The federal minimum wage in the U.S. has remained glued at $7.25 an hour for the last 12 years, the longest stretch without a boost since it was first adopted in 1938. Yet there's another revealing figure that underscores how the minimum wage — created by Congress after the Great Depression as a way to ensure that Americans were fairly paid for their labor — has failed to keep up with the times. Even as workers have been more industrious — helping drive corporate profits, the stock market and CEO compensation to record heights — their pay has flatlined, or even declined when factoring

Back in 58 I worked in a super market bagging groceries for 15 cents an hour eventually working my way up to stocker unloading semis and filling the shelves at a $1.35 an hour. I was in hog heaven. Back then our money was actually worth something so you needed a whole lot less of it to get by. Of course back then we didn’t have a government that paid you not to work.

Sure... As long as you're willing to pay 12.50 cents for a hamburger... Want fries with that? That'll be another 9.25 cents... so sure.

Minimum wage is what it has ALWAYS been...$0.00.
IF coins were still made from Silver, REAL silver, like they were "back then", $7.25 would equal over $100hr.

Went stop there? Let’s set the minimum wage at $1000 per hour! Everyone will be rich… /S of course!

With inflation under the Bidem regime, $26 will soon be worth less than the minimum wage is now. Not US dollars but Zimbabwe dollars.

This is nonsense. The "economy's productivity" is not the basis upon which we set wages.
Stop the government from over spending and printing fake money and inflation will drop. That's why a dollar doesn't go as far.
Put Joe and the DNC in diapers and stop the ridiculous spending and it'll be ok. No need for a minimum wage.

How about there be no minimum or maximum wage and let the market determine who gets paid how much for what work they do. Minimum wages are Marxist socialism.

Why not make everything free? Then there is no need for wages. You want something, put in the work. Makes as much sense than a set minimum wage.

Absolutely nuts. Those fast food workers can't even get simple hamburger order correct.
Try ordering a plain burger with just pickles.
Try ordering a taco bell chicken bowl without celery.
Try ordering a Chipolte with extra rice.
Try ordering a cola drink with a full glass of ice.
Try ordering a MacDonalds sausage biscuit without cheese.
Try ordering fries without salt.
They're not worth $1 per hour.

So Picchi, what level should revenue be set at? How much should owners and managers be paid? Should customers be allowed in the store if they are not vaccinated? Should everyone have health insurance? How many days off for maternity leave? Should men get maternity leave? Since your business is unlikely to be profitable, should you get a government subsidy?

This is a 'like' for OP's remark. It just doesn't make sense, not everyone is even worth the minimum wage.

If poll appears in the main stream media, in this case CBS News, to bolster the trend toward socialism, increasing the minimu wage or some-such, I assume the poll to be a lie. "Polls" are generally conceived around a conference table by suits in Manhatten. A poll to push a certain agenda is needed and...viola...the 6:30 'news' reports the findings. The suits head for their limos...mission accomplished. Folks, the MSM pushes a lie and the low information voter, Democrats and RINO supporters gobble it up.

Minimum wage is the marketable value of the goods or services that you can provide. In the case of most leftslobs, that value is zero.

Do away with minimum wage and SS and FICA tax withholdings (i.e. pay people in cash with no extra paper work - like illegal aliens) and watch unemployment go to nearly 0%.

There should not be a minimum wage set by the government. It should be based on supply and demand. The goverment-set minimum wage has probably held wages back. Basically, the government said this is all you have to pay entry-level people and that's what companies did.

Why not $100 and hour? How about $1000 and hour? You know, since the Fed is floating trillions of dollars of digital currency to the banks and Wall Street, why the hell not?

So, who really benefits from an increase in the minimum wage to $25? Suppose someone started a few years ago when the minimum was $5 and over time their salary increased, due to their hard work and profivciency, to $25. Along comes the $25 new wage edict and the worker is back at earning minimum wage. The worker was already earning 400% more than minimum wage before the edict so the worker has taken a giant step backward. To keep the existing worker happy at their job, the employer needs to increase their salary to keep in line with the huge increase in minimum wage. Now imagine what happens with all the other workers that will demand corresponding salary increases to keep ahead of the new minimum wage. Employers will require huge price increases for products and services. Government will get a huge income tax windfall. Unions will demand massive increases in dues. The losers? Look in the mirror.

CBS is counting on the dullards to believe that their increased wages will be deducted from the Executive Team's compensation, not higher prices for everything.
We are a nation of fools.

I suggest a test. CBS and its affiliates (as well as "contractors" controlled by CBS) should have a $26 minimum wage. Let's see if it works. Oh yeah, and no passing through the higher costs to your customers.

Since the feds are determined to change us to a socialist state and give away our tax dollars to everyone who doesn't want to work, who needs workers, anyway? Go in to a fast food place and there will only be one worker, and all the rest robots. Can't afford to hire any more.

A 25 minimum wage would devastate the middle class. Effectively making half the population borderline poor. If your wages are 26 per hour, it won't be doubled if minimum wage is doubled.
