were 'decimated', every tenth soldier was put to death by random lot. Most Americans misuse this word....as I did until a friend pointed this out to me, years ago.

A bridge connecting Galveston, Texas, to a nearby island was struck by a barge Wednesday morning, causing an oil spill and prompting police to shut the bridge down. The Pelican Island Causeway Bridge was struck around 9:50 a.m. when a tugboat backing out of a neighboring fuel storage operator lost control of two barges it was pushing, according to the Associated Press. No injuries were reported and two crew members were recovered after going overboard, Fox 26 reported. The people stranded on Pelican Island will be removed by boat, Galveston County judge Mark Henry said. Pelican Island is home to a Texas A&M satellite campus

If asked, school staff should teach the "biological facts" about sex, the government will say, The Times adds.

The segment opened with a number of polls showing Biden and Trump neck and neck, but the NY Times poll was followed by citing experts

China’s state-run Global Times propaganda newspaper dismissed on Monday growing criticism from President Joe Biden and his administration toward Israel as a last-minute “stopgap measure” to prevent a growing number of voters on the left from abandoning his 2024 presidential campaign. Chinese regime-approved “experts” told the newspaper that Biden’s “superficial criticism” was a response to polls and not an indication of Biden’s political views. The state outlet claimed that the change in tone was indicative of America’s “hypocrisy” and a “double face” intended to amass power, one that has led to American global influence “declining immensely.” The same Global Times suggested in November, a month after the October 7 massacre

It didn't go well; he was slurring a lot throughout the remarks. Anyone who knows Biden knows that anytime he talks to a group, he's going to come up with an "origin story" that fits the occasion. On this occasion, he noted how he was "raised" by the late Sen. Danny Inouye (D-HI) when he came to the Senate. US President Joe Biden’s administration has informed Congress that it is moving ahead with sales of munitions to Israel potentially worth over $1 billion, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The transfer includes up to $700 million in tank rounds, another $500 million worth of tactical vehicles and $60 million-worth of mortar shells, the report says. The munitions are intended to replenish stocks used during the war against Hamas, though it could take years for everything included in the deal to reach Israel. The report comes as Biden has faced pressure over his decision to freeze the transfer of large bombs to Israel over fears

The White House on Tuesday said President Biden would veto a House GOP bill intended to pressure him to send weapons to Israel, calling it a “misguided reaction to a deliberate distortion of the Administration’s approach to Israel.” The push back comes ahead of an expected vote this week on the Israel Security Assistance Support Act. GOP lawmakers introduced the bill after Biden warned he would withhold certain offensive weapons for Israel if their forces invaded Rafah in Gaza. But the White House cautioned that the legislation “would undermine the President’s ability to execute an effective foreign policy.”

Eighteen Republican-led states are suing the Biden administration’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over the federal agency’s new sexual-harassment guidance that enforces broad legal protections for transgender workers. The federal lawsuit, filed on Monday by Tennessee attorney general Jonathan Skrmetti, argues that the EEOC is overstepping its constitutional limits by unlawfully placing gender identity under the purview of Title VII, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin. The states agree with the 2020 Supreme Court ruling, Bostock v. Clayton County, that firing employees because they are transgender or gay constitutes sex-based discrimination. The plaintiffs, however, argue that the decision does not weigh on the accommodations
