House speaker Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) turned down Volodymyr Zelensky’s request to publicly address both chambers of Congress during the Ukrainian president’s visit to Washington, D.C., on Thursday.
“Zelensky asked for a joint session, we just didn’t have time. He’s already given a joint session,” McCarthy told reporters, referring to the congressional joint session Zelensky gave in December. “This is a little busy week. We’re dealing with the funding issue. I don’t know he we can slip that in at such a short time.”

Boston University said it is conducting an “inquiry” into celebrity author Ibram X. Kendi’s Center for Antiracist Research after receiving complaints about the center’s culture and grant management.
The announcement trails news of recent layoffs at the center, which launched in June 2020 amid the racial justice protests that followed the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.
The center’s stated mission is to “convene varied researchers and practitioners to foster exhaustive racial data collection, research-based policy innovation, solutions-focused narrative change initiatives, and practical advocacy campaigns.”

President Biden leads Donald Trump by six points in a potential 2024 election matchup if the former president ends up convicted of any of the four felony indictments levied against him, a new poll shows.
Biden, 80, would prevail by a margin of 45% to 39% over Trump, 77, in the event of a post-conviction ballot, according to a WPA Intelligence survey exclusively shared with The Post. If the former president is not convicted on any counts, Biden would still hold a slight lead over Trump in the general election — garnering 43% of voters support compared to Trump’s 41% and 11% of voters undecided.

The Biden administration announced Wednesday that it will grant temporary legal status to nearly half-a-million illegal immigrants from Venezuela so they can pursue work, citing political instability in their home country.
The Homeland Security Department announced the extension and redesignation of Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, allowing 472,000 migrants who had arrived in the country as of July 31 to remain legally and work. The move was green-lighted by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Venezuelan migrants have accounted for a large portion of those who have crossed the border from Latin America in recent years.

In response to the racism inherent in Critical Race Theory (“CRT”)—i.e., that blacks are victims and whites are evil—18 states have passed laws prohibiting schools from engaging in race-based teaching. South Carolina was one of those states and, according to a laugh-out-loud funny article in the Washington Post, the law is working. Incidentally, the article isn’t intended to be funny. It is, instead, intended to be a heartrending human interest story about a martyred leftist female teacher who violated the law and got caught.
In its general appropriations bill for 2021-2022, the South Carolina legislature, for the first time, inserted a specific clause aimed at blocking leftist-style racism

There are a couple of indications this week that Disney has had enough of the culture wars and will be taking it down a notch. First up, a report today about something said by CEO Bob Iger:
Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors the company will “quiet the noise” in a culture war that has pitted social conservatives against the global media and entertainment conglomerate, according to an analyst note on Wednesday.
Iger’s brief statement, included in an analyst report from Needham media analyst Laura Martin, was part of an investors’ presentation on Tuesday at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida…
I can’t move on without noting this truly terrible

New York City police arrested ten people on Staten Island on Tuesday after a resident-led protest involving a blockade of a migrant bus drop-off escalated into a skirmish with officers.
During the protest, people attempted to block a bus carrying illegal immigrants from arriving at the former Midland Beach assisted-living facility, which was recently converted into a migrant shelter, video of the protest shows. Dozens of officers arrived and put several people in handcuffs, the video shows.
Police confirmed Wednesday that ten people were taken into custody. Nine of them were issued summonses for disorderly conduct.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is set to host a special climate summit Wednesday noted more for the missing leaders and emissaries of the world’s most advanced economies than those in attendance.
Guterres has enthusiastically billed the “Climate Ambition Summit” as a “no nonsense” forum where leaders or cabinet ministers will announce specific actions that deliver on their commitments under the Paris Agreement.
It comes two months after he issued a cataclysmic warning “the era of global boiling is here” as Breitbart News reported. Trouble is, the event is diminished because few of the leaders of the world’s most advanced economies will attend or send representatives, AFP reports.

LOS ANGELES — ABC will be airing more “Monday Night Football” games than originally planned.
An additional 10 games originally set to appear only on ESPN will be simulcast on ABC. The additional games will be on network television because of the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents Disney, Netflix, Amazon and others.
The strikes, which have been going on for months, have delayed most of the upcoming fall television season.
When the NFL schedule was announced in May, ABC had four exclusive regular-season games

Remember James Clapper and John Brennan? It's easy to forget given how much has transpired since both men consistently led the news throughout the Trump administration. At one time, though, their involvement in Crossfire Hurricane, otherwise known as the Russia collusion investigation was really big news.
For those less initiated, here's a quick refresher. Clapper was Barack Obama's DNI and has been credibly accused of lying to Congress. Meanwhile, Brennan is Obama's former CIA Director and has been credibly accused of doing the same. Both men lived on cable news after Trump's inauguration, making all kinds of wild, unsubstantiated claims related to nefarious Russian collusion supposedly committed by

Buried within spending provisions that passed in 2022 is a little-known program that has come to light and is raising eyebrows.
According to reports, journalists who get "harassed" online can seek taxpayer-funded counseling and other services as part of a program that seeks to fight "misinformation." No, I'm not making that up. Your hard-earned tax dollars are going to soothe the souls of aggrieved journalists who get trolled online so they can return to doing the regime's bidding.
The Biden administration has approved $5.7 million in grant funding to George Washington University to create a program that will provide psychological care to journalists who believe they are the targets
