Slowly but surely, the 2024 Senate cycle is shaping up, with eager candidates or battle-tested incumbents throwing their hats in the ring. Some campaigns are being launched. Others are brewing behind the scenes. And in some states, party operatives are already homing in on their preferred contenders for competitive contests. But in Florida, it’s a slow start, to say the least. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) is running again. But leading state Democrats have been crickets about whether or not they’re interested in going against him. Only seven of Florida’s eight Democrats in Congress are eligible for the Senate; Rep. How hard can it be? Dems only require a body that's slightly above room temperature.

The Democrats elected Hillary Clinton, who didn't live there, as NY Senator, so the net can be cast wide. That will give them a larger chance to find a gay, black female, married to a white woman, that is communist, and hates America. I think the Chicago Mayor is out of a job.

Florida is not Pennsylvania or Georgia. DeSantis has closed all loopholes of election law. You have to win on your merits. Near impossible task for a Democrat these days.

Activists on Wednesday demanded that the state of California pay millions of dollars to each Black resident in reparations as a way to make amends for slavery and subsequent discrimination, dismissing the idea of payments of $5 million per person as "nothing" and "too little." The demands were made at an in-person meeting of the California Reparations Task Force, which was created by state legislation signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2020. The committee was hearing comments from the public as it considers final recommendations to submit to the California Legislature, which will then decide whether to implement the measures

Award-winning PBS News reporter Jane Ferguson said she was "violently assaulted" by a man on the New York City subway this week, leaving her "ear ringing and face on fire" with a good Samaritan helping get her to safety. "At 6.30pm today I was violently assaulted on the NYC subway. A man walked up to me in a busy rush-hour car and punched me, hard, on the side of the face. I kneeled down on the floor in shock, and steadied myself, unsure what had just happened, my ear ringing and face on fire," Ferguson tweeted on Monday night. "The

Calls for police to release the "manifesto" that authorities say was written ahead of Monday's Nashville school shooting has prompted concern among LGBTQ+ groups, who caution against the publication of such a document. While many details remain to be unveiled about the massacre at The Covenant School this week, police have identified the shooter as 28-year-old Audrey Hale. On Monday, Hale, armed with two assault-style weapons—a rifle and a pistol—as well as a handgun, fatally shot three children and three staff members at the school before being killed by police. Speaking at a press conference hours after the

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake woke up parts of the San Francisco Bay Area on Tuesday morning. The earthquake, which struck at 6:01 a.m., was centered in Pacifica, along an area of the coastal city around the San Andreas fault, and was strong enough to be felt near San Francisco International Airport. At least two aftershocks, each of magnitude 2.6, were detected several minutes later. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, light shaking was felt in the vicinity of the airport, enough to feel like a vehicle striking a building. The epicenter was about five miles west of San Francisco

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Yale University business student is proposing renaming Whitney Avenue in New Haven. Robert Lucas, an MBA student, said the legacy of Eli Whitney should be studied, not celebrated. “Things won’t change unless someone speaks up,” Lucas said. Lucas is set to graduate this spring. He’s spent his time in New Haven getting to know the history of the area. “Eli Whitney’s principal legacy was the invention of the cotton gin, and that led to the expansion of slavery,” Lucas said. He’s hoping to rename the stretch of Whitney Avenue that runs through New Haven.

The African country of Tanzania reported its first-ever outbreak of Marburg disease, which has so far resulted in eight total cases and five deaths. The Ebola-related virus was also responsible for additional lab-confirmed illnesses stemming from a February outbreak in Equatorial Guinea, which has so far sickened nine patients, seven of which have died. In a statement issued earlier this week, the World Health Organization has said an additional 161 people — all considered “contacts” of those sickened — were being monitored for symptoms. “The efforts by Tanzania’s health authorities to establish the cause of the disease is a clear

Search and rescue operations were underway in Sharkey and Humphreys counties, Mississippi's Emergency Management Agency said late Friday. When Sean Youra was 26 years old and working as an engineer, he started watching documentaries about climate change. Youra, who was struggling with depression and the loss of a family member, was horrified by what he learned about melting ice and rising extreme weather. He started spending hours on YouTube, watching videos made by fringe scientists who warned that the world was teetering on the edge of societal collapse — or even near-term human extinction. Youra started telling his friends and family that he was convinced that climate change couldn’t be stopped, and humanity was doomed. In short, he

The Louisville, Colorado City Council is facing harsh criticism after its recent proposal to ban the construction of new gas stations and auto service stations. Though council members say the ban is an effort to combat climate change, one local Republican spokesperson called it an abuse of power. If enacted, the ban would leave the 21,000 residents of Louisville with only six gas stations. A seventh would be permitted under the ordinance only if it were part of a large retail center. Charlie Danaher, the Republican spokesperson in Boulder County, Colorado, said on "Fox & Friends First" Thursday that the

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota House was moving Thursday toward strengthening the state's protections for children and their families who come for gender-affirming care by making Minnesota a “trans refuge state,” bucking a national backlash against transgender rights. Democratic Gov. Tim Walz signed an executive order two weeks ago to protect the rights of people from Minnesota and other states to receive gender-affirming health care in the state. The bill on which the House was slated to begin debate Thursday night covers much of the same ground, but supporters said a statute would provide stronger, more permanent protections. Passage

U.S. Marshals assigned to guard Supreme Court justices during the controversy over Roe v. Wade last year were reportedly told not to arrest protesters that gathered outside their private homes. Last year, individual Supreme Court Justices were targeted by protesters after an illegal leak of a draft decision aiming to overturn Roe v. Wade before it had been officially decided. At the time, even the left-wing Washington Post admitted such protests were likely illegal according to Title 18, Section 1507, of the U.S. Code.

The entire nation is waiting for the day when Governor Ron DeSantis announces whether or not he will be running for president in 2024. The media are definitely on the edge of their seats. Who went to school yesterday and who didn’t get to come home. So, when Henry came home from work, I said, ‘Did you see this?’ I had to whisper, because I have a 9-year-old,”

Not only can I not see the “funny” in the Tennessee shooting, I don’t want to seek it. The trans movement asked for tolerance, then acceptance. Then they just wanted to use the restroom of their preference for their safety, despite a lack of violence against trans people and a bushel full of trans attacks on kids. We allowed it. I regret that. A lot.

Attorney General Merrick Garland shared on Tuesday his expectations for when a report from John Durham‘s special counsel investigation will be completed, and it doesn’t appear to be that far off in the future. The rare update on Durham’s inquiry into potential misconduct in the Trump-Russia probe came during testimony before a Senate committee. Sen. Evangelicals no longer see the severity of this [because] they’re busy apologizing for their apparently barbaric homophobia, whether or not it’s true,” Edwards posted to Twitter in February.
