The target of Democrat zealots in the House of Representatives lead by Speaker Pelosi and Adam Schiff is to impeach and remove President Donald Trump. Sadly for him the person they have a much higher probability of removing from his lofty perch is Chief Justice John Roberts. The famous cliché; the law of unintended consequences is fast approaching. (Snip) Madam Speaker are you prepared to see Chief Justice Roberts step aside to become just an associate Justice while a new Chief Justice is selected and given the oath of office?

I hope someone posts an article which was posted on Gateway Pundit last nite at 9:18 p.m. The headline says:
"GOP Leader Points to Committee Rule that Must Allow Republicans Day to Call Witnesses"
(I thought I would post it here because maybe a lot of people will read this article.)

Looks sort of like "check," as in Chess next move is PDJT's and it will be "checkmate."

Roberts is a Democrat weasel. Thanks for nothing GW. Roberts speaks frequently about the court not being left or right, but he hasn't said a word about the FISA court abuse for which he is responsible, another act of weaseling, and winnowing. Roberts has the eyes of a weasel. Shiff and Pelosi the eyes of a crazy person. The eyes are indeed the window to what is inside. In these cases, nothing but rot, corruption, and deviousness.

As you people know, I hold Chief Judas John Roberts in low regard (to say the least) but I can't blame him for the ineptitude or dishonesty of FISA Court judges. As Chief Justice, what could he have been expected to know about filings before a FISA court judge??
Calling him as a fact witness would be a cheap trick worthy of Schiff Head, not Mitch McConnell.

It’s too bad that Robert Bork is no longer with us. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the teeth for the left?

Forgot to reply to #3. Very interesting! Hunter Biden! Joe Biden! Hillary Clinton! Eric CIAramella! The one problem I see is that the enemedia will decide not to cover hearings on the day that Republicans call in their own.

Actually, I would prefer to see Amy Barrett get the nod. That would produce real leftist hair burning and fireworks.Kavanaugh is fine where he is.

Unfortunately for the article's thesis, members of the Supreme Court are not bound by the ABA Code of Judicial Conduct, just the inferior federal courts (somewhat).

Yeah, let's take this moral code stuff to the Bar or the Supreme Court...we'll show Roberts and Schiff we're not fooling around anymore. Mitch isn't going to. Neither will Trump for the simple reason it isn't going to happen anyways. See what the polls are saying...and right now it's not good for the impeachment crowd and growing worse.
If Roberts was indeed disqualified, the ranking justices in terms of seniority are Clarence Thomas, then Ginsberg.

#6, I may be wrong but it is my understanding that Chief Justice John Roberts is tasked as overseer of the FISC. He is responsible for what goes on in that secretive court. Therefore, I would assume that he had a proper handle on what was happening there.

But you know what they say about assumptions, # 15.
This is an interesting thought exercise, but nothing is likely to come of it.

#14, Seniority has nothing to do with it. Roberts was a Bush appointment. Thomas and Ginsburg have been around a lot longer than that.

Rules mean nothing to the Demonrats, they will ignore it, and I wonder if Roberts will ignore it, too.

FAR: ''As Chief Justice, what could he have been expected to know about filings before a FISA court judge??''
He may, or may not, have known at the time, although he should have. He is in charge. Even so, he knows now. What has he done about it? Has he caused the whole scam to be stopped because of it? He has done nothing to expose the problem, so he is complicit!

What a gift from heaven. I think Roberts should resign rather than be demoted. Then President Trump could nominate Amy Barrett the first female Chief Justice and still have time to replace FCA member Ginsberg. The left will destroy themselves if Trump gets 2 more appointments.
Btw, FCA stand for Future Cadavers of America.

It would be a kick to see Ginsburg replace Roberts as Chief Justice. Then the world could see she is physically incapable of performing her duties during the impeachment trial.

#17 - The position of Chief Justice is a specific appointment that supersedes seniority. You may remember that Roberts was initially nominated for an associate chair to replace O'Connor, and then Rehnquist died. His nomination was upgraded, and Alito nominated to replace O'Connor.
Seeing that Presidential impeachment is the order of the day, and the Constitution's specificity, it is not possible for the Senate to itself appoint a "special Chief Justice" to preside, nor will it be possible for the accused, i.e. the President, to offer such an appointment unless universally accepted. Seniority has always been the governing "rule", and would likely be acceptable, if not distasteful, to the parties involved. Anything else would ignite a crisis. It's an interesting conundrum. No trial; no conviction or acquittal.

I don’t think that the Supreme Court can decide who the Chief Justice will be. Since there is no provision in the US Constitution for an “acting” Chief Justice, if Roberts stepped down as Chief Justice, there would actually have to be a vacancy on the court for him to move into an Associate Justice position or seat. But if there is not an Associate Justice position on the court open for Roberts to take, he would have to leave the court. If that were to happen, it would be up to the President to nominate a new Chief Justice and for the US Senate to confirm that person. The House of Representatives would have nothing to do with that process beyond bloviating. All that could well take until June to seat a new Chief Justice with a Senate trial going on well into the run up to the 2020 election.

And wouldn't it be just the most delicious irony for that new presiding Chief Justice to be Judge Kavanaugh?
