I keep coming back to the fact that there’s no apparent strategic logic behind the GOP blocking a debt-ceiling hike. They’re not holding out in hopes that Democrats will make some concession in exchange for their votes. Republicans aren’t demanding anything, McConnell has said repeatedly.
They’re not pretending that it’d be no big deal if the U.S. defaulted on its debt either. It’d be cataclysmic, McConnell acknowledges. The debt ceiling simply must be raised, he says.
They’re not refusing to raise the ceiling because doing so would block Democrats from passing their reconciliation mega-bill. The debt ceiling applies to spending that’s already been incurred,

The logic of just messing with the democrats is just fine with me. As far as I am concerned, we should fight everything the SOBs want to do. They do to conservatives all the time. If they can choose to be perpetual obstructionists, turn about is fair play.

Under no circumstances should the debt ceiling be raised. I support lowering it by 50% over the next 5 years. The citizens of this country are getting nothing for all this spending. We are just adding money to the Democrat coffers.

No Strategy?...Just sending a hard message,
"You wanna go it alone, cut us out of everything, bad mouth and bash us constantly? Call US the enemy of Democracy? You ARE on your own Tooter Turtle, we aren't 'Mr Wizzard' you ain't gettin' no "Drizzle, Drazzle, Druzzle, Drome; time for this one to come home." and a free ride just to do it all again. If YOU consent to being held hostage by Socialists extorting Trillions from the American People? That is your Choice as a Party....We won't"

All this aside...
I would be in favor of totally removing the spending limit for ONE year,
Making ALL spending for ONE year totally deficit.
Bank every dime of Tax/Fee/Royalty inflow...coupled with a Constitutional amendment that EVERY year that follows spending can ONLY come from money "earned" the prior year and already in the Bank.
ANY spending above that must be raised first, through voluntary contributions, War Bonds style...Bake sale style.
Included in any/all budgets MUST be payments to reduce the overall deficit, always smaller, never again larger.

What's the point of having a debt ceiling if you just keep raising it when it becomes inconvenient?

The logic is to stop being the go along to get along enablers that the Repukes have become famous for being, you moron author.
Let the Democraps do this entire thing on their own hook. They can, without a single GOP vote or concession. They can simply use reconciliation, and own it all. Let the 'adults' be in charge.

Watch Real America's Voice News to learn how catastrophic is would be for future generations if the debt ceiling is raised. Our country is already bankrupt. These people care about no one but themselves.

We have seen this dance before. The Republicans act like conservatives at election time and then join the democrats to screw us shortly thereafter. The debt ceiling always ends up getting raised due to threats of government shutdown, slowdown, recession, depression, etc. It's all a big game and we always lose. McConnell will cave and Kentucky will never get rid of him until he croaks.

The strategy is to have Dems set the precedent for raising debt ceiling through reconciliation process, so that GOP can do likewise in the future.

#10, all the cataclysm talk assumes that the debt is repaid and that it is repaid with dollars that are worth something close to their value when "borrowed".
I seriously doubt that this debt will ever be repaid.
And, if any of it is repaid, it will be with dramatically devalued dollars. Say, 1000 of those future dollars to buy a loaf of bread. So, pay off a $1,000,000 in debt with the purchasing power of $1,000.
For anyone holding this debt long term....that's a bad thing. Lend out $1 million in purchasing power, and be "repaid", $1,000 in purchasing power.....or less, if the Zimbabwe and Wiemar republic examples hold true.
Heading for a currency collapse, slowly at first then REALLY fast "when the time comes".
The question is "When will the time come?"
Frankly, I have no idea how long this "slowly" part lasts.
I was skeptical that we could get this far, but who in 1965 could have imagined that a normal pickup truck would cost $50,000 or more when a nice three BR house then cost $22,000, and a brand new Chevy sedan was $2,500-$3,000. The dollar is worth about 8-10% of what it was in those days, due to inflation.
It will get worse before it gets better.
