Jesus is not our mom

Two thousand years ago, a carpenter lived a conventional life for 30 years in a tiny village in the Middle East. Then something got into him. He became, as they might say today, “radicalized” for the last three years of his short life. Historians agree that Jesus did exist. There are reliable ancient records of him. But most of what we know are opaque and contradictory accounts written decades after his death in what we now call the Gospel of the New Testament. In one sense, those Gospel accounts are profoundly simple. They say Jesus was the Messiah prophesized in the Hebrew Bible.

Beaton's not likely to launch a new religious revival with this; but we've all probably encountered less worthwhile exegesis from certified scripture scholars. I'm grateful to Glenn for the thoughtful reflection. Pretty good seasonal grist for the mill...

Writings about Jesus may not be accurate and were subject to changes by anyone that wanted to change them as there were no copywrite laws in place anywhere. Scriptures could have been changed by those writing scriptures and as a result there are many different versions of the Bible. Somalia has three more chapters in the Bible that other Bibles. Josephus wrote about Jesus and he was an accurate historian. A person named Jesus did exist but all of his life is not recorded. The statement 'for years the line 'a carpenter lived a conventional life for 39 years' may ntot be accurate. How does the writer know this, where's the proof.

The Roman Centurion was there to carry out the crucifixions ordered for that day. However that day, the Centurion would be forever changed by what he saw and heard. The Centurion saw his soldiers casting lots for the very fine robe that Jesus had been given prior to his departure to Golgotha for execution. Little did any of them know, that they fulfilled a Prophecy recorded in Psalms.. And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots; (Mt 27:35) They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. (Ps 22:18) The Centurion witnessed a supernatural darkness encompassing Jesus during the second three hours, while He was bearing our sins. During that time He cried out to the Holy Trinity, asking why They had forsaken Him. For the first and only time in all of Time, the Trinity was unable to have Fellowship with each other, because the sins of mankind were being judged in Jesus’ body. The perfect Lamb of God, without spot or blemish, was being sacrificed on our behalf. This Roman Officer also witnessed: And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook; and the rocks were split, and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many. Now the Centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Mt 27:50-54) The Temple Veil was over sixty feet high and over 4 inches thick, so tightly woven that a sword swung by the mightiest soldier could not penetrate it, yet there it was, cleanly torn from top to bottom as the Roman short sword against parchment.

For those who don’t know Jesus here is the simplest way possible to learn. Read the 4 Gospels and Acts. Read them out loud and by your self. No tv no radio and no phone. If you do that I promise God will make Himself known to you.

FTA: "Christ’s unpredictability and contradictions confuse me..." Speak for yourself, Beaton. Those of us who have read the Gospels more times than you apparently have would disagree. He's been off the rails more often than not, lately, but this wasn't too bad.by his rapidly declining standards.

Yes, #7, it's coming back to me. This article ran a year or so ago, and the thread here became a little vituperative. I seem to recall it focused on the so-called contradictions in the Gospels, which I believe can be explained, and IMHO only add to their credibility. If the four Gospels were carbon copies of each other, the authors would be accused of collusion and plagiarism. You can't have it both ways. Jesus Christ is Lord, and is coming again soon.

The Colorado Supreme Court yesterday decided that Donald Trump “engaged in an insurrection or rebellion” on or about Jan. 6, 2021. Under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, he is therefore ineligible for the presidency and would be removed from the Colorado ballot. A few points to consider: The Court on its own volition stayed its order until Jan. 4 to give Trump an opportunity to appeal the case to the real Supreme Court, the United States one. If he does so, and he will, and the Supreme Court decides to hear the case, and they will, then the order is further stayed until

Harvard’s president, Claudine Gay, has been in the news for her reprehensible testimony to Congress declaring that chanting for the genocide of the Jews might or might not violate Harvard’s speech policies “depending on the context.” That testimony has been rightly condemned by all decent people. Her atrocious testimony and the condemnation it deserved has, however, distracted from a separate academic scandal. She’s a plagiarist and perhaps a copyright infringer. In her Ph.D. thesis (in political “science” naturally) Gay copied multiple times from other sources, often verbatim, without using quotation marks or attribution. In short, she presented the work and words of others as her own.

A guy named Joachim Neander lived in a German valley about 400 years ago. He was a bigwig in the valley, and it came to be called “Neander’s Valley” or, in German, “Neanderhohle.” The name evolved with the language, and it morphed into “Neandertal” or “Neanderthal.” (Pseudo-linguists still debate which is right.) In a weird coincidence, the Neanderthal Valley is where they first discovered fossilized remains of an ancient human called “Neanderthal.” (What are the odds of that?) The fossils suggested that this particular Neanderthal was no ordinary human. He/she/they/it was very sturdy. The people who found him decided he was brute, in a bad way. He became the prototypical caveman.

Everyone has read the reports by now. On Oct. 7, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza called Hamas launched a surprise invasion of Israel. They shot, tortured, raped, beheaded and abducted every Jew they could find. Most were women, children and babies. Over 1,200 Jews died, and countless more were injured. It was a Jewish pogrom, right out of the Middle Ages. The perpetrators filmed their gruesome bloodbath and gleefully posted it on the internet. Hamas also took about 200 hostages back to the underground tunnels of Gaza, where they’ve been using them as human shields, trading them for Hamas terrorists captured by Israel, and torturing them to death.

I don’t mean women are just as good as men at lawyering. I mean they’re better. Let me explain. But first a story. I have a distant connection to recently deceased former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. O’Connor grew up on an Arizona cattle ranch. Her home was nine miles from the nearest paved road and didn’t have running water or electricity until she was seven. She was very smart. At age 16, she left the ranch and went to Stanford to earn a degree in Economics. In 1952, she graduated third in her class from Stanford Law School. Americans are reproducing at a rate that is too low to replace themselves. At this rate, Americans will go extinct. It’s like the situation in Italy where Catholics have become so adept at violating the Church’s prohibitions on birth control that they’ll be gone soon. I figure the only way to save Italy for the Italians is for the Church to permit – nay, mandate – birth control. If there’s one thing Catholics have learned over 2,000 years, it’s that their highest spiritual calling is to disobey their infallible-ish Pope. Only if the shepherd requires birth control will his flock

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a Supreme Court Justice and a darling of the left. She was endearingly referred to as “Notorious RBG” for her strident opinions invariably siding with the Democrats on political issues. But she grew old. She also grew feeble physically and, sadly, to some extent mentally as well. She started breaking Court tradition by giving television interviews, where she unfortunately spoke intemperately about political issues. Shortly before the 2016 election, she told a reporter that Donald Trump was “a faker.” And then she said something to the reporter that apparently came into her head at that moment because she really had an ego.

Back in my day, cheerleaders were hot and gorgeous, at least at the University of Colorado/Boulder where I watched them. They were the best-looking girls on campus, and that was saying a lot at the time in Boulder. After I graduated and left Boulder, they were evidently unable to attract the same quality without me. In fact, they resorted to male cheerleaders. There were sniggers that the male cheerleaders were probably a bit light-footed, if you know what I mean. That was before light-footedness, if you know what I mean, became the Next Big Thing. But male cheerleaders mostly faded away over the years. We see few male cheerleaders now.
