China Threatens Repercussions for Downed

Take Further Actions in Response’

WASHINGTON— The U.S. military on Saturday shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon off the Carolina coast after it traversed sensitive military sites across North America. China insisted the flyover was an accident involving a civilian aircraft and threatened repercussions. President Joe Biden issued the order but had wanted the balloon downed even earlier, on Wednesday. He was advised that the best time for the operation would be when it was over water, U.S. officials said.(Snip) ..(Video) China responded that it reserved the right to “take further actions” and criticized the U.S. for “an obvious overreaction and a serious violation of international practice.”

FTA: Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., was more positive: “Thank you to the men and women of the United States military who were responsible for completing the mission to shoot down the Chinese surveillance balloon. The Biden Administration did the right thing in bringing it down.” Old Lindsey is in bidet's pocket he'd never critize the moron in chief. SC must be so proud.

Interesting. One possibility is that they deliberately sent the balloon to provoke an attack on it, and then use that as a pretext for shooting down one of our surveillance planes or possibly even a satellite. They're obviously spoiling for a fight. On their terms.

None of this passes the smell test. From start to finish everything about it has seemed phoney, beginning with the fact that a balloon ended up in our airspace without being immediately shot down. There has to be far more to this than we are being told. It probably involves Biden and international organized crime. And really, what are the Chinese going to do? Withhold bribes? Recall their spies in our colleges and laboratories? Oh the horror.

Will they now shoot down our satellites and surveillance balloons? I read that above 60,000 feet is Internationally considered to outer space, and there is no sovereignty issue. If this balloon dropped below that level ( reportedly to 19,000 ft above the Montana installations) then fine. It was reported to be at 65,000 ft when it was shot down. We've got these things and satellites all over the place. Several wrong decisions made at the wrong times. This is dangerous and serious.

There is a lot we don't know. It might be a spy satellite or it might be a weapon. It might be a probe to let the Chinese know how we would react to some future weapon. All of the headlines say spy satellite but the article says SUSPECTED spy balloon. . Once they get out of radio range there is no way to control them and there might have been an equipment failure. It's even possible that the battery system failed completely so that the thing wasn't doing anything at all except floating. The US defense system might have even figured that out, in which case it would be entirely appropriate for them to keep the whole thing a secret. But then when it sank to a visible altitude, politics took over.

After listening to the State of the Union address, Americans know why the latest Reuters poll has President Joe Biden at 41 percent approval. Vice President Kamala Harris polls even lower - despite the obsequious efforts of the most biased media in history that has, in effect, merged with the Democratic Party. The nation was reminded again why only 37% of Biden's own party want him to run again. Only a quarter of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction under his leadership. Given all that, what could a president possibly tell a nation when he entered office inheriting a 1.4% inflation rate only to spike it to 7%?

Someone defined education as “that which is done to prepare a child for life.” If that is truly the definition, then our schools are doing a terrible job. Many kids graduate from school believing somehow that the world owes them a living; that they have a right to a good income, whether they happen to work or not. The idea that Americans are free to excel and benefit from their hard work seems foreign to what they are being taught in school. In fact, producing children who believe the world owes them a living represents the future downfall of our great nation.

Has (sic) affirmative action hiring practices caused overall competence to plummet? The record appears to show exactly that. For no good reasons whatsoever, competence was allowed to die on the vine in order to give the less competent a leg up. Not equality but superiority rules the hiring, firing, and education of Americans. Worse, many of those who were affirmatively hired do not do as good a job as those whose excellence was obvious. You can see it in customer service, which for many businesses is abysmally incompetent. There is a resentful casualness in those who are hired to serve others that would not have been acceptable even two decades ago.

The early fireworks opened up a speech that typically devolves into policy lists and platitudes as the night wears on Tuesday night's prime time event featured angry exchanges between Biden and House Republicans who booed him for claiming they want to 'sunset' Social Security and Medicare. Sinema made a bold entrance into the House chamber for the speech, after forcing Washington to hold its collective breath during talks on the Inflation Reduction Act, then later announcing she had switched from Democrat to independent.
