JD Vance: Ohio’s abortion vote ‘was
a gut punch’

On other Ohio abortion article threads posted today, a considerable number of Ldotters have been highly critical of Ohioans for voting to enshrine the morally unacceptable abortion amendment into the state’s constitution and have unfairly referred to Ohio as a hellhole (a place of extreme wretchedness or squalor; the pit of hell; a place of intense hatred, misery, or turmoil) which is an insult to pro-life individuals who became victims of the vast sums of out-of-state money that predominated television and social media “...with blatantly false commercials that further angered liberal voters and drove them to the polls in higher numbers.” Add to that an increase in a liberal voter turnout to legalize marijuana in the state, most of whom would likely vote for abortion. Herein is extended an invitation to those naysayers to cite examples of “hellhole” conditions in Ohio. Ohio has a history of eight United States Presidents; schools “consistently ranking in the top 50 nationally of the U. S. News & World Report of liberal arts colleges”; ranks “in the top 100 of national research universities”; is “home to some of the nation’s highest-ranked public libraries” (in 2008, 31 of Ohio’s library systems were all ranked in the top ten for American cities of their population category). Further, numerous cultural, medical, research/science facilities and sports teams (college and professional) exist within the state that are highly regarded locally as well as nationally.

Reported on 4/7/2023 "A 30-year-old Ohio man has been indicted by a grand jury for the stabbing murder of his pregnant 23-year-old partner, Alicia Rosa, and her unborn baby. Jimmy David Cole, who police believe to be the father of the unborn child, faces three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence." Now, what I want to know is how it is possible that a man is charged with the double murder of a pregnant woman and her unborn son but that same woman could go AT ANY POINT during her pregnancy and kill the exact same unborn son (who obviously was deemed a human who can be indeed murdered by the courts) without a word being said or any laws being broken? The death dealer Democrats and their evil, greedy, selfish followers completely repulse me.

Very depressing that there was no limit on abortion. Then, sex changes on children without parent notification or consent? And marijuana legal. Wow! I am out of step with things happening in this country.

I'm from Minnesota, and it tears me up also to see that Ohio on these issues has joined my state in its evil path. It also is discouraging to read comments about how my whole state should be condemned for allowing/promoting such degradation. In many cases, the issues are framed by the values of the urban VS rural. I wish there was some constitutional correction that could be made - patterned after the Founding Fathers' "Great Compromise" (the House of Reps based on population; the Senate has equal number of votes for each state) - a way of keeping the cities from running roughshod over the more conservative values of the rural folk. Our governor is very liberal, incompetent, and evil - yet in both of his elections he's gotten only about 10 of the state's 87 counties -- because he overwhelmingly is chosen by the major cities. And it's the major cities that have the highest percentage of people on government assistance, have the liberal universities, the least well-educated, and are home to large media outlets that mainly report in a biased fashion.

#4 - We have the same problem here in California. The big population concentrations around San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco are heavily democrat and outvote the whole rest of the state. It would be nice if out-of-state college students could be deemed ineligible to vote. Maybe raise the voting age back to 21, unless the person is currently serving in the military.

#4,#5~ Thank you for the gracious comment; reciprocal for #4 and #5. / Both posts present valid factors influencing election outcomes that include population concentrations, government assistance recipients, and colleges/universities that may translate to liberal students. Oberlin College (a bastion of liberalism): During the 2008 U. S. Presidential election between candidates John McCain and Barack Obama, “A caravan of seven buses took Oberlin College students to the polls for early voting as part of a concerted effort by college officials to encourage students to vote. About 1,200 students (took) advantage of the free bus service” to the County Board of Elections according a spokesman for the college. The college paid for the bus service. Oberlin College (as of 2019) had a student enrollment of 2,785; Undated Enrollment Statistics: Ohio State University 61,677; Kent State University 26,597; Ohio University 24,797. There is legitimate concern about college students casting absentee ballots in their home state, as well as casting ballots in states where they may be enrolled in college; are students casting votes in two states? Perhaps “...raising the voting age back to 21 unless serving in the military” needs to be a serious consideration. Another legitimate concern is government-assisted recipients casting votes for issues that impact taxation of property owners for issues such as public school levies. Without question, as evidenced by passage of the abhorrent abortion amendment in Ohio, out-of-state monies have a profound impact and it may be time for legislative action imposing restrictions or rendering out-of-state contributions illegal.

Has everyone forgotten that the vast majority of Americans support limitations on abortion? Fifteen weeks, parental consent requirements for minors, etc. all have majority support! The problem is that these same Americans simply fail to investigate the lies spread by the democrat-media monopoly and simply buy the false narrative the republicans are trying to "ban" abortion. Ohioans may be decent people, but they are as gullible a bunch of rubes as anyone. Why do you thin that "The Music Man" was set in a small town in the American Midwest? Professor Harold Hill had nothing on contemporary democrats when it comes to swindling, lying and cheating.

Agree with 1. Bad people do not make a state bad. Wrong thinking, and evil hearts make bad people. Ohio is a fine state.
