The number of congregations departing the United Methodist Church (UMC) exceeded 5,000 last week as the second-largest Protestant denomination in the U.S. continues to fracture over theological disagreements, mostly pertaining to human sexuality. The number of churches that have been given the green light by their annual conferences to disaffiliate increased from approximately 4,600 early last week to 5,321 as of Friday, according to UM News.
The number of churches leaving the UMC has surged in recent years, with approximately 2,000 congregations being approved to disaffiliate in 2022 and more than 3,000 this year.

I have several friends who are long time members of the local Methodist church. It voted to leave the United Methodist Church. Almost all the churches where I live are pretty traditional with the exception of the Unitarian/Universalist church.

Similarly, the Episcopal Church left me 50 years ago! Paedophile priests are to be detested not tolerated and celebrated!

The lovely little Methodist church where I grew up could not afford the cost to disassociate. A congregation of about 30 quite elderly people, there was just no way. They would have had to close the doors. They will soon anyway because there are no young people. Very sad. But issues like this is why I left the UMC 30 years ago and found a Bible-believing church.

Many of my Methodist friends have moved out of that denomination in the last few years because of the perversion of practice of following bedrock church doctrines being pushed away by social division.
Things are pretty clear that the Church is founded on the life of Jesus Christ, the four synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and supporting Scripture canonized in the writings of Paul with reliance on Scriptural support for teachings of John Wesley.
Like the unleavened bread used at the Last Supper, adding worldly beliefs into the teaching corrupts the integrity of the Church. The latest foray into homosexual/trans area (Deuteronomy 22:5-- A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God.") attempts to change Scripture to fit modern thought through perversion.
There are many people who are self-righteous who miss the personal relation of salvation of belief in the Almighty and seek to act on HIS behalf through hateful attitudes, and that kind of response is hurtful and misses the greatest Commandment to one another as God has loved us just as Christ loved the Church.
We may dislike others for their lifestyle, but this is just another evidence of the "falling away" we read about when studying the "End Times".
The Methodists are separating the sheep from the goats. Let them and their members make the decision.

The church I grew up in and the church my mother was the organist for over 28 years turned left years ago. It got to the point that I was arguing with the pastor under my breath during each sermon. It became impossible to listen to the ridiculous comments coming out of the mouth of the pastor and they were completely foreign to the people and area where the church was located.

Watching what is happening across the country/world...with the 'pride' movement, FBI infiltrating churches, the evil dominant in our politics, membership in churches of all dominations falling, how can we not realize we are in the End Times?
Best to get yourself right with God....

I saw this happen to the Episcopal Church with and Anglican schism. The Episcopal Church did not care at all. Their attendance was cut in half but the courts allowed them to retain high priced real estate and buildings and that’s all that mattered to them. They are on a downward spiral to oblivion but just don’t care.

The leftist UMC bishops caused this split. They wanted to override the Wesleyan Book of Discipline and biblical teachings and, when the vote went against what they wanted in 2019, put all sorts of financial roadblocks in place to keep the traditional churches from leaving. The North Georgia Bishop stopped disaffiliation when so many churches left. That’s in court now. It’s “their way or the highway “ and their arrogant disregard for traditional Methodist values.

Great news. The central Methodist church has been extreme, destructive, anti-Bible leftists for decades. It's a shame this has taken so long.

Lust of the eye, lust of the flesh, pride of life. These are the tools of satan as told in the temptation of the Garden of Eden. We are warned again in 1John2:16-17 “For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” Romans1:18-32 sums up where the UMC presently resides.

Since its beginning in the early 1960's, the UNITED Methodist Church has had difficulties. The REAL reason for defection of the traditional Methodist Church is that the marxist liberal Methodist Church does NOT believe that Jesus Christ died for our earthly sins. NO Jesus....NO sins....so anything goes! The homosexual agenda is a another rouse to call God-fearing people racists, homophobe, etc. GEEZE!

There are now two major Methodist denominations in the USA. The United Methodist Church and the Global Methodist Church. The number of Methodists is staying about the same.

I was raised in a Methodist church and went to a Methodist college. In my mid-twenties, the scales came off my eyes when I was invited to a Bible-believing church for movies about Revelation. I found a new faith... About 15 years ago, I had a phone conversation with the man who invited me to this church to thank him for directing my eternal destiny.
Now, my son has married a lady who was raised in a tiny Methodist church. They don't go to church but my fear is that they will consider this church to be their church home.

I'd say I left the Methodist Church decades ago, but the truth is it left me.
