Israel will have partial laser defenses by this time next year, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems chairman Yuval Steinitz told Army Radio on Sunday. "One year from now – Israel will be the first country to have partial laser protection. In two years there may be complete protection – against missiles, shells, rockets, or anything else. This will protect us both in the South and in the North," said Steinitz. Israel's push for laser air defenses This past February, senior Defense Ministry official Brig.-Gen. (res.) If we had these defenses, it would be a snap to shoot down Chicom spy balloons.

A number of prototypes and pre-production field test laser antiaircraft/antimissile units have been built and fielded in the USA. I hope that the Israelis are successful. But, energy projection at a distance has a some serious limitations that are built into fundamental physics, so not easily avoided. Star Wars weapons are not like current level of lasers. On a cloud-free day, with minimal dust in the air, at modest ranges, for unarmored targets.....there have been some good results, although unlike a direct impact with a bullet or shell, lasers typically require a significant "dwell time" while the beam stays on the same place on a rapidly moving target. Some units require 3-10 seconds to burn through the outer shell. But, laser energy levels have been increasing and more energy increases the speed of damage. It will be very interesting to see how effective this will be.

The Iranian version of their god, Allah, always seems to be on vacation or otherwise occupied when Israel booms economically or develops new systems for defense. Allah seems to be stuck in the 9th century, maybe that is the reason.

Considering the number of ballistic missiles the Palestinians keep lobbing into Israel, the Iron Dome defense system gets hideously expensive to keep up. A directed energy defense system would be far cheaper, and in theory better. But Israel will need many many batteries of lasers.

The FBI recently warned consumers against using free public charging stations, saying crooks have managed to hijack public chargers that can infect devices with malware, or software that can give hackers access to your phone, tablet or computer. “Avoid using free charging stations in airports, hotels or shopping centers,” a tweet from the FBI’s Denver field office said. “Bad actors have figured out ways to use public USB ports to introduce malware and monitoring software onto devices. Carry your own charger and USB cord and use an electrical outlet instead.” The FBI offers similar guidance on its website to avoid

A Chinese state-run newspaper issued a warning to Tesla CEO Elon Musk after he shared reporting on the U.S. Department of Energy’s “low confidence” assessment that the global Covid pandemic originated in a Wuhan laboratory. CNBC’s Eunice Yoon reported Tuesday morning on the warning from the social media pages of the Global Times, the English-language subsidiary of the government-controlled People’s Daily. The Global Times warned Musk that he could be “breaking the pot of China” after the Tesla and Twitter CEO responded to tweets that asserted that the Covid pandemic originated in a Wuhan research laboratory.

A study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) on Monday points to a significant change in the proportion of the Canadian population with SARS-CoV-2 antibodies over the first two and a half years of the pandemic and the probability that exposure to both vaccination and infection provides the most durable immunity. The study, conducted by the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and involving almost 14,000 people, provides a clear view of the changing antibody landscape during the pandemic, and its findings hold implications for pandemic risk assessment and response, according to the authors.

U.S. lawmakers have been under the microscope lately for trading stocks in companies where they or their staff members might have some inside knowledge. The rules for buying and selling stocks were strengthened for Congress in 2012 by the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act. Developing rules about Congress members trading stocks is an ongoing process. The Bipartisan Ban on Congressional Stock Ownership Act of 2022 was introduced in February by Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Steve Daines (R-Mont.), as well as Representatives Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.).

Joe Biden took office promising the most diverse presidential administration in history. Not cohesive, not experienced, and certainly not competent, but definitely diverse. We’re all familiar with Biden’s biggest hits in the diversity game, starting with his vice president, Kamala Harris. The former California senator couldn’t get her own presidential campaign off the ground in 2019, even after she attacked her future boss for being a segregationist at heart. But Biden was determined to make a woman of color the next vice president of the United States, and lucky Kamala was in the right place at the right time. There’s also

Facebook settled claims that it refused to recruit or hire U.S. workers for positions it set aside for temporary visa holders, the Department of Justice announced Tuesday. It also entered a separate settlement with the Department of Labor over potential recruitment violations through a program that makes jobs available to temporary visa holders. Under the program, companies must make good-faith efforts to recruit U.S. workers for the roles. The DOJ settlement stems from a complaint filed under the Trump administration in December 2020, claiming Facebook discriminated against U.S. workers by reserving certain posts for temporary visa holders from at least

Donald Trump had an incredible legacy as president, but sometimes he can be his own worst enemy. More broadly, as the leader of the Republican Party, he’s ensuring that his self-inflicted wounds damage not only his own (presumed) electoral chances but those of other Republicans as well. Clearly, Trump has yet to get over the fact that he is not the one currently sitting in the White House following the 2020 election. It’s true that millions of Americans wish he were currently the president, enacting policies to make America great. But as they say, if wishes were horses, then

In a recently published article titled “The Lab-Leak Theory: Inside the Fight to Uncover COVID-19’s Origins,” investigative journalist Katherine Eban details how individuals within the U.S. State Department sought to suppress any notion of the coronavirus having originated in a lab in Wuhan, China. Needless to say, the evidence presented of an intentional cover-up by deep state actors (and a complicit Leftmedia) is both compelling and deeply troubling. This scandal exposes the reality that political considerations motivated individuals within the State Department to hide the facts from the American people. Eban writes: Interviews with more than 40 people, and a

Here we go again— the Biden Administration has plans to roll out a new COVID-19 vaccine this fall, requiring Americans to get another jab. Despite declaring earlier this year that COVID is no longer a threat, President Joe Biden said his administration will "likely" recommend that all Americans receive the updated booster, including children. Over the weekend, the president told reporters that he plans to ask Congress for additional funds to develop a new vaccine, adding that he may force everyone to take it whether they previously received the initial vaccine. "Yes, I can," Biden said.

Rome—Pope Francis has blasted the “backwardness” of some conservatives in the U.S. Catholic Church, saying they have replaced faith with ideology and that a correct understanding of Catholic doctrine allows for change over time. Francis’ comments were an acknowledgment of the divisions in the U.S. Catholic Church, which has been split between progressives and conservatives who long found support in the doctrinaire papacies of St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI, particularly on issues of abortion and same-sex marriage. Many conservatives have blasted Francis’ emphasis instead on social justice issues such as the environment and the poor, while also branding as heretical his opening to letting divorced and civilly remarried

Pope Francis said there is a “very strong, organized, reactionary attitude” in the U.S. Catholic church, that is “backwards” and has led the church to replace faith with “ideology,” according to a new transcript of the comments released Monday. The remarks came during a private meeting with Portuguese members of his Jesuit religious order during a visit to Lisbon on August 5, per a transcript of the meeting published by the Jesuit journal La Civilta Cattolica. A Portuguese Jesuit told Francis that he struggled during a recent sabbatical year in the U.S. after coming across many Catholics, including bishops, who were critical of Francis’s papacy and today’s Jesuits, at which point

The Republican primary debate charade, hosted by a hapless Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, revealed two things: Vivek Ramaswamy is a rising star, and Donald Trump dominated as the elephant not in the room. The Democrats and the media run a constant clown show, but the Republicans play along as useless puppets, willfully participating in a system designed to destroy them. The Republican party is allowing itself to be rigged by playing by the rules of an old system that no longer exists. The Democrats, bureaucracy, and media are vicious apparatchiks. They are a dirty and obvious enemy who clearly need to be fought.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has demanded that taxpayers in the United States and European Union send the country even more aid if the West wishes for elections to be held next year. In an interview published by the president’s office on Sunday evening, Zelensky said that he would be willing to hold elections despite the ongoing martial law amid the war with Russia, so long as the U.S. and EU bankroll the voting process. The Ukrainian leader said that elections during peacetime typically cost around 5 billion hryvnia ($135 million) but did not speculate as to how much more they would cost during a war, though presumably it would be much higher.
