The electric Ford F-150 Lightning is being revealed in full tomorrow after years of hype, even though it made a surprise appearance today. The battery-powered pickup will be one of the automaker's most important models ever, and it signals the brand's commitment to EVs by completely transforming the country's best-selling vehicle, full stop. U.S. President Joe Biden toured Ford's Rouge Electric Vehicle plant on Tuesday to get a better understanding of the company's approach to zero-emission cars and trucks, unmasking the F-150 Lightning in the process.  CORRECTIONS*

Gotta want about 5 of them on my ranch. That diesel's getting expensive these days. and the extra weight will give them more traction in the mud. U kidding me Ford ? The price of used 6 cylinder pickups just doubled.

Folks will rail on about stupid it is and it'll never be viable. But, it's still a free country and if some one wants to throw down cash on one, more power to her. These trucks aren't any more a "threat" than any other market choice. I can remember people squawking about stinky diesels in cars not long ago. Market forces will decide.

I don't understand the interest in vehicles that take so long to "fill up" (charge), and that have questionable cold weather efficiency. Just hope you don't run out of charge before you get home or you have a long wait before you get back on the road again.

To me, a truck is a working tool that goes off road, crosses streams, hauls loads and gets dinged as it works - a 5.5' bed? Low ground clearance? I'll keep fixing my 22 year old manual transmission 4wd Silverado and get the job done. I have to wonder about what this means for Shelby? At 9000 plus pounds, how long will a set of tires last, and what do they cost? What is the 5 year cost of ownership of this vehicle? Where do you park a 9000 pound vehicle?

Does the government want to hold the mortgage for these trucks? Only drug dealers and crooked politicians can afford an EV and the battery to go with it and the charging apparatus to go with it, plus any and all adapters to go along with those should you travel beyond your regular charging stations. The biggest drawback after the price is the mattert of where the electricity will come from. Fossil fuel, as any idiot can explain.

Except for the city cowboys who want to look cool, most folks I know have trucks as WORK vehicles. Electric batteries just won't cut it. Also, do some research on the costs and economic impact of manufacturing those batteries. The manufacture of these batteries is more hazardous to the environment than gas engines. DUMB!

I don't even buy an electric lawnmower or weed wacker because I get tired of messing with batteries. They won't hold a charge. Take too long to charge. Cost way too much. Also have two gas mowers and gave up on them because the carburators always need maintenance. Nope, I'll just deal with dragging around an electric cord and know it will always start when I want, it keeps running, and when I unplug it there's nothing left to do. If these idiots are successful in forcing electric vehicles on all of us, where do they imagine we are going to find all the electricity to charge them? From windmills and solar panels? What do we do out in the sticks or in the winter when the sun don't shine? Freeze to death in our electric vehicle, that doesn't generate enough heat to run a heater when we drive through a storm? All these geniuses pushing this stuff back in D.C. and the big cities take cabs, limousines, jet planes everywhere. They don't have a clue about working trucks, the open roads and long distances of the West, and how real working Americans live.

America does not have nearly enough electric power plants to power millions of electric vehicles. Here we see the government fouling the landscape with thousands of windmills and solar farms which are all inefficient and dependent of wind and sun. If we are to run millions of EVs, we need to undertake a crash program of nuclear electrical generation. and rid ourselves of this intermittent energy, which our cannot run on. Otherwise, the much greater demand for power will lead to brownouts and blackouts.

I’m wondering (1) how long you have to plug it in to recharge the battery; (2) what will that do to monthly electric Bill; and (3) will a special outlet need to be installed or will a 110 do, or 220? That’s certainly heavier then a 2-ton truck, what will that extra weight do to roads (infrastructure)?

#26, if you don't use ethanol-gas in your small engines, the carbs will last for decades. If you leave gasoline with ethanol over the winter, the ethanol attracts water from the air, causes severe corrosion in your carb. I have cleaned and fixed carbs many, many times before I figured this out. Now we ONLY purchase ethanol-free fuel for all our mowers, power washer, weed whacker, etc and never a problem. It's another government "improvement" wrecking your stuff. Find a station selling ethanol-free gas, and make sure your small engines never see anything but that and you'll do OK with small gas engines, as everyone did for decades and decades before they started ruining the gasoline by putting 'corn squeezins' into it.

Range typically occupies an outsized chunk of the conversation on any new EV. But, in the case of the F-150 Lightning, which has the bestselling pickup's usual healthy scoop of towing and hauling capabilities, things get more complicated. Ford is claiming that the range figures for its electric pickup will come in at 230 miles and 300 miles, depending on whether the standard-range (which we estimate can hold 115.0 kWh) or extended-range battery pack (150.0 kWh, same caveat) is beneath the bed. Those are EPA predictions, specifically EPA combined figures, in lightly loaded conditions.
