WASHINGTON - A bill to suspend the U.S. government's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling and avert a disastrous default cleared a key procedural hurdle in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, setting the stage for an vote on the bipartisan debt deal itself. Republicans control the House by a narrow 222-213 majority. But the deal will need support from both Speaker Kevin McCarthy's Republicans and President Joe Biden's Democrats to pass, as members of both parties object to significant parts of the legislation. The procedural vote, which allows for the start of debate and then a vote on the bill itself, passed by a vote of 241-187

Why vote for a bill that takes away more from what you already have? There is nothing to lose by voting no, and more to gain.

They are the same party, both sides work for the same masters. Open your eyes. The whole debate was theater, the outcome was predetermined months ago. How do people not see this? The only good thing I see coming out of this is that at the useless federal employees didn't get a two week paid vacation this time around.

I just heard long interview on War Room - Bannon with Rep. Tim Burchett of great state of Tennessee. He was angry enough at the total incompetence of Kevin and “leadership” team that he told us the inside skinny. I hope many of you will go to Rumble or Frank Speech to listen. Kevin never barely asked for a darn thing. He never even tried to negotiate big from a position of strength. So the Democrats whittled THAT down so we got this utter humiliation. It has been an utter humiliation for a SOTH.

I don't see much reason to vote. If Trump wins nomination, the presidential election will be stolen. If Desantis gets it, they will most likely let him win the presidential but steal the Senate so it remains divided. Our govt is so corrupt and they are nearly all in on it.

It seems to me that ll this talk about 'Default' is Bovine Scatology. If the debt ceiling is not raised, it seems to me that the Federal government will simply be limited in it's spending to the money that it brings in. Just like if a person hits their credit card limit, if they pay it down $100, then they can charge $100 until it is back up to the limit. Increase this to an Industrial scale, if the Feds bring in a $Billion in tax money, then they can spend a $Billion. It forces the Federal government to go no further into debt. Am I correct on this? Anyone who knows why this is not correct, please speak up!

Bruce Springsteen had a moment that fans, bandmates and promoters dread when, during a concert in Amsterdam last Saturday (May 27), the rock legend had an on-stage fall. The accident happened mid-performance, as the 73-year-old artist returned from a stint in the pit and tripped up the stairs while carrying his electric guitar. Springsteen appeared to have a soft landing, as members of the E Street Band rushed over to check on him and help the Boss to his feet. “Goodnight everybody,” he yelled to the audience, as he gingerly made his way back to the center stage. Thankfully, it wasn’t the end of the show. The incident happened

In an 8-1 decision in which only Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson fully dissented, the Supreme Court ruled today that unions have to reimburse employers for damages caused by striking workers. The National Labor Relations Act does not confer immunity to unions or workers — the latest ruling from a court that has stiffened the boundaries for labor activities in the last few years: The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that federal labor law did not protect a union from potential liability for damage that arose during a strike, and that a state court should resolve questions of liability. The majority found that if accusations

The Scripps National Spelling Bee has a new champion: 14-year-old Dev Shah of Largo, Florida. The teen beat out his final opponent, eighth-grader Charlotte Walsh of Arlington, Virginia, by correctly spelling the word, "psammophile," which is defined by Merriam-Webster as "an organism that prefers or thrives in sandy soils or areas." "It's surreal," Shah said after being announced the champion. "I don't know if it's settled in. My legs are still shaking!" Prior to Shah's final turn at the mic, Walsh misspelled the word "daviely," making space for Shah to swoop in and take the victory.

Washington — The Senate on Thursday passed legislation to suspend the debt ceiling and limit federal spending, sending the bill to President Biden's desk to avoid a U.S. government default that would have caused economic chaos. The Senate adopted the bill, known as the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, by a bipartisan vote of 63 to 36. Both sides acknowledged that the deal negotiated by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Biden was far from perfect but necessary to avoid a disastrous default. "I look forward to signing this bill into law as soon as possible and addressing the American people directly tomorrow," Mr. Biden said

The ongoing controversy over Twitter’s censorship of The Daily Wire for alleged “misgendering” escalated on Thursday evening with the social media giant’s Head of Trust and Safety, Ella Irwin, resigning in the wake. That’s most likely because she and her department are the ones who made the decision to label tweets by Matt Walsh as violating Twitter’s “hateful conduct” policies. The result was a warning label being placed on the posts along with sharing disabled. Those moves came after Jeremy Boreing, CEO of The Daily Wire, revealed Thursday morning that Twitter backed out of a deal to show What Is a Woman, the outlet’s popular documentary about the militant transgender movement.

"We continue to work with a range of global partners to ensure Ukraine has the satellite and communication capabilities they need. Satellite communications constitute a vital layer in Ukraine's overall communications network and the department contracts with Starlink for services of this type," the Pentagon said in a statement to CNBC. The Pentagon declined to offer additional contract details, including the price, scope and timeline of the delivery.

LACONIA, N.H. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis lashed out at a reporter — twice barking “Are you blind?” — at the end of his first campaign event in New Hampshire on Thursday. DeSantis, who delivered his stock stump speech to an audience of more than 100 people at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Laconia, became noticeably agitated when Steve Peoples of The Associated Press asked why he wasn’t taking questions from the audience like most presidential candidates do in this state. “People are coming up to me, talking to me,” DeSantis said. “What are you talking about? HOUSTON - Exxon Mobil Corp and Chevron Corp shareholders on Wednesday overwhelmingly rejected calls for stronger measures to mitigate climate change, dismissing more than a dozen climate-related proposals at their annual meetings. The results supported the two largest U.S. oil producers in resisting pressure from investor groups calling for the pair to follow European rivals in accepting tougher emissions reductions goals. Despite efforts by Shell PLC, BP PLC and TotalEnergies, protesters still stormed their shareholder meetings this year, seeking a faster shift away from fossil fuels. Their demands similarly failed. Exxon and Chevron's meetings were online, avoiding similar protests.

Tuesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis hit the campaign trail in Iowa, after announcing his bid for the Republican nomination last week. His first speech was before hundreds of Republicans in an evangelical church in Des Moines and he also had an impromptu stop at Jethro’s BBQ Southside in the city. Team Desantis dubbed it “Our Great American Comeback Tour” with stops on Wednesday in Sioux City, Council Bluffs, Pella, and Cedar Rapids. During his speech in Cedar Rapids, DeSantis was dressed casually in jeans, and a blue collared shirt under a navy puffer vest (I think that’s the universal “governors uniform” these days) with embroidered campaign logo.

Lawmakers easily passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act in a 314-117 vote, with 165 Democrats joining 149 Republicans to back the legislation. The bill, a bipartisan compromise crafted by Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and the White House, now heads to the Senate, where a single senator can hold up its passage. The vote comes after a massive whip operation by both parties, with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) delivering McCarthy the support needed to get the bill across the finish line.
