New York has been rocked by a rare earthquake this morning, with residents reporting shaking houses in parts of the state. Seismologists said the magnitude 2.2 was reported in the early hours on Friday morning, with the sound of a 'loud rumble' also heard. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake struck around a mile south-south-west of Hastings-on-Hudson. Locals across the region took to social media to say they had felt the quake, with people reporting a tremor in the Bronx to the south, and in New Jersey across the Hudson river. 2.2? Excuse my ignorance, but is that even noticable with scientific instruments?

# 2 - if you're in bed you might feel a bit of a tremor with a 2.2. You'll feel more with a 3 and when it gets to 5 you get the bejeezus scared out of you.

#2 - Yes, the instruments pick up in the tenths less than one. What you feel depends on your distance from the epicenter. About 10 years ago we were awaken in the early morning with a sharp jolt and roll. My native southern Californian self confidently predicted to TK that it had to be in the low 3's and no more than 3.5 at the most. Since we were awake, TK fired up his computer and checked the earthquake map. It turned out to be only a 2.2, but it was located less than a quarter mile from the house.

I lived in upstate NY from 1996-2000 and was mocked for carrying earthquake insurance. Until a 3.0 quake hit. After living in CA, I do my research anytime I relocate. BTW.... A 2.0 will often feel like a large tractor trailer has driven by. For a real E-Ticket ride, be in the 50th floor of an office building when one hits.

Check out what’s going on near the Loyalty Islands. They had a 7.7 yesterday. When I clicked on the QuakeFeed app, it showed 35-40 in the last few days. Ever so tsunami warnings have been issued.

A 2.2 tremor might not even be felt. Let alone rattle a building. #3 is correct. Here in northern Maryland we can on a rare occasion might feel something in the range of a three. However about 12 years ago, an earthquake that happened in Virginia created a shock wave of just over five that rippled its way north. My house started to sway a bit and one could actually see the shock waves ripple across the lawn. While I've never been in an earthquake, I knew immediately what it was, and I stopped in my tracks to hold on. A 5 on the richer scale is a small tremor/earthquake. I can't imagine what a quake approaching a 7 and up might be like.

Ron DeSantis Clinches Another Win for

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to announce his 2024 candidacy tonight, coming on the heels of a new immigration enforcement measure that has some illegals leaving Florida. We must secure the border and deport people who shouldn’t be here. Joe Biden and the Democrats think otherwise, creating a humanitarian crisis at the southern border. It’s an invasion. And with Democrats occupying the White House, Republican governors are our best hope to curb the flow of illegal immigration until the next election. On July 1, new measures in the Sunshine State will greatly degrade the ability of illegal aliens to move and live among us freely.

While the push has been on in woke Democratic circles to shove Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) out the door before her last term in office is over, there has also been a coordinated effort among Feinstein’s “allies” to make sure she doesn’t. The reasons are obvious but nevertheless intriguing even to those not predisposed to obsessing over the finer points of behind-the-scenes political machinations. The most vocal proponent on the “Feinstein must retire” side has been Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), who is rumored to be considering a future run for president but who for now seems content with being the co-chair for Rep. Barbara Lee’s (D-Calif.) 2024 Senate run.

On Tuesday, a U-Haul crashed into a barricade outside the White House grounds. Immediately, speculation that the driver was a “white supremacist” after a Nazi flag was allegedly pulled from the wreck. In fact, the flag was spread out and displayed for reporters by the FBI agents on the scene. Why did they do that? Someone will have to ask them, but the narrative became a lot more complicated after the driver was identified as Sai Varshith Kandula. Needless to say, he didn’t exactly fit the “white supremacist” profile. Now, in a move that is sure to spark much speculation, the DOJ has suddenly downgraded the charges involved.

Left-wing Hollywood killed the movie star, and now the chickens are coming home to roost. Nevertheless, even as outlets like the far-left Variety finally admit to this problem, do not expect anyone to admit to the real reasons. “Hollywood Grapples With Loss of Young Star Power,” reads the headline. The story explains the problem this way… “The hottest package at this year’s Cannes Film Festival stars a 76-year old action star and is a reboot of a movie that first dazzled moviegoers in 1993.” Variety is talking about Sylvester Stallone and his hit movie Cliffhanger. Yep, Cliffhanger 2 is the biggest deal at a prestigious worldwide film festival:

Notably, Yellen continues sending these letters to McCarthy — the man who, along with House Republicans, already passed a bill that would raise the debt ceiling and avoid default — while failing to dispatch similarly snide letters to President Biden or Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
