The Trump administration on Monday approved the largest solar installation in U.S. history, giving its blessing to a Berkshire Hathaway Inc. subsidiary’s 690-megawatt project just north of Las Vegas.
When finished, NV Energy’s estimated $1 billion Gemini Solar Project is set to become the eighth-largest solar power facility in the world, spanning some 7,100 acres (2873 hectares) of federal land and generating enough electricity to power 260,000 homes in the region. The current record for a solar plant is 579 megawatts.

Mass scale solar is a scam. It needs an equal quantity of conventional power to keep things going when it is dark...like about half the time.
Sorry to see them supporting this.

OK, partial battery system, but not equal to the capacity of the system, so just and "extender" at huge cost, power for a few hours after the sun is gone.
And how much of this white elephant will be paid for by federal taxpayers being fleeced for this instead of a dramatically cheaper conventional powerplant?

Besides the tortoise the solar panels will fry quite a few birds too. And #1's comment is right on. I thought Trump would know better.

#3,no, this kind of solar does not fry birds.
That is the solar power tower type, exceptionally rare, where there is a field of tracking mirrors which focus the sun on a central tower, which makes steam to run steam turbines. They concentrate hundreds of the images of the sun from hundreds of mirrors on the same area, so hundreds of times hotter than one sun image. Similar in concept (but done differently) from burning a leaf with a magnifying glass in the sun.
These are just the normal photovoltaic solar panels, get no hotter than a dark car in the sun, no way to fry birds any more than them landing on a black road or car.

There goes another massive migratory bird killing. Has PT learned nothing from Europe who has already recognized wind/solar as the biggest scam of the world and a money-sucking loser pie in the sky?
It looks like the eco-terrorists are okay with this so long as a fawning and campaign donor demonrat is for it (Buffett).

The typical gas fired power plant produces 600-700 MW of power and costs 5.3 millilion dollar and takes up a couple acres of land. This solar is a billion dollars and takes 7000 acres of land. This is the definition of insanity!!!!! What a waste of land and money.

Not that I plan to do it but I'll bet if you wast…..er took the time to look it up, there is still 'money' laying around that is left over from the Obama regime to at least provide a huge tax break for Buffett. Ask T. Boone Pickett about this...…..

And what would the cost of a conventional power station be? Probably less than half, and it would produce power 24 hours a day, rain or shine.

I could be worse. Be glad this isn't another wind farm with the self destructing fire traps that can't turn if the wind is too light or if the wind is too strong.

But wait! "...disruptions during Gemini’s construction could imperil the Mojave desert tortoise, a reptile that is protected as a 'threatened' animal under the Endangered Species Act." Sit back and watch the circular firing squad. It's all Trump's fault, either way.
