Portland's Predictable Doom Loop

Original Article

The people elected and selected to run Portland, Oregon, are like kids who get their first car and never think to change the oil. The city is led by a cadre of ardent leftists who thought they could just rev the engine, ignore maintenance, and see the city magically run itself. Instead, they’ve driven the City of Roses into a Doom Loop. At one time not so long ago, Portland leaders turned the sleepy town into a progressive hub for the creative class, spending billions on 19th-century light rail Choo Choo trains to convey bus riders to their planned utopia. The more the plans failed, the more the planners planned,

You know that nothing good is going to come out of a 'blue ribbon' panel. The people who created the disaster should not be allowed a say in fixing it. You want your city back? Get the police back and turn them loose....enforce the law hard, and if the usual military arms of the Commucrat party show up, you put them down like the rabid dogs they are. This situation will not be solved with kind words and good thoughts.

It's ChiCom Management style. Complete with their own Red Guard, Antifa. Not rocket science. Like San Francisco, Portland is doomed. Seattle may be next. NYC and DC aren't far behind.

Choo choo trains! Lol. Major fixed capital investment that requires stability along its fixed lines to be of value. The Portland transit system shows decreasing in the years well before covid (tho COVID’s losses are exceptional), Whatever was going wrong in those earlier years should have been caught and fixed

We don't hear as much about the current misery in Portland and Seattle but rest assured that conditions are as bad as they are in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, LA, you know the rest of the list. It can't be fixed by a normal process of restoration, the pendulum must first swing the other way, mush-heads must be broken.

Wow! That quote at the end: ...“loans secured during the last real estate boom, marked by low-interest rates, are now reaching maturity and their value has diminished while interest rates have surged, creating an unfavorable environment for refinancing.” This is everywhere. It is making it impractical to pull equity for improvements and reinvestment. Not just a Woke City decay problem.

My daughter and a friend moved down to Colorado Springs this past June. They had been considering Portland or Seattle (friend's choice). I counseled them to choose Colorado, and though it isn't the best, most sane state to live, it is soooooo much better than the other two places. I have some peace of mind for their safety now.

In the early '80s, and in my late '20s, I lived in Vancouver WA just across the Columbia river from Portland. It was a pretty city then. I remember one Saturday night I had nothing to do and the radio announced that Gallagher still had tickets available to his show in downtown Portland. I had no qualms driving downtown at night, parking and going to the theater alone. (By the way, even in the balcony it was a great show...and splatter free!) Portland was established Hippie-dom and a New Age Haven back then; very laid back and everything was cool, man. On the other hand, I wasn't surprised when I learned Tanya Harding was from southeast Portland, just sayin'. Like every town, it has always had its dark side. I had moved on long before the Left really took hold and Antifa showed up. Just like my hometown of Los Angeles, the home of my great uncle and aunt in Seattle, the city of my region San Francisco; the ravenous evil of totalitarian ideals has destroyed another west coast city with my once near-home of Portland. I must admit the Left have finally educated me. I now understand...the personal is political. MAGA REVENGE - TRUMP 2024

Why Young Americans Are Not Taught About Evil 15 replies

Most of our schools teach almost nothing of importance, and nothing is more important than the study of good and evil. In the United States today, nearly all schools, from elementary through graduate, concentrate on teaching about racism, sexism, preferred pronouns, homophobia, transphobia, LGBTQIA+, climate change, diversity, equity, inclusiveness and white guilt. In other words, most of our educational institutions, including the most prestigious, do not educate. Here are a few proofs. It is almost certain that the great majority of American high school and college students

No Tricks Zone publishes a summary of an article by Dr. Klaus-Dieter Döhler, a natural scientist and environmentalist, and Josef Kowatsch, a nature conservationist, that criticizes the global warming industry in Germany. Their criticisms apply equally to that industry in the U.S. The authors point out that reality has refuted the tricked-up models that are the only basis for global warming hysteria: They write: The business model “global warming” is mainly corrupt and is run by paid scientists and organizations and is headed by a super rich group of billionaires. Their aim is not to protect the climate, but to generate funds for themselves and their dubious machinations.

When it comes to guns, the Second Amendment, gun control, and all that it entails, the most common denominator is the Nationa Rifle Association of America. The NRA was established on November 17, 1871, with the mission of advancing rifle marksmanship, firearm safety, and competency. They claim to be the oldest civil rights organization in America, older even than the ACLU. I, for one, am a Life Member of the NRA because they do perform and support great services like marksmanship training and standards, amongst many others. I also have certifications as a Range Safety Officer, as well as a rifle, pistol, and shotgun instructor.

Florida lawyer Lawrence Caplan filed a challenge in federal court earlier this week, arguing that former President Donald Trump cannot run for president because of the 14th Amendment. Caplan pointed to a clause in the amendment that says those who “have engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the government cannot hold office. “The bottom line here is that President Trump both engaged in an insurrection and also gave aid and comfort to other individuals who were engaging in such actions, within the clear meaning of those terms as defined in Section Three of the 14th Amendment,” Caplan wrote in the filing,
