Lawmakers in Florida are finally addressing the problem of squatting, one of the most egregious property rights violations going on in America today.
This month, both chambers of the state Legislature unanimously passed a bill allowing law enforcement to immediately remove squatters without waiting weeks or months for a case to move through the courts, according to WJXT-TV.
If signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, the measure would go into effect on July 1.
The move comes as a relief to Florida property owner Patti Peeples, who dealt with squatters last year.
“It gives me a real feeling of positive hope that we still have the ability to discuss challenges

Evict squatters? It's too bad that the White House isn't located in Florida.

My guess, the law will start and then leftist "justice" will call a halt, and stay after numerous stays, delays and lawfare, squatting will become the new entitlement for the homeless class. That is how leftists work. The leftists will heartily pat themselves on the back and marvel at how they stuck it to the taxpayer.

Once again liberals are siding with the criminal. I never understood how a squatter had any right to occupy a property that is not under a rental agreement.

the "loophole" should never have been in the law in the first place so this is really a case of "locking the barn after the horse is gone" kind of thing
question: who were the mental midgets who wrote this law and what ever, in their logical mind, did they / he / she / it ever get the idea to seek passage of such a ridiculously stupid piece of legislation because
this sounds like the kind of legislation that the present day demcommies in D.C. would write and propose for enactment and
also .... who was the idiot Governor who signed this into law? --- that should be the big question

How many congress critters leave their district homes empty while they are in DC?
Hmm... who has priority? The squatters or the illegals?

About time. It should have been done years and years ago.

Do an Internet search for "squatter right." In places like Kalifornia, it can take months, or longer, to get someone out. If the squatter manages to pay at least one utility or other bill at the residence, it can take years to get rid of them. There was a great video of a home owner pulling a fast one on the squatter. The home owner Inherited his mother's home, but did not live there yet. A mother and son had squatted in the home. The neighbors stated that the squatters left each morning, so after they left, the real homeowner hired a crew and put all of the squatters belongings out on the driveway. He also changed the locks. When the police showed up later, the homeowner had the deed to the house. The police told the squatters to have a nice life, somewhere else.

I would use the castle doctrine. Shoot every one of the vagrants and claim that they broke into your house, which they did. Or skip the claim and haul the bodies out to the dump. Squatting is not okay. Local governments go along with it because you are forced to house them, not a government-run homeless shelter.

Squatters are Criminal Thieves that keep property owner from his/her payment due. They thus force the owner to pay taxes on the property without compensation and in some cases the utilities as well. They should be held accountable with even a short time lock-up situation. Been there done that in NC a few years back and it took almost 8 moths to evict ...................

They just passed this in West Virginia. Squatters are not considered tenants.
"No Court of this state shall require the utilization of eviction, or a similar procedure such as those found under §55-3A-1, et seq. or §55-3B-1, et seq. of this Code, by an owner in any instance involving the removal of a squatter from possession of a property."
It's now on the deadbeat Governor's desk.

Probably afraid that the Governor’s Mansion will be taken over by “squatters”!

It's a start. I have never heard of this happening in my small city. Try it on some of these ol' boys around here and you might get an "eviction notice" at the end of a shotgun.

Just checked my state. There are no squatter's rights unless you live there for 20 years openly or 10 years and pay the property tax. No wonder I don't hear about it here.
Just this month there was the story about a couple w a Down's Syndrome adult child bought a home in Queens,NYC for over 1 millon dollars andit is occupied by the evil former caretaker of the previous owner. He is doing th8ngs like putting on heat full blast and opening windows to drive up their heating costs. They have been trying to get him evicted for over a year. The squatter just recently got a 6 month extensi9n to live there since he can't afford a lawyer.,
