Smith & Wesson is moving its headquarters from Massachusetts to Tennessee, citing the southern state's "unwavering support of the Second Amendment" as well as its lower cost of living.
The decision to depart New England was "an extremely difficult and emotional" one, Mark Smith, the gun-maker's president and CEO, said Thursday in a statement. The company, based in Springfield, Massachusetts, since 1852, will spend $125 million on the relocation, it said.
As many as 750 jobs will move from Massachusetts, Connecticut and Missouri to Maryville, Tennessee, by the summer of 2023, according to Smith & Wesson.
Good for S&W. No sense in staying where you aren't wanted. I am sure Tennessee will appreciate the high paying jobs.

This is long overdue. Taxachusetts has been biting the hand that feeds it for waaaay too long. Lower taxes, nicer people, better weather, tastier food - what’s not to like?

I really doubt the decision to leave was difficult. They have to be thrilled to get away from those oppressive taxes and regulations. They are going to make a whole lot of money now.

Fantastic. The lefty idiots in Mass hate guns. I predict that less than 10% of the workers will move to Tennessee.
Massachusetts folks largely think that Tenn is entirely populated by low grade morons with no teeth and a third grade education and couldn't imagine living there.
S&W will find a fine skilled work force that loves their products and will be thrilled to be making them. Lower taxes, lowers land costs, lower heating costs, lower wage costs and perhaps a chance to dump the union.
Great news.

Beretta moved out of Maryland because of Maryland's sheity gun laws and went to Tennessee.
Took a lot of good jobs with them too.

Always liked their revolvers, and was broken hearted when they buckled under to the Klinton cabal. I quit buying S&W guns for a while and was ashamed to be seen with them. Now things are better.
This will be a good move. Massachusetts was once a great American state, but no more. As long as the employees lose the Mass. accent and attitude, they'll find Tennessee a friendly and welcoming place.

I'm 4th generation Assachusetts. My people came here in the late 1800s. My great grandmother was Alexander Graham bell's house keeper. My grandfather was Calvin Coolidge's grocer and provided the thanksgiving turkeys for the white house. We go way back.
I say GOOD FOR SMITH AND WESSON! they were never appreciated here in Assachusetts. We didn't deserve them. Tennessee God bless you, treat them well!

Much happier for this move to TN than Ford's EV factory coming in by Memphis. Jobs are great, but you've got to have a marketable product! I don't know anyone with an EV on their wish list.

Tip of the iceberg here. What’s below the radar and not covered are the thousands of small businesses moving to friendlier states. It’s just good business sense to go for lower taxes and a state that welcomes you. The blue states are running off their tax base. No worry though, Biden will send them a couple of billion of red state tax money to rescue them.

FTA: "Massachusetts in 2004 banned the purchase of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines." That ban was pushed through by none other than Republican Mitt "Pierre Delecto" Romney, who was then governor of mAssachusetts, and now for some reason a US senator from Utah.

Good move by Smith and Wesson. I hope all gun manufacturing leaves the Northeast. Poster 14 mentioned thousands of small businesses leaving high tax states and I suppose many support industries will follow S & W to Tennessee. That happened when firearms accessory manufacturer Magpul was driven out of Colorado. When asked about these job losses, odious former governor Hickenlooper talked about good paying green jobs coming to Colorado.

Yes, #17, in CW1.0 the north had all the gun manufacturing, and it was a real problem. It'll be different if they do it again.

Any industry that has any part of guns or ammunition that is still located in a Demon-Rat run state is not showing good business sense.
Even if you have been located in that state for 150 years, and feel like you have tradition and history there, you are now in massively hostile territory and need to relocate to a red state immediately!!!!!

Colt is still in Hartford, Conn. But, they were recently bought out by CZ Arms. CZ USA is located in Kansas City, Kansas (not KC, Missouri across the river) and I know several top people including the president personally.
I would hope that they move Colt out of the NE, too. Kansas for Colt would be good.

We visited eastern TN for the first time last week, continuing our research for a retirement destination in a free state. Beautiful scenery, friendly people, unashamed conservatism. It was refreshing! Good for S&W! Next stop in our research...SC.

There is a price to be paid for being greedy, liberal and otherwise stupid. Blue states apparently must learn their lessons the hard way. Hopefully the pandemic will hurry things along.

Massachusetts wants to make production of semiautomatic pistols and rifles--representing 60% of their profit-- illegal, which leaves their revolvers as the only guns they're allowed to make. So they're moving to Maryville, Tennessee, between Knoxville and the Great Smoky Mountains NP. Kimber Arms of Yonkers, NY recently announced their move to Troy, Alabama. One does not need to wonder why.
