Southwest Airlines issued a second apology Wednesday night as customers across the US continue to experience mass delays and cancelations to their holiday travel plans.
In a video message from the ailing airline's Chief Commercial Officer Ryan Green, the executive assured passengers stranded without their luggage that they will be able to 'submit information on how to receive that bag at no cost to you.'
As of Thursday morning, Southwest had canceled 2,357 flights - 58 percent of its daily schedule and 96 percent of all canceled trips in the US today.

Poor Ryan Green. He was sent out there with such a poor response and acting like it is a big favor that stranded passengers get a freebie even submitting their receipts??? The DOT under Butt’s leadership is going to try and hurt Southwest all they can. I heard Butt’s comments in front of adoring reporters just slobbering over Southwest’s plight like hungry coyotes.

Southwest is proving what many of us have seen over the past decades. Southwest started with a visionary president (Herb) who believed that you focused on the traveler. Now the company is run by MBAs with a singular focus on the next set of analyses that will show that if they reduce the size of the bags of peanuts they will save millions of dollars in fuel costs every year. I've worked for several companies who traded customer good will for short term financial gains and then ended up wondering why their brand is no longer valuable.

CEO, Bob Jordan, why did you leave it for your CCO to speak to your company's customers? Playing hide and seek is never a good idea when it comes to implementing effective crisis management.

I hope this ends the ridiculous boarding procedure that Southwest uses. It's not any faster than what the other airlines use, and it still takes forever to get the plane in the air once everyone is boarded.

Hubby and I were talking about this last night and wondered about the reason for Southwest not being able to get back up and flying. He thought it was financial. I thought maybe they have idiots doing the scheduling and can't get crews and planes together to get moving.

"Flying" involves putting hundreds of people in a metal tube, getting it to its destination and landing it SAFELY. If the pilots say they won't go, you don't want to go either.

Under FAR121, airline pilots can fly 1,000 hours per year. Union rules usually specify 80 hours per month. There are a lot of people employed by airlines to ensure that the pilots fly no more than that amount - and no less. Southwest had an antiquated software system called SkySolver that kept track of aircrew flight times and aircrew location; it finally got overloaded and screwed things up. They knew they should have replaced it with something newer and better, but I imagine the “bean counters” stopped them from doing it. That’s what happens when you let accountants make business decisions. This can be laid right at the feet of the CEO.
Southwest has a lot of loyal customers, but I fear that if they don’t fix this RIGHT NOW, they may not survive.

Will Pete Pervert be fired? Will the fake president have the balls to do it?

Southwest management should all be required to read Car Guys vs. Bean Counters by Bob Lutz. An entertaining read. Bottom line, focus on your product, and profits will follow. I gave a copy to my CEO when our company was taken over by private equity, unfortunately to no avail. I left about a year later.

I checked in online on Monday for a Southwest flight home from Charleston. In the middle of the night, I slept through a text that told me my flight was canceled. Fortunately, American had a flight (to a different airport in my area) that I was able to take as a standby. Herb Kelleher must be spinning in his grave. I always loved Southwest before this, but they need to make some big changes, starting with the C suite.

Sam Kelleher, Sam Walton. Both started companies with a vision they were able to see accomplished during their lives. Now both companies have been FUBAR’d by the oh-so-expert MBAs of the world.

I’m not blaming SW. imagine blaming Slow Joe and Cackles. They’ve screwed up everything else since they took over.

Excuse second post. A retired Southwest pilot did say on Ft. worth radio show that management was warned for years about that outdated inefficient software. He said flight attendants also have big issues which will reach the boiling point eventually as well. True #19, there is such a difference between managers and leadership. There are far more MANAGERS in positions where leadership is necessary and what a mess because of it.
