Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) is putting together legislation to require the U.S. military to adhere to state-level red and yellow flag laws for troops.
A red flag law allows family, friends, and others, to seek a court order to have guns removed from someone they view as a danger to himself or others. A yellow flag law is more narrow, allowing law enforcement to seek the court order for firearm removal.Collins bill comes in response to the October 25, 2023, Lewiston, Maine, attacks, which were carried out by a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. The attacker used a sniper rifle which was legally purchased.

Plenty of laws in place to deal with the likes of the recent Maine shooter. They weren't enforced. Susan Collins in politicking.

The woman is certifiable and needs to be put away for her own safety. What is wrong with the folks in Maine? Have they lost all sense of reason when they keep electing this so called 'Republican"?

Missing in her thought process is....military called local cops to carry him to a Military hospital for psych eval. After the eval they tried to hold him....BUT state and federal law make it nearly impossible to hold someone even AFTER they have harmed themselves and others if they decline/refuse treatment. Rather than pass any "firearm" specific laws, take a look at the lack of "Common sense Crazy control" Laws, many mass shootings, smaller shootings, stabbings, assaults, with and without weapons, some in vehicles...some in subways, on busses, on public streets, in private homes were/are all committed by people that SHOULD have been "committed" instead...On top of which, those same wackos are allowed to escape, punishment/prison, sometimes even trial because they are "Unfit" to even prosecute.

Military bases (outside of war zones) are already among the most weapons restricted places on earth as it is. At least when I was in, you had to store your personal weapons in the company (or battalion) armory, and only check it out from the Armorer for a specific time and for use in a specific place. And your Company Commander could forbid you from having a personal weapon if he thought you were dangerous or stupid..
And Issued weapons could only be carried when the unit is under orders to do so and under supervision. (Exceptions being Military Police Officers and non-MP soldiers detailed as prisoner escort or on secure facility guard duty. Other than that, while on base, regular soldiers are about as disarmed as you can get. (To the delight of people like Jihadist Major Hassan)
So, Susan, you idiot, the Military doesn't need your stinking new laws., and what Card, the National Guardsman, did, he did as a civilian, under civilian laws.

Dangerously insane doesn't quit capture what our representatives think up to do to us. This alone should disqualify her from ANY government position.
Does she have exclusions for muslims in the military?

No more "feel good" guns laws; they simply don't work. The law this country desperately needs is term limits.

A "sniper rifle."
More scare words.
It wasn't a sniper rifle.
It was an AR chambered in .308.

Oh, and the rifle he used is not really a "Sniper Rifle"... It is a small frame sport/utility rifle. Basically it is an AR-15 with the action lengthened by about 10MM so that it can run .308 length cartridges.

The all too predictable strikes again just in time for Christmas. Her membership in the U.S. Senate is far more hazardous to the life and health of this nation and its citizens than service members owning firearms. BTW, what she is authoring seems like it will, in effect, give states jurisdiction on federal territory.

- collins, murkowski, romney, mcconnell, cornyn, thune, cassidy, graham and others are examples of such people

What is Collins doing, challenging Doctor Jill for the title of Craziest Dingbat in Washington? There is a lot of competition for that award.
