Love them or hate them, electric vehicles (EVs) are in our future. If you doubt that, look at signs. Car companies around the world are in a mad rush to pivot to EV manufacturing. Some examples follow.
"Since March 2019, General Motors has committed to invest more than $4.5 billion in three U.S. manufacturing sites to prepare for EV-related production. The company announced it plans to release at least 20 new electric vehicles globally by 2023." This includes a monstrous Hummer
which GM is repositioning as a pickup truck to compete directly against Tesla.

Your vivid futuristic scenario is frightening to me OP, but the ultimate goal of those who would grind off all our edges until we are all little round gumballs. Our outer shells may be different colors but inside we'll all be filled with the exact same goo. So easy to control for a penny each.

There is a commercial talking how it only takes 2 hours to charge their car, and then they travel 500 miles.
Actually it should be on 250 miles since 500 would be round trip. Also your neighbor would have left for work 2 hours ago in their gas fueled car while you are still waiting.
We are going backwards folks. Serfdom indeed. Serfs could never travel far from where they lived. Its just another form of government control. All in the name of saving the planet. Just like how CV19 lockdowns are in the name of public safety.

OP is spot on. Frankly the elite rulers would be happier if the EVs had the range of a golf cart. We'd all board public transportation to work, then come home and stay put in our gulag. The Telescreen would give us all the information we need.

Control people's movements and you control them. AOC admitted it awhile ago and good luck charging with rolling blackouts.

So, the cool kids believe that the future of personal transportation is "coal-powered cars"?
I understand them. They used to copy my homework for Math.

If Biden gets away with his fraud, he will surely ban the sale of new gasoline & diesel powered cars and trucks by 2035, copying the rules of California, Canada and the UK. To prevent the use of existing gas &:diesel vehicles, the sale of gas and diesel fuels would have to be banned by 2040 so that only EVs are available. And if new cars and trucks that burn petroleum can’t be sold, the prohibition would surely have to expand to include new boats, planes, lawnmowers, snowblowers and more. Only a 78 year old leftist suffering from dementia would impose such a prohibition, and that is what Biden is. May Trump’s legal team stave off this nightmare.

People better find out how much a new battery costs, or trade the vehicle off before the warranty runs out! Also, when their electric bill goes up and they don't understand why, they should put a separate meter on their charger.
Wasn't electricity for recharging supposed to be free? Supplied by windmills and solar panels? Not to mention all those ''free'' charging stations that were supposed to be provided?

Hopefully those EVs are made of wood and drive on cobblestone highways since plastic and asphalt are made from oil by-products.

I'll keep my 250,000+ mile 2001 Tahoe and let someone else buy the golf carts.

There will be a real future for EVs only when some sort of breakthrough in battery or electrical storage comes about. When an EV has the range of a fossil fuel-powered vehicle and can be fully charged in 15-20 minutes. That will probably happen but it seems to be decades away. In the meantime, oil is cheap and plentiful and the US is now energy independent, Independent, that is until the left destroys the industry and the country along with it.

Well, Almost.Their goal is to elimanate car ownership entirely. You get up. You get dressed. You go outside. Along the street there are identical graffiti covered pods. You wave your credit card implant at the sensor location on the pod and it asks where you want to go. If you have enough credits, it unlocks, you enter, and it take you to your destination. Unless you want to go to the "Trump Rally". Then, suddenly, your Black MasterCard doesn't have enough credits. Or, you're a Second Amendment activist. Or you've posted Conservative articles online. Then, mysteriously, you cannot get to work. Or to the grocery. That's the future they have planned for you. They control where you live, whether you earn, whether you eat, by controlling transportation. If you let them get away with it, you get what you deserve.
