Downton Abbey could be set for shock return
as TV bosses try to lure back big names
for a seventh series of the prestige drama
as fans clamour to be reunited with the
Crawley family

Its crisp plotlines and sharply drawn characters proved so compelling that it generated six seasons on TV and two movie spin-offs. Now, The Mail on Sunday can reveal the hugely popular Downton Abbey, with the wealthy Crawley family at its heart, is to make its television comeback.[Snip]Yesterday, Downton's executive producer Gareth Neame, who is also the executive chairman of Carnival Films, which makes the show, declined to comment when asked if he was intending to bring it back. ITV also did not want to comment.[Snip]Downton has also had huge success in the US, where each episode was watched by 26 million people on average.

For “Downton Abbey” fans, the return of the series is most welcome news, however, that news is tempered by the reality that sequels can be disappointing and the risk of tarnishing the exemplary standards of the original production evoke mixed emotions about a comeback.

I watched the original and enjoyed it. But that was all I wanted to see. Won't watch any sequels.

I'm a big fan of the original series, and as curious as I might be to see what happens to them in the 30's and 40's, they should not do a sequel. They wrapped things up fairly well in the final episodes, but pushed it with the new era movie. I'd rather remember the series fondly, not sadly.

Upon reflection, rather than taking a tremendous risk of failure with a television series sequel, perhaps releasing a “Downton Abbey” film from time to time would be a more worthy consideration to avoid tarnishing the original television series of six seasons. A "Downton Abbey" fan's psychology of a film’s failure might not have the same damaging psychological impact as would a Sunday evening television series.

My wife loved this story. Together we watched it every Sunday night it was on. She died not long after the final episode. Maybe this will sound strange to others but because of that association, and my loving memory of her, I don't think I would be able to watch any more of it.

How, exactly? The actors from the original are all 8 years older. They've changed in appearance and style. The story won't be able to just pick up as if those real years don't exist. Continuing the story some years into the story's future would also be difficult - the end of the original story coincided with the end of the Crawley's era. Would they set the story in the depression era, and show Robert's skill at losing a fortune (again)? Set it in WWII, and show how devastated England was even winning the war? The story is done, successfully. Don't fiddle it to destruction.

One of my All Time Favorites! I watched the Series Twice! I loved it! I wasn't crazy about the Sequel, so I'm not sure where they would go with another Series. But, whatever they come up with, I will watch it! It's nice to watch something that doesn't have sex or violence or the "F" word spouted like it's just normal conversation.

I loved it too and have streamed the series more than once. The first post-series movie was good, but the second one was just silly. The only interest I would have is finding out how the Crawleys handle the stock market crash and following depression.

It won't work. Bringing back a series after it's been off for a long period of time never works. People have moved on to something else. Let the series be as it was. The series ended with the plot lines pretty much wrapped up. The whole premise of the series won't work the second time around.

The TV series was losing steam by the third season (witness 10 minutes wasted on a cricket match and the repeated perils of the Bates couple). I completely lost interest once they killed off Matthew. When he died, I realized that he was the only character I cared about. Better to let DA rest in peace rather than turn it into an abomination like Disney has done to the "Star Wars" fanchise. Of course, it will happen one way or another as someone sees an opportunity to milk money out of the die-hard fans who will watch no matter what.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has admitted in a new report that digital IDs are exclusionary by nature and can facilitate “the identification, surveillance and persecution of individuals or groups.”[Snip]The risk of near-total surveillance and control of entire populations, like in communist China, is in fact a significant danger that critics of digital IDs have repeatedly warned about. This risk is amplified if digital IDs are combined with Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), as this combination could pave the way for a totalitarian surveillance state.[Snip]The WEF Insight Report also admits that “in some cases, digital ID may weaken democracy and civil society.”

There is a nefarious group that calls itself The 65 Project that has as its goal to intimidate lawyers into not representing Trump or anyone associated with him. If you believe the most ardent defenders of newly indicted former president Donald Trump, there’s a silver bullet hiding in Bill Clinton’s sock drawer. The reference to Clinton’s socks,[Snip]stems from a 13-year-old case in which the right-leaning nonprofit Judicial Watch sought access to 79 audio tape recordings of Clinton interviews conducted by the historian Taylor Branch while Clinton was in office.[Snip]Clinton designated the recordings as personal records, not official presidential records, that were therefore not required to be turned over to the National Archives and Records Administration under the Presidential Records Act.
