Former Chicago Alderman Ed Burke, one of the most powerful and longest-serving politicians in the Windy City, was found guilty Thursday of racketeering, bribery and attempted extortion after a six-week-long federal corruption trial.
The 79-year-old Democrat was convicted on 13 of the 14 charges leveled against him in a 2019 federal indictment accusing the veteran Chicago City Council member of using his position to steer business from private developers to his law firm. Prosecutors also alleged that Burke threatened to block a measure raising admission fees at Chicago’s famed Field Museum over its failure to grant an internship to the daughter of a former alderman, whom he had recommended.

"He left the courthouse with his wife, retired Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Anne Burke"
But I'm sure that she knew nothing about it - sitting on the Illinois SCOTUS and all...

I do wonder why the dims would allow one of their own to be charged. Just no one of sufficient power who cared enough to protect him? Or he had enemies in the justice system?

Walked out of the courthouse after conviction? Must be a dem. 110 years? My bet is 110 hours of community service, if he publicly forgives his accusers

Not surprised at all. Chicago has been run by gangsters for the last 100 years.

Wow! A legendary Murderville grafter. Must have annoyed Ozero. Or just outlived his usefulness.

Truth be told the Democrat Party is probably the largest Organized Crime organizations on the planet. If there truly justice in this country you could prosecute and incarcerate just about every professional Democrat for one crime or another.

This is the tip of the iceberg, not just in Chicago, but nationwide. If you thought prisons were already overflowing, construction of new ones would never end if all the crooked demonrats and rinos actually faced consequences for their actions. Of course, all the corruptocrats have prison/work camps planned for anyone who is against them.

Yes, but what did he do to get charged? I see nothing illegal. (I'm from Illinois BTW)

You occasionally have to make an example of someone. Especially in an election year.
Like in the 1974 move "The Front Page" (also set in Chicago), when visiting the city jail, the Mayor wondered why all the women from a local whorehouse were locked up. The sheriff said, "Well, we always knock over one of the houses in an election year!" And all the girls were greeting the Mayor since they ALL seemed to know him.

Poster #6, the democrat party is the most corrupt organization in the history of our country. It's a criminal enterprise masquerading as a political party.

Democrats cornered the market on breaking the law. They are all indoctrinated, loyal servants to Lucifer.

A democrat but certainly not democratic. Once the democrats and the labor unions discovered each other in cities like Chicago, crime and graft became a way of life. Unfortunately for them, both entities are ending in total failure.

It's Chicago, which has had a reputation for corruption as far back as its formation as a city.

Notice he's a former Alderman (they run their district like their own fiefdom, and nothing happens in their district without them knowing about it either), so his usefulness had expired.
The corruption is known and tolerated so long as enough people are in on the schemes to continue electing them.
It's the poor chumps who don't have a City job or a City contract who are the suckers for continually voting for them.

For 50 or more years Chicago has been at the pinnacle of corruption. Dead voters, Contractor pay-off's, copy machine ballots, City Council member become millionaires...etc. He is one of hundreds. Illinois only slightly more Democratic than North Korea.

Like in the third world, the democrats don't allow free and clear elections, they prefer the occasional overthrow.
