WASHINGTON — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order Monday that immediately suspends all outstanding local Covid-19 emergency orders and related public health restrictions.
"The fact is, we are no longer in a state of emergency," DeSantis said during a news conference. He acknowledged that Florida was still not done with its fight against the coronavirus but reiterated the nation's decline in Covid-19 cases and deaths.
"I think that's the evidence-based thing to do," DeSantis said, adding that asking vaccinated individuals to continue to wear masks would undermine confidence in the coronavirus vaccines.
Private businesses can still require

This part should be undone, seeing how little leeway businesses have in other regards: "Private businesses can still require masks and enforce social distancing and other protective measures." Shirts and shoes, sure, that's a sanitary measure. Proper attire in a nice venue? Likewise. Masks serve no protective function and should be at the discretion of the wearer, as with a burqua, which a public business also cannot require as a condition for entry to the store.

"Florida has reported the third-most Covid-19 cases in the U.S. at more than 2.2 million since the beginning of the pandemic and the fourth-highest death toll at more than 35,000 fatalities, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University." It's amazing how CNBC choose statistics to slam Florida. From Statista five minutes ago, Florida is also 20th in deaths/100,000. It's also the fourth most populace state. As for private businesses having their own mask rules, I don't have a problem with that as I have a choice where I go.

Let's see what the Big Box stores, Disney, and the Sporting Venues do before we declare victory. I still have the utmost trust and respect for Gov. DeSantis, but in order for a lifting of restrictions to have meaning, it must be lifted for all. The wearing of masks etc., should always been a matter of choice, not Government fiat.

Number 3 Florida is also filled with old at risk, people.
Lots of them.
Florida is where people go to keep warm in their old age and wait for God to call their number.

Excellent. Our restaurants are free to do as they please, and no masks required any more in my eastern KS county. Of course, the idiot Dem governor hasn't taken off her "orders", just the county commissioners no longer going along.

My position is a store has to ask me to put on a mask, and if they do, I turn around and leave. Business out the door. So far, no one seems invested enough to care. I will say it's probably still 10:1 mask, no mask here in my little SC town. Whatever's in the water in Florida, I hope it washes upstream to SC.

I have been vaccinated for polio, mumps, measles, rubella, hepatitis, malaria and probably other diseases I have forgotten. I have never worn a mask to protect myself from contracting or spreading any of them. I am now vaccinated for Covid 19. Is there some undisclosed reason I should not trust it? If so, the mask will not protect me any more than it has protected millions of people who wore masks and still caught the virus.

#7 it’s exactly the same here in our northern Colorado county! As soon as our idiot Dem Governor said each county can do as they wish, our RED county, within hours, said masks are not required, and businesses have the choice to require them or not.
