The creator of a nuclear war simulator has said it is "critical" that the public understands the nature of the threat posed by atomic weapons.
Tensions between the West and Russia rose significantly after President Vladimir Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine in February and worsened as the West began supplying Ukrainian forces with urgently needed military aid. While it is not clear if Russian President Vladimir Putin would go so far as to use nuclear weapons, despite his recent threats about deploying them, the escalation of the Ukraine conflict has led to increased discussions about the potential outbreak of a nuclear war.

1200 warhead strike? Pretty seriously unrealistic.
But, the purpose is to drive more hysteria, make you ever more fearful, scare the hell out of you so that the WEF globalists can "protect you", trading freedom for 'security'.
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

Ya know, we weren't talking about nuclear war when Trump was president...

Trump didn't start a new war for four years so Biden has to make up for it by starting a big one.

I pretty much agree with DVC, but have a question about the first line.
We have Joe Biden in the White House, what does "realistic" have to do with anything.

Re #4, point well taken, but we only have about 2000 total nuclear weapons these days, so a strike that size seems particularly unlikely.

Why is it that democrats are not rightfully labelled the party of war? Kennedy, Truman, Roosevelt, Wilson... and RINO Bush might be added.

the "public" knows but it's the politicians who are not paying attention or, are intentionally causing these ideas to foment in the public square - don't know of one instance where the "public" ever started any war or ever clamored to control the "public" or control their thinking

Available to launch is about 1600 each for US and Russia. Another 5000 or so in stockpiles that would never be launched after a real civilization destroying strike.
I played with NUKEMAP a bit and dropped varying size warheads on San Francisco.
A single 50k warhead is enough to wipe out the entire city. Up to a single 50 megaton will wipe out most of the greater SF Bay Area.
300, 600, 1200, doesn't really matter how many, once those things start flying around in triple digit numbers we're all pretty hosed.

As long as demoncraps and everything that falls under their umbrella and all Rinoz ard vaporuzed or die agonizing deaths I'm goid with it!
Any demoncrap/Rino who survives should be denied life saving care. Dump their carcasses on a barge and send it out to sea. They re smarter than anyone else so I'm VERY sure they'll be fine!

FTA: "This simulator shows what would happen if approximately 1,200 warheads—around 7 percent of the world's stockpile—struck the United States."
If 1,200 warheads is only 7 percent of the world's stockpile and the US only has 2,000 of the total, then 1,200 warheads striking the US is not beyond the pale. Such simulations aren't new. In 2007, working in a federal agency in DC, I recall being linked to a website that could be used to predict the blast effect and fall out patterns of the killing radiation in the Delaware, Maryland, Virginia area, with DC at ground zero. The warheads simulated were not peak yield (x-megatons) but more along the lines of the Hiroshima blast (x-kilotons). Prevailing wind patterns were also factored and the bottom line was not good for anyone in the Delmarva region, as it is known locally. In 2008, I resigned and moved back to Texas (more because of Obama than fear of being nuked; however, with a 1,000 plus warhead strike, no place in the U.S., including HI and AK, is what you'd call safe. Millions might ride out the blast effects in a storm shelter but the fall out is perhaps the bigger killer and its effects would linger beyond anyone's "natural" lifetime.

Clinton - Bosnia, Herzegovina, Kosovo
Obama - Libya, Syria
Simulation -Bayesian probability, speculation, mind reading and computer modelling GIGO (ala Climate Change) one missed step changes entire scenario

If the Dems remain in power, nuclear war would be an improvement.
