West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced a coalition of 10 states will file a legal challenge to new regulations requiring public companies to disclose their climate-related risks and direct greenhouse gas emissions. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) voted 3-2 Wednesday to approve the climate disclosure rule, which will go into effect in 2026. Intense blowback from the business community delayed the passage of the final rule as the agency combed through thousands of comment letters following the initial proposal in 2022.

A United Airlines flight rolled off the runway at a Houston airport Friday morning, the airline said in a statement. The Boeing 737 plane had landed at George Bush Intercontinental Airport around 8 a.m. when it rolled onto the grass as it exited the runway for the gate, United and Houston Airports and Houston Spaceport said in separate statements. The flight, which left from Memphis International Airport, had 160 passengers and six crew members on board. Passengers deplaned on the taxiway and were bused to the terminal. No one on board was injured.

An investigation by the Department of Defense into UFO sightings found no evidence to support the possibility of extraterrestrial life. The Pentagon published a report on Friday by its All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) reviewing 80 years of UFO sightings and concluded there is no evidence UFO sighting reflected the existence of alien life. “AARO found no evidence that any USG investigation, academic-sponsored research, or official review panel has confirmed that any sighting of a UAP represented extraterrestrial technology,” the DoD report summarizes. Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) is the technical term used to classify UFOs.

Houston — Donald Trump wasted little time putting his imprint on the Republican Party just days after becoming its presumptive presidential nominee. At the Republican National Committee’s spring meeting here Friday, members elevated Trump’s endorsed candidates – North Carolina GOP chairman Michael Whatley and the former president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump – to serve as the organization’s new chair and co-chair, respectively. The two were elected to succeed outgoing RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and RNC co-chairman Drew McKissick. Neither faced any challengers Friday.
Houston Mayor Refuses to Call for a Ceasefire

Pound sand, y'all. That's my interpretation of how Houston Mayor John Whitmire handled a demand from the city's Mulsim community. Houston Muslim leaders issued a 24-hour deadline to the mayor in their demand that he call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. There was a Thursday 5:00 p.m. deadline for the mayor to call for a ceasefire and Mayor Whitmire did not meet that deadline. More than 40 Muslim Imams and organizations threatened to boycott the city's annual Ramadan dinner. And, they threatened to remove their support. They said if he did not meet their demand Whitmire would lose audiences, business partners, and also votes.

West Texas oil billionaires Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks entered the 2024 primary election cycle wounded. Their political network was in the middle of a scandal over its ties to white supremacists. Republicans were calling on each other to reject the billionaires’ campaign money. And their enemies believed they were vulnerable — one bad election day from losing their grip on the state. Instead, Dunn and Wilks emerged from Tuesday perhaps stronger than ever — vanquishing old political foes, positioning their allies for a November takeover of the state Legislature, and leaving little doubt as to who is winning a vicious civil war to control the state party. In race after race,

The Washington State Legislature, in a historic move, has green-lit three citizen-driven initiatives covering police pursuits, a ban on income taxes, and a K-12 parental rights manifesto. On Monday, March 4, Initiative 2081 was among the trio approved by lawmakers, now set to transform into state law without the need for the governor's autograph, effective early June, following a customary 90-day post-session enactment period, as reported by the Kirkland Reporter. Washington has witnessed history make its mark as such a legislative trifecta hasn't been observed since 1995, and before that, on barely a handful of instances within a century, per Kirkland Reporter. Backing for these initiatives included fiscal
Big win for school choice in Texas 4 replies

Texas voters delivered a stinging rebuke on Super Tuesday to incumbent Republicans who stonewalled Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R-TX) efforts to enact school choice in the Lone Star State. It is a message Republicans everywhere should hear. In the primary races for seats in the Texas House of Representatives, 10 Republican incumbents who helped block school choice legislation were either defeated outright or now face runoff elections. The results are a vindication for the governor, who took the unusual step of endorsing challengers to sitting lawmakers of his own party. Next year, Texas will probably become the most populous in the nation with universal school choice.

Progressive Democrats are furious at President Joe Biden for accurately describing the man suspected of murdering 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley. Biden addressed Riley’s death during his State of the Union address Thursday evening after he was heckled by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.) and misstated her name in the process. “Lincoln (sic) Riley, an innocent young women who was killed by an illegal, that’s right,” Biden said while holding up a pin with her name on it. “To her parents I say, my heart goes out to you having lost children myself, I understand,” he added. Progressive lawmakers led by Representative Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) objected

Delivering the GOP response to Biden’s State of the Union from her own kitchen table, the freshman senator laid into the president for the border, crime, the economy and his work on the international stage. “President Biden just doesn’t get it. He’s out of touch. Under his administration, families are worse off, our communities are less safe and our country is less secure,” she said from her home in Montgomery, Ala. “I just wish he understood what real families are facing around kitchen tables

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) went off on President Joe Biden’s Thursday night State of the Union speech, a diatribe so full of rage and venom that it was hard to watch. Biden spent most of the evening shouting at the assembled lawmakers, hectoring those on the wrong side of the aisle and demeaning anyone with different viewpoints. Cruz rightfully laid into him, saying that the speech seemed like the rantings of an angry old man. Appearing on Sean Hannity's show on Fox News, he said he’s never witnessed such an alienating spectacle: Look, I think tonight was astonishing. I've never seen anything like it. He’s made it abundantly clear he’s not a fan of Trump, who he refers to as a “white billionaire” who is “asinine” and “stupid.” He made his clarifying comments on Wednesday’s edition of “King Charles” on CNN. On Saturday, the basketball star bluntly stated, “If I see a black person walking around with a Trump mugshot, I’m gonna punch him in the face.”

Happy Friday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. (Snip) For over 30 years now, my preference when it comes to the State of the Union address is to avoid the televised applause break circus and read the transcript later. That used to mean waiting until the next day to read it in the paper. Now I don't have to delay the torture. During more than three years of his presidency, Joe Biden has become known as much for his bursts of anger and yelling as for his serial lying and concocting mumbling words that make zero sense. [snip] He had one last opportunity to at least try to somewhat heal — if just a bit — a nation further fractured by his divisive presidency. Yet, there Joe was: "Us against them" vs. "Let's try to come together." The latter was not to happen. Instead, a very angry president screamed at House Republicans and about Donald Trump — and even looked the Supreme Court justices in the eye and politically chastised them

Joe Biden’s fiery but mostly peaceful State of the Union address prompted many to suggest that he had been drugged before the speech to ensure an energetic performance. I don’t doubt that many wags made those comments in jest, but it may actually be the truth. A psychiatrist who specializes in elderly dementia patients told the Washington Times that Biden displayed behaviors indicative of stimulant usage to conceal cognitive decline during his State of the Union address on Thursday. While Democrats were rushing to claim that his performance proved that he was physically and mentally capable of handling the presidency, Dr. Carole Lieberman, a forensic psychiatrist based in Beverly Hills, Calif.,
