A cold El Nino winter reveals yet another
problem with electric vehicles

Original Article

Have you ever driven a Tesla? I have. It’s a lovely car to drive because it accelerates quickly, handles well, and is stocked to the brim with cool gadgets. In a sane world, rich people would buy it and other electric vehicles (EVs) for fun and, as competition drove the price down, ordinary people would think about them, too. But we don’t live in a sane world. We live in an insane world in which our governments are forcing us to buy EVs to “save the climate.” That’s why it’s important to focus on just how awful EVs are

Comments:

I had to laugh at the guy in -45 temps sitting in his Tesla with the heater running...to stay alive, literally....and the battery taking twice as long to charge because of the electricity he was using to heat the car.
Gas cars use WASTE heat to heat the passenger compartment, costing exactly ZERO extra energy consumption. And, of course, the gas tank fills in a couple of minutes, and you have a range of 400-600 miles, depending on the vehicle. If you read the X post, the guy with the Tesla says he gets 170 mile range in the real world. And summer AC drastically cuts range, too.

How many years have EVs been available for purchase? Three? Four? We should be on generation 2 or 3 EVs and they should be fixing some of their problems. Problem is they aren't. The EV market is rapidly running out of runway to fix things.

In the Colorado mountains, an ecar is a death trap especially in the winter. These are basically a golf cart with windows, heater, radio, windshield wipers, air conditioning, and these funny little cameras on the bumper. Just wondering though, where did the plastic and materials come from to make these cars? Hint - oil & gas and mining. There, I said it. There is no way I would spend +$75K on a monstrosity like an ecar. Lefties and greenies, this is what happens when you politicize your so-called climate change schtick. Nice try, this time. But back to the drawing boards, lefties and greenies - to design your next false flag. Meanwhile, we hope the automaker CEOs have finally awakened, have smelled the coffee (wondering why they have millions of unsold ecars sitting on their dealers' lots), and now know that we the people have chosen to abandon this lefty charade.

We should all be skeptical when the government chooses one company or technology instead of allowing the marketplace to choose. Because it always means there's a hand in a pocket seeking undeserved advantage..

I don't have a problem with anyone who wishes to buy an electric car or a Rolls Royce. I do have a problem with having to subsidize electric cars and being faced with ever onerous regulations on for vehicles with internal combustion engines that are economical. Additionally, this has nothing to do with climate change. It is only about power and control by and for the government over productive citizens.

Has anyone else noticed that the more the Government tries to monkey with the environment, i.e. reduce CO2, the more the weather seems to be screwed up? Maybe we need to pump as much CO2 into the atmosphere as we can and then things would be better. ;-)

Yep. Resistive-load heaters, drawing 33+% of the fresh wattage you're pumping into the batteries. Still, not as bad as the episode last winter when I-95 shut down overnight in VA, trapping hundreds in their vehicles. Roadside assistance was able to gas up the smart drivers who ran their heater until the tank was empty - no such option for the EV owners. Oh, and when traffic started moving again, the EV's then became roadblocks that had to be towed out of the way.

I could maybe see having a CHEAP EV as a short-range commuter car..... IF the economic numbers (cost to charge vs. gasoline fuel, insurance, etc.) work out.... AND I had a place to park and charge it... AWAY from my house! But cold weather? Batteries lose so much.... there's a reason that conventional car batteries have a 'CCA' amperage rating. That CCA is COLD cranking amps!

Most Iowa GOP caucusgoers refuse to accept President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory and say they would view former President Donald Trump, whom CNN projected will win the caucuses Monday night, as fit for office even if convicted of a crime, according to CNN’s entrance poll for the Iowa Republican presidential caucuses. Trump’s victory highlights his strength among key groups that form the bulk of the GOP electorate, according to the entrance poll. Roughly half of Iowa caucusgoers described themselves as “very conservative,” and nearly half identified as part of the MAGA movement, referring to the “Make America Great Again” slogan popularized by Trump in 2016.

Last summer, my Legal Insurrection colleague Vijeta Uniyal reported that despite U.S. sanctions, China was building up its chipmaking capabilities at breakneck speed by importing manufacturing equipment at a record pace. However, later in the year, the U.S. indicated it was planning to update new chip restrictions on exports to China related to the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. This came as China implemented its own restrictions on minerals needed to produce semiconductors and other advanced technology. Now comes news that the Netherlands has blocked the export of equipment to China, which it needs as part of its chipmaking process.

“Affirmative Action lowers the standards wherever it touches.” -Martin L Gross The above observation by the late sociologist Martin Gross is especially relevant today after the president of one of the most esteemed universities in the world resigned in disgrace after her serial plagiarism was exposed. The genesis of the policy that led to her hiring can be found in a 1968 memo that then-Xerox CEO Joseph C. Wilson wrote in which he directed his hiring managers to hire underqualified and outright unqualified minorities in the name of “diversity.” Using Claudine Gay’s example as a case study, we can now clearly see the dismal fruit of this well-intentioned but sadly naive policy.

A federal judge has ordered Enell Energy to remove an 84-turbine wind farm in Osage County, with a final ruling that ends more than a decade of litigation over illegal mining on the Osage Reservation. Is electricity a source of energy? Most people will answer yes, which is incorrect. Electricity carries energy but it is not itself a source of energy, which in the U.S. is supplied 60% by natural gas and coal, 18% nuclear and 22% renewables (hydro, solar and wind). The related question is whether cars are a major consumer of energy and hence a significant contributor of Co2 emissions? Again, most people believe both statements are self-evidently true, hence the importance of moving to electric cars. In fact, cars (light-duty transportation) account for less than 5% of global energy demand, with U.S. cars accounting for 19% of the global car fleet,

For a long time now, the debate has raged as to whether it’s worth going to college anymore. The libertarian view on this question has typically been along the lines of… if people are foolish enough to waste money on worthless degrees, the world will soon enough teach them another lesson. While valid, that view ran aground on the Democrat vote-buying scheme to insulate those with useless degrees from the consequences of their poor choices and indebtedness, with our tax money. The cynical motives behind this ploy aside, I very much doubt many students enroll in college with the intention of eventually being bailed out by their fellow citizens.

Why is it easier to find lies in the media about “climate change” than truthful information? Why is honest reporting on the environment an outlier instead of a rule? Media parrots have said for decades that humans, and our use of natural resources are killing the planet, and that oceans, species, and forests are dying. They report on future predictions, but rarely on scientific facts—so I thought I would fill the vacuum. We have been told that we are responsible for irredeemable destruction in the Great Barrier Reef, but that is not true. The reef is making a “comeback,” yet we don’t see that story

It was once a commonsense belief and universal truth that men and women, boys and girls, are different, especially in the realm of athletics. With rare exceptions, men and women compete in their own categories, from high school level through college to the Olympic games and professional sports. Mixed competitions place women and men on the same team, such as mixed doubles in tennis, or dancing, either in the ballroom, or on ice. Equestrian sports are an exception, but the fact that a horse is a major part of the sport reduces the sex difference between competitors.

Presidential candidate Nikki Haley, like most of us, doesn’t like chaos. She’d prefer that America be an orderly, law-abiding, harmonious nation. Unfortunately, that is no longer the America in which we live. But in her condemnation of “chaos,” Haley confuses correlation with causation, and is using our current turmoil to attack Donald Trump. At a campaign stop in Bluffton, South Carolina, she said: I agree with a lot of his policies, but the truth is, rightly or wrongly, chaos follows him (Trump). We have too much division in this country, and too many threats around the world to be sitting in chaos once again.
