Mexican cartels are continuing to show a willingness to stoop to any level of crime if it means more money for their criminal empires.
Alongside their usuals of drug and human trafficking, certain cartels are beginning to target the elderly population in America with timeshare scams that are estimated to be earning millions.

FTA: "Unfortunately for the victims, very few people have seen justice as typically a complex web of shell companies are established around the operation making it nearly impossible to find those responsible."
Just like the Big Bidet family.

Have to wonder what percentage of Mexican business is owned by the cartels. Probably makes all Mexican business deals sketchy at best. Who are you really dealing with?

AS a second note, do not ever attend an 'information session' with any of them...it is all high pressure salesmanship to get you into the timeshare...'you can give it to your kids', $100 gift card to use anywhere, lots of promises...this was the worst financial decision I ever made...steer clear...believe me, it's cheaper to stay at a hotel wherever you want to go...

If American seniors haven't found out by now that Timeshares are a losing proposition then they deserve to be taken.

We were offered time shares in the 80's pretty regularly. Most came with a complimentary vacation in a place we couldn't possibly afford otherwise. Alarm bells went off and we rejected every such offer. Times were pretty good in the 80's and they stayed that way because we didnt buy into sales calls.
Like #4 was saying, we can stay at any hotel cheaper than paying for a time share, and when we check out of the hotel we are done paying for it.

The thought of time-shares makes me feel sick with a cold sweat. When I was young and flush with cash from my business, I fell for the promises and got TWO units. That was thirty years ago when the place was a fun and family oriented. Now it has gone "corporate" with high prices for "fun" and the ever increasing maintenance fees. I am now in my 70's and have been trying to unload them for years. Unfortunately, I would have to die or go bankrupt, and even that would not stop them coming after my family. For now, my wife and I keep paying the fees and going every year while we are able to afford making the trip. The time-share business should be outlawed. They are a scourge from hell.

I went to one of their sessions. The deal was free tickets to a show if I attended.
I thought I was going to have to fight my way out.
After 2 hrs. of pressure I finally told the guy to shove his tickets up his ass I am leaving.
You are passed from one guy to another it ridiculous.
My advice stay the hell away from any of it.

DH and I purchased two time share weeks on Sanibel Island back in the early 80's. We used them every year except for one year when they weren't available because of hurricane damage. We enjoyed them, but the maintenance fees continued to increase to where each they were $2,000/year. We finally sold one of them at about the price we paid for it and the other one was returned to the company when we moved to Florida in 2000 and wouldn't be using it. One time before he turned the one back to the owners, we went to a meeting where these college kids would take that week off our hands, after we paid the maintenance fee for that year, and they would be given to companies who would use them as travel packages. It was funny to see all the people at the tables with the youngsters in that room getting up and walking out. They must have thought we old folks just got off the turnip truck.

As a current time share owner, I'd advise anyone thinking of getting into one, to just not do it...once in, it is almost impossible to get out, and maintenance fees go up every year without fail. And this, is a new wrinkle to beware of...if any caller says 'time share' just hang up...
