West Texas oil billionaires Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks entered the 2024 primary election cycle wounded.
Their political network was in the middle of a scandal over its ties to white supremacists. Republicans were calling on each other to reject the billionaires’ campaign money. And their enemies believed they were vulnerable — one bad election day from losing their grip on the state.
Instead, Dunn and Wilks emerged from Tuesday perhaps stronger than ever — vanquishing old political foes, positioning their allies for a November takeover of the state Legislature, and leaving little doubt as to who is winning a vicious civil war to control the state party.

Get past the left wing incendiary headline (Nick Fuentes - think "Squad" for racist equivalent) and the progressive viewpoint, you'll get a good idea of the seismic shift that happened in Texas last Tuesday. It was engineered by Governor Abbott and funded by the subjects of the article.

Reading article, it's hard to know if this is good or bad - but hey, what's the point of being a billionaire if you can't buy the people you want?

Every election, we hear that Texas is turning "purple". Pure BS.
Sure, there are a few pockets of hard-core lie-beralism (the big cities -- especially Austin). But most of the rest of the state is solidly red.
In fact, the only places turning purple are the border counties that are predominantly Hispanic and used to be solidly blue before the Hispanics started waking up to the pure evil of the Demon-Rats.

This article drips of liberal bias thoughout.
They mention 'white supremacist groups' but never mention the names of the groups so we all know who the media in this country considers white supremacists. Pretty much anybody who doesn't believe minorities should be treat equally under the law and not special.

Would the Texas Tribune like some cheese with that whine?
Not knowing the whole situation it sound possible that in winning, some less than desirable people may have been involved. Not that they did anything wrong but their views may be extreme. But clearly, this paper is NOT an unbiased source.
It is clear that Paxton and Abbott not only talk the talk, they also walk the walk and they KNOW how to get the job done. The fact that the liberals in the state got their clocks cleaned is wonderful and well deserved. Liberal media is choking on that and is suffering from sore loseritis.

Yes, the Texas Tribune is the MSDNC of the Lone Star state. They try to play non-partisan but their liberalism oozes deep in their articles.
There were a lot of RINO-style Republicans in the State House. The Speaker was their leader and most of them just ignored the needs of their local constituents. One of the guys in the runoff is our Texas House member. He (and his father before him) ran and won with big margins for as long as I can remember. But he forgot the local folks and did the bidding of the big money folks. It's 50-50 that he loses in the runoff (he was beat 48-45 in the primary, so turnout in the runoff will determine).
Not sure how much smoke and/or fire is in this "white supremacist" story. Yeah, these guys are right of center, but our liberal friends at the Texas Tribune and Texas Monthly tend to think anyone three steps to the left of the Bushes are knuckle-dragging conservatives.
And at least Texas Monthly has great stories on Texas BBQ joints and their Texanist columnist (think Miss Manners of all things Texan) to make it worth getting that rag.

I’ve never heard of these guys but I like what I’m reading. Mr Rep is the one-eyed snake. He’s slithered through so our oil boys need to focus some energy on him. Sounds like they trying to get rid of the dimocrats in sheep’s clothing within the state, first.

This is just snark that MAGA conservatives are taking back the Texas GOP apparatus from the Bush-Rove crowd. For decades, we have put up with state leaders that we knew dang well were just tolerating first Reaganites, then Tea Party and finally Trump’s MAGA voters. They always try to destroy us from within and it’s done a lot of damage what with our giant urban cities now run by Democrats. Well, no more!!! Texans have awakened big time and we are putting a halt to any more spread of pink, purple or any other blue shade of Demoncrat on our electoral map!!
Congrats Tim and Farris who are being accused of the usual white supremacist nonsense because they are pouring money into defeating every RINO and demoncrat in sight.
