Homeschooling will revolutionize education

Imagine a kid with a smart, dedicated, private, full-time tutor who dearly loves him, never goes on strike, and conducts classes within walking distance at a place that is physically and emotionally safe. It’s called “homeschooling.” Homeschooling used to be illegal. Children were required to attend organized schools even if they were physically assaulted, as I was, or were shaken down for their lunch money daily, as I was. (Other than the physical assaults and thievery and emotional torment and a few other things, I have very fond memories of public school.) Later, homeschooling became slightly more common but was still an offbeat thing. It was mainly something for oddball religious sects.

I recall learning that our education system of classrooms and school was founded on a certain German dictators ideas. Can anyone confirm or deny? I know school houses themselves are very American but when did the individual grades and big school systems start?

My daughter decided to home school her 3 kids after the covid school disaster. She now has them in a hybrid program: Three days in school and two days at home. The schools has music, arts and sports. So far its working out fine. School unions are destroying kids.

What follows is all anecdotal or just plain wrong. I vaguely remember hearing that our education system was Prussian based-that's why there's kindergarten (child's garden) and ensuing, different grade levels. Beyond that I leave to those knowledgeable.

My nephew and his wife have 7 children who are all homeschooled. The oldest just got her Masters in Electronical and Mechanical Engineering... The next one is also getting his degree in the same courses. These kids are self motivated, for the mother stops teaching the oldest ones at the 7th grade. By the way, none of them have ever taken a test before, and these two older ones aced the SATs, perfect scores.

The fact that kids would learn better from being homeschooled is a great perk. The biggest benefit will be the destruction of the public school system, and hopefully the corrupted teachers who run the indoctrination machine. Our nations posterity in the form of our kids deserves nothing less than a good education.

We homeschooled our three children from kindergarten through high school. Each one of them graduated from college with honors. Each one has a strong work ethic and a good career. Love your kids enough to homeschool them. Sure, it was tough being a single income family, but the strong and loving bonds we developed were well worth it.

our country was founded having home schooling as a part of the culture with a lot of people educating themselves by reading the Bible - the first school was founded according to Google: "On April 23, 1635, the first public school in what would become the United States was established in Boston, Massachusetts. Known as the Boston Latin School, this boys-only public secondary school was led by schoolmaster Philemon Pormont, a Puritan settler" - Boston Latin School is part of the Boston Public School system and is one of the most prestigious schools in Massachusetts rivaling the exclusive private schools with Boston English School, both schools require passing an Entrance Exam for admittance, both schools are mere shadows of the founding schools, today

You can't have equity if some kids are home schooled while others are forced to endure public education. It's not the teaches fault (generally speaking) when they have to maintain a pace that works for everyone.

#14, those things already exist for home schoolers. They are provided by the National Home School Defense Association among other groups. My daughter happens to live in the town where the NHSDA is located and she will be home schooling her 3 children when they are of age. She hopes to be part of a “pod” in which multiple families share the load with each parent taking turns at teaching all of the kids. Many years ago when I was a karate instructor, I taught a noon class a couple of times each week. My students were all home schooled kids and the class was their PE for the day. They were the best behaved kids I ever taught.

#1, the current system of public indoctrination of children was devised by Horace Mann, a Massachusetts legislator in the early nineteenth century. He sold the idea that public education would be "free" and funded by the state, the usual leftist speak for taxpayer money. As usual, anything created and run by "the state" soon turns to bureaucratic garbage, as our school system has done. Over-burden the system with highly paid administrators and teachers' unions and you have an education that costs nearly $20 thousand per student per year and is practically worthless. A tutor is great if you can afford it but most families would need to have one parent working and one parent teaching, a severe downturn in lifestyle but you have a better educated child to show for it if the tutor/parent is up to the job.

Bishops in the Church of England are agitating to make “God” a genderless word. No longer would God be a “he” or even a “she.” God is slated for genderless affirming surgery. God will be the Church of England’s eunuch. This presumably means that God will be referenced as “they.” But “they” is a plural pronoun. Ergo, the Church of England now apparently considers God to be plural – there is more than one. The choice of pronouns farce has thus gone to heaven. Not to die, as it should have the good grace to do, but to take over the place.

Testosterone is an interesting hormone. The more a man uses it, the higher his levels become. And the higher his levels become, the more he wants to use it. Exercise, especially resistance training like weight lifting, increases T levels. And then the increased T levels make a man want to go lift some weights. It’s a virtuous circle. If gasoline in a car were like T in a man’s body, the more you drove, and the harder you drove, the more gas there would be in your tank. But there’s not much gas in the tank of young men these days. A couple of centuries ago, an extraordinary group of 56 men on the eastern seaboard of our continent declared the independence of their lands. At the close of their Declaration of Independence, they further declared, “We mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our scared honor.” I think Lauren Boebert would have voted “present.” The Founders weren’t just being melodramatic. Had they lost the Revolutionary War, they’d have met their end at the end of a rope. They took that risk to found this amazing democratic republic, one that Abraham Lincoln later noted was “conceived in liberty.” He might have added “with undaunted courage and against all odds.”

The number of people on planet Earth is about 8 billion. The number has grown exponentially, as numbers that are the result of exponential functions do. It’s something like the miracle of compound interest. The graph tells the story. I don’t think we’re on the verge of starving ourselves. That Malthusian apocalypse gets proven wrong over and over. That’s because Malthusians fail to foresee the agricultural productivity ensuing from technology. For that matter, they fail to foresee the general increase in well-being and comfort that technology brings about.

In stock market investing, you’re supposed to be pessimistic when everyone else is optimistic, and optimistic when everyone else is pessimistic. Warren Buffet famously put it this way: “Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.” The reason the aforecited principle applies well in stock market investing is that the herd instinct makes people buy or sell stocks because other people are buying or selling. The result is that the stocks get over-sold or over-bought, thereby driving their price too low or too high in relation to their real indicators of value – mainly their current and future profits.

Scientists generally agree that the universe – defined as everything in existence – has not always existed. It came into existence with a bang about 13 billion years ago. This bang was a big one, so they named it the “Big Bang.” Before the Big Bang, there was no space, no energy and no time – not even empty space, zero energy or stopped time. There was nothing. And then everything was created out of this nothing. We call this everything “creation.” It’s the tangible universe around us, seen and unseen. It’s the energy, the matter, and the progression of time.

The Biden administration made headlines last year when they boastfully appointed to a high level position at the Office of Nuclear Energy a certain person. This person is “non-binary” and refers to his/her/them/itself with ungendered pronouns. OK, I get that. The person feels that he/her/it/they does (do?) not fit neatly into the anachronistic gender labels developed over about two million years of human history and prehistory as interpreted by science, medicine, genetics, sociology, biology, logic, anthropology and biochemistry promulgated by dead white European men – and dead men and women of color on the rest of the planet – consistent with the male/female dichotomy in the animal world.

In a case argued at the Supreme Court this week, a Colorado website designer appealed a decision from lower courts requiring her to create wedding websites for gay couples in violation of her religious belief that marriage is between a man and a woman. The Court is likely to reverse the lower court decision, and allow her to decline to create such websites. The liberal minority on the Court and the liberal media argue that such a decision will lead to a new Jim Crow era where the providers of public accommodation are allowed to refuse services to people on the basis of their sexual preferences or skin color.

The GOP performance in the midterm elections is very disappointing, but here’s some good news. It would take a miracle for the Democrats to retain the House of Representatives. Let’s do the math. According to Wall Street Journal and other credible sites, the GOP has won about 211 seats and the Dems have won 192. That means about 32 seats are still undecided. The GOP needs at least 7 of those 32 to reach the bare majority of 218. It’s fair to assume that the odds on each of those races is about 50/50. If it were otherwise, they’d have been decided. They’re “toss-ups”
