Why not sit down with Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., the head of the uber-liberal caucus that has stymied progress on his bipartisan infrastructure bill? Why no late-night calls to Bernie Sanders, the Vermont socialist who is clearly the shadow president and who has resisted calls to trim Biden’s monster spending package? We know why: there’s no point.

If we’re winning, it’s working, the thinking goes, so there can’t be much wrong with what we’re doing. This is delusional.
