Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Sunday applauded the debt limit deal forged by House Republicans and Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) with President Joe Biden.
Gingrich took to social media to set out his thoughts on what he hailed as a “dramatic victory.” He said: The Debt limit deal is a dramatic victory for Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans. Before they passed their history changing bill no one would have believed it possible to cut spending, reestablish work requirements, reform permitting for energy and infrastructure and more

This agreement reminds me of a calculator in a used car lot's little sweat box where the deal is closed on an old Plymouth. Before the buyer comes in the salesman pre-loads $150 but doesn't print it out: add in final costs like taxes, insurance, depreciation on the trade-in, consolidating a previous car loan and other expenses when transferring a title, and, voila, the customer is shown the now-printed readout and then writes the check. $150? Hell, this deal has $150+ billion in the calculator. No wonder Biden went for it.

The Republicans increased the debt limit, and even after 2025 the government budget is allowed to increase 1% above the rate of inflation. That all sounds like more spending.

The reduction in spending means a reduction in the percent of increase which means an increase in spending just not as much as originally planned. All politicians are crooks and liars.

Newt has become moot. This does not look like a good deal.

Kicking the can down the road is not a "victory," Newt, it's a game... but I suspect you can squeeze at least two of your Costco bargain table books out of it, huh?

The RINO has spoken. A mitigated disaster from my perspective only slowing the pace of our doom.

That is, if you can trust Biden and the Dems to keep their side of the deal. If they do, it very well may be the first.

With a slim majority in the House and a Democrat held Senate and WH I don’t know what people were expecting but it sounds like McCarthy won some concessions. Let’s be realistic.

If this is a victory then it means we can never lose. The GOP is pathetic.

WE have been held hostage by nervous nancy and the rats for years...so...any cut back is a victory....one small victory for Americans is a huge victory for the house....enough with the gloom and doom...let's wait and see what the final budget says....

I can hear Rush say, it's a cut in the rate of spending NOT a cut in spending. Is this good news? Look to the
Freedom Caucus to see.

"...a dramatic victory for Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans."
That is what's wrong with these people. NONE of them work for dramatic victories for the American citizens.
Growing government a little bit slower is not a victory for us at all.
Cutting government a lot would be though.
And that's what we must keep demanding.

Newt's platitudes give me almost as little comfort as do McCarthy's. The widespread skepticism among conservatives is a sad commentary on how ineffectual the GOPe has been for their supporters for many years. I trust the media (as a contrary indicator) more than our "leaders"!

Gingrich is ancient and unsure of himself. Maybe his adult Depends are full but he is dead wrong on this. He needs to be muzzled and put out to pasture for all tme.

The idea that anyone should be muzzled in a political arena is disconcerting.
To label the guy who single handedly gave the republicans the house, brought Reagan Revolution reforms to beltway legislation and personally blow up Hillarycare, to call him a Rino is a special level of blissful ignorance. He certainly represents a time when principle and intellectualism drove republican conservative agendas, instead of donors and cronies and power of Bush era mediocrity. Bush Cheney Rove Hassert Beohner , All grew government and accepted radicalization of Congress and federal government. Never Trumpers past and present. Gingrich is hardly that.

in our lifetimes, the swamp creatures have squandered untold billions of tax dollars on Big Pfama, Big War, Big Debt,
Big Commi-land, Big Billionaires, Big Malthusians and the Big No Deal.
million man armies of illegals and goosesteppers will drive the nation into the murxo-pits of penury and Big Death.
