Big rigs and buses made before 2010 are now banned from operating on California roadways.
The law, which went into effect on New Year’s Day, was part of a set of clean air regulations the California Air Resources Board passed nearly 15 years ago.
According to truck lobbying groups, the new law will prohibit about 10 percent of the commercial motor vehicles that are operating in the state.
“The rule applies to diesel vehicles that weigh at least 14,000 pounds. The air resources board said there are an estimated 200,000 vehicles that have yet to comply with the rule just days before the new year, including roughly 70,000 big rig trucks,

House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy signaled he was done negotiating with his detractors in an effort to win the speakership during a tense closed-door meeting on Tuesday morning, according to a new report.
Several House Republicans doubled down on their promises to oppose McCarthy’s bid after the meeting, which was held ahead of what is expected to be a lengthy vote for the speakership. As many as 20 House Republicans may oppose McCarthy’s bid, according to reports. The California Republican will need 218 votes if every current member votes for a candidate by name — a difficult task with the party’s razor-thin majority in the House.

In her final letter as Speaker of the House before a Republican majority is sworn in, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wrote that she believes House Democrats are the “greatest collection of intellect, integrity and imagination assembled.”
“One final thought that I wanted to leave with you is my belief that the House Democratic Caucus is the greatest collection of intellect, integrity and imagination assembled for the good of the American people,” she wrote in her final to her colleagues on both sides of the aisle on Monday evening.
Expressing the “appreciation” she had for the “high honor bestowed upon [her] by House Democrats” of letting her serve as Speaker of the House, she added:

The Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals game Monday was temporarily suspended in the first quarter after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed with 5:58 remaining in the first quarter.
A second-year player out of Pittsburgh, Hamlin tackled Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins after a 13-yard gain. Hamlin stood up but collapsed to the ground.
An ambulance was brought onto the field and ESPN reporter Lisa Salters said medical responders were “working on him” for more than nine minutes.

The Democrats and the Fourth Estate have finally found, in congressman-elect George Santos (R-N.Y.), a Republican who is genuinely guilty of lying to the voters. Having thus discovered themselves — for once — in possession of the moral high ground, they have made the welkin ring with cries of outrage and calls for his resignation. However, if he ignores those calls, it may be difficult to stop him from being seated in the House and even harder to expel him once he takes office.

According to the book “Peril” written by Bob Woodward, General Mark Milley, the Joint Chiefs chairman, told China in a secret phone call that he would give advance warning if the US was ever going to attack.
“In a pair of secret phone calls (Oct. 20 and Jan. 8), Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, assured his Chinese counterpart, Gen. Li Zuocheng of the PLA, that the U.S. would not strike, according to the new book written by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward and national political editor Robert Costa. On January 8, 2021, the same day Milley reportedly spoke to China

ST. LOUIS — Unless Missouri Gov. Mike Parson grants clemency, Amber McLaughlin, 49, will become the first openly transgender woman executed in the U.S. She is scheduled to die by injection Tuesday for killing a former girlfriend in 2003. McLaughlin’s attorney, Larry Komp, said there are no court appeals pending. The clemency request focuses on several issues, including McLaughlin’s traumatic childhood and mental health issues, which the jury never heard in her trial.

Biden and his family of grifters last week traveled to St. Croix for another vacation.
Biden has spent 280 days – or 40% of his presidency on vacation.
Biden is vacationing in sunny St. Croix while Americans freeze to death.
The island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands has been one of the Bidens' favorite vacation destinations, a spot he traveled to when he was the Vice President serving under former President Barack Obama, Caribbean Journal reported.
But this is his first trip to the US territory as President.
They even decide to send a cringe New Year's message!

Kevin McCarthy lost the third vote for House Speaker on Tuesday.
The winning Republican can only afford to lose 4 votes! He must reach 218 votes to win the Speakership.

Washington - Republican leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., failed again to secure enough support in his bid for U.S. House speaker during the chamber's second vote of the day.
During two tense voice votes, every Democrat on the floor rallied unanimously around incoming Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., while a sect of Republicans cast their second ballots for Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, a longtime McCarthy ally. McCarthy won 203 of the 218 votes needed to secure the post in both rounds of voting. Jordan, who nominated and voted for McCarthy, won 19 votes in the second round

Joe Biden, despite his dodderiness, insists he's up for a second term as president, but the record shows he's a man of semi-retired status.
According to the Daily Caller:
President Joe Biden spent nearly 40% of 2022 in Delaware, Camp David and vacation destinations.
A Daily Caller analysis of Biden’s 2022 public schedule shows that the president spent 92 days or partial days at one of his Delaware properties, and 32 days or partial days at Camp David.
Biden also vacationed seven days in South Carolina, five days in Nantucket, and five days in the U.S. Virgin Islands, bringing his total getaway

Why did Republicans underperform during the 2022 mid-terms? That question has become a near-constant point of contention on the right.
Was it a candidate quality issue? I’d argue that was certainly the case in several high-profile races, but that’s obviously not the only thing that plagued the GOP. There was also a lack of coherent messaging from leadership, and in many important races, Democrats were simply able to outspend their opponents by large margins. The RNC’s inability to harvest votes and bank early votes didn’t help either. Donald Trump is looking elsewhere for an explanation, though. In an eyebrow-raising rant on Sunday, he appeared to blame pro-lifers for GOP woes.
