Dozens of House Democrats have proposed legislation that would eliminate the debt ceiling, which would allow the government to borrow without any limit set by Congress.
The federal government hit the $31.381 trillion debt ceiling last week, and House Republicans are pushing for commitments to cut back on the record growth in federal spending before agreeing to allow more borrowing. But Democrats accuse Republicans of setting up the possibility of prohibiting a debt ceiling hike, which would make the government unable to fund all of its current obligations.
Democrats say a better idea is to eliminate all limits on federal borrowing and allow

The debt ceiling should be lowered. Start by subtracting a trillion and keep it there. Then, every year subtract another trillion until it's back to $20T and cap it there.

From the article - "Foster’s bill is the End the Threat of Default Act, and it’s cosponsored by 42 House Democrats including Reps. Pramila Jayapal of Washington, Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, Gerry Connolly of Virginia, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Barbara Lee of California."
Yes, increased "freebies" while Mitch "MultiUseless" McConnell awaits instructions from Chuck "SS" Schumer as to what to say. Heck, a pre-approved stern letter from MultiUseLess could be on its way.

That is a brilliant idea. One of my co-workers tried that and, not only did he go bankrupt, but it cost him his wife and family.

Just kill the nation quick and get it over with.
We can get on with the business of rebuilding sooner rather than later once everything implodes and collapses.
Grease those rails.

F&$@ Fox News!
The Republicans are going to go along with raising the debt ceiling and are no better than the Democrats. Fox is no better than CNN, MSNBC or the rest of them. Stop falling for the Fox bull💩. It’s one sided propaganda designed to keep you fixed and focused on the “other” guys, while your Republican “friends” rob you of your wealth and freedom.

Sure. And while they are at it, make a law taking away credit limits on credit cards because everyone should be able to charge as much as they want, when they want, no matter their ability to repay the credit card bill. Also take away the creditors ability to try to send the unpaid bills into collections or repossess things. Lets see what happens to the economy and credit markets when there is unlimited spending and limited ability or unwillingness to repay because of no consequences in the private sector when the same irresponsible power is given to the government.

Maybe they shouldn't have decided to spend money they didn't have the ability to allocate.
If they didn't have the actual spending ability they shouldn't be able to allocate spending programs.

I hope they stand their ground. Time to quit recklessly spending money. Entitlements need to be capped to four people per household. They left want abortions so their flock needs to get a grip on their offspring production.

Let your Republican representatives know they better not fold, and raise the debt ceiling, and that you mean it.

Here we go again! Let's all watch the Republicans on TV to talk tough for months on end, diddle around the edges, make big demands, and end up giving the Dems every thing they want in the end. Oooohh, we'll get blamed for "shutting down the government!! It happens every time, why is this time different? Just eliminate the useless debt ceiling! Why not? They continue to raise it any way. Just end it and spare us the bullschnit!!
Trust me, the debt ceiling Will be raised. Bank on it!

The reason rational and very responsible conservatives are shocked by this proposal is because they misunderstand how the Federal banking system actually works. They imagine that the Federal government must balance their budget the same way a solvent household, city, county, or state government does. They fail to realize that only the Federal government has the legal power to create and then appropriate all the money that eventually circulates in the private economy. All the money that is spent by the government has to end up in the private economy. This creates a "deficit" on the government side but who cares? No one ever actually has to pay it back.
The Federal Reserve creates dollars on a computer equal to the amount of money that Congress has appropriated to spend. These funds are then transfered to Principal Dealer banks who buy Treasury bonds at a price that determines the interest rate target set by the Fed. These banks can then sell these bonds (at a slightly lower interest rate) to pension funds, insurance companies, and anyone in the private economy who wants to earn a little income from their excess cash. The Fed could convert all these bonds, which are otherwise known as the national debt, to cash anytime they wanted from their computer.
This is not "free money". Ultimately the amount of money in circulation must grow in direct proportion to our GDP or we will experience inflation or deflation. This is what the Congress should actually focus on. What are the real priorities for the country (entitlements, military, health, infrastructure, etc) that we should plan for and what is the maximum benefit to society that we can afford without causing inflation? Given the influence of money and political egos on the Congress this is probably harder than it looks, but if we had informed and responsible representatives we wouldn't need to keep playing the "debt ceiling" game.

"Debt ceiling reached"...because Dems increased spending by 50% on an "Emergency basis, on a party line vote, then crammed through several other "Emergency spending" measures of over $1Trillion at a time, all part of the "Green Nude Ell/Great Reset", all on party line votes. NOW they claim Repubs are being Partisan by trying to stop such things, and actually expecting Congress to have a "Budget" instead of acting like a college freshman who keeps draining their debit account and demanding Mommy/Daddy keep refilling it, regardless of the fact it didn't go for school expenses.
Go back and look...Dems came in insisting on a $8 Trillion dollar spending package, based upon Bernies "socialist party" platform, A package Biden swore over and over on the campaign trail he was NOT going to support. Dems have incrementally enacted nearly all of it....along with some spontaneous bells and whistles. The 42 Dems now yelling WOLF! are all admitted socialists as well.
