The U.S. Capitol Police officer who shot dead an Air Force veteran during the tumultuous events on Jan. 6 will not be charged, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Wednesday. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division decided jointly not to pursue charges against the officer. The decision came after a “thorough investigation” into the shooting of Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old who joined others in storming the U.S. Capitol in Washington during a joint session of Congress in January. Babbitt was shot while trying to climb through a broken window into the Speaker’s Lobby, adjacent to the House chamber.

The White House Friday reversed course on refugee admissions, after an earlier announcement maintaining a controversial Trump-era refugee cap was met with disdain by Democrats and immigration activists.
Following a day of blowback from Democrats, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced Biden would set a new, higher ceiling in May after initially saying it would keep the current 15,000 limit.
The initial decision had led to widespread complaints from Democratic lawmakers and groups representing refugees, who had already been urging Biden to lift the ceiling put in place by former President Trump.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who came to the United States as a refugee, called it "shameful."
A group of Democrats on Thursday unveiled their bill to expand the Supreme Court, but party leaders showed little support and Republicans assailed the proposal as radical.
The “Judiciary Act of 2021” would add four seats to the nation’s top court, effectively flipping the balance from 6–3 in favor of conservative-appointed justices to 7–6 in the opposite direction.
The rationale fueling the proposal is that Republicans confirmed Justice Amy Coney Barrett after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died last year. The GOP broke no rules or laws, but some Democrats were bitter that they did not hold the seat open for whoever won the 2020 election.
A young woman was collecting data at a local Chinese-language Epoch Times newspaper vending box in Los Angeles County, California, on April 12, claiming that it was being done at the direction of the “Chinese consulate,” a witness reported.
The witness, surnamed Xue, immigrated to the United States over 30 years ago and lives in Arcadia, a Los Angeles city with a large Chinese immigrant population. She has been reading the paper for 10 years.
Xue went to buy a copy of the Chinese-language Epoch Times in the newspaper box outside a post office on Wheeler Street in the morning of April 12.
People who have received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine are “likely” to need a third dose sometime within a year after being fully vaccinated.
“A likely scenario is that there will be likely a need for a third dose, somewhere between six and 12 months and then from there, there will be an annual revaccination,” CEO Albert Bourla said during an online event on April 15.
“But all of that needs to be confirmed. And again, the variants will play a key role,” he said. “We need to see what would be the sequence, and for how often we need to do that, that remains to be seen.”

CBS News deceptively cropped body camera footage that showed a 13-year-old boy holding a gun before he was fatally shot by Chicago police in March.
A law enforcement officer fatally shot Adam Toledo during an encounter in response to gunshots heard on a police scanner. Police said Toledo ignored “verbal directions, fled, used significant force, and was armed with a semiautomatic pistol,” which is why the officer fired.
Body cam footage released this week appears to show Toledo holding a weapon moments before he was shot, but CBS News posted a clip to its website and Twitter page that cropped out the footage showing the teen’s alleged firearm.

An NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll released Thursday found that a majority of Americans oppose woke corporations influencing everyday life.
The poll asked registered voters if they support or oppose American companies using their public role, position, or events to influence political, cultural, or social change. The findings show that over half (58 percent) oppose any type of corporation using its power to influence any type of political, cultural, or social change across the country. They also show that 35 percent did support the efforts by woke corporations, while seven percent were unsure how to answer.

An elderly Mexican-American woman was badly beaten by a racist bus passenger who mistook her for an Asian-American, the victim's son said. The 70-year-old victim, named only as Becky by her son Pete, suffered a concussion, a broken nose, swollen eyes and had her hair pulled out last Friday. The most glaring example involves Biden’s fact-challenged tirade against Georgia’s new voting law. At his first and only press conference, Biden declared the state’s efforts to protect against voter fraud were worse than Jim Crow, “un-American,” “sick,” and “despicable.” (This was the same press conference where moments later Biden bragged about how much time he’s spent with China’s genocidal communist dictator before calling him “a smart, smart guy.”)

WEST YELLOWSTONE — A person is recovering at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after being attacked by a grizzly bear Thursday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to an area near Bakers Hole Campground around 3:45 p.m., according to a Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office news release. They searched for 50 minutes before finding the injured person, who had significant scalp and facial injuries. Gallatin County Sheriff Search & Rescue were called to respond on snowmobile with a rescue toboggan. The victim was loaded onto the toboggan and taken to a nearby ambulance. Hebgen Basin Fire Department EMS crews then drove the patient to EIRMC.

According to one insider, that’s exactly the case for at least one major studio. Public support for marijuana legalization has reached a new high. According to pollsters at Quinnipiac University, 69 percent of all Americans and clear majorities in every demographic group now favor the legalization of marijuana. That's up from 51 percent of Americans who said they favored legalization in 2012, the first year Quinnipiac included questions about marijuana in their national surveys, and up from 60 percent who backed legalization in 2019. Anybody who’s taking Dr. Anthony Fauci seriously probably needs to stop doing so. He endlessly moves the goalposts to maintain his unlimited power over the American people, something Democrats support. That’s why, on Thursday, during House testimony, Rep. Maxine Watters (who is a low-rent harridan) tried to shut down Rep. Jim Jordan’s efforts to get Fauci to say when enough Americans will be vaccinated so that COVID restrictions can end.
The past year has shown that Fauci either has no idea what he’s talking about or is trying to advance an agenda that invariably has to do with maintaining the 2020 status quo of lockdowns, isolation, and masks.

Common sense and their two good eyes should have told anyone that Ashli was not trying to crawl through the uppermost part of a partially broken glass pane in that doorway. The jagged lower glass was still fixed. Had she been through the broken pane when shot she’d have fallen on that lower jagged glass. A little woman, she was boosted on the back of a man. Early on a witness said she wanted to poke her cell phone/camera through the broken-out portion of the pane. That account strangely disappeared. Her family needs to file a civil suit.
